Chapter 1425: Chapter 688: Picking Up a Treasure, So Tiring!_2

"It could also be a passageway for someone fleeing." Sean Knight said with a smile, "Be careful."

"Got it." The team member who arrived at the cave entrance first said cautiously while peering down, "It’s kind of like the tunnels at our border defense post, but this one is too stingy."

Sean Knight chuckled, thinking to himself, how could it be the same?

However, he didn’t say much more, and the team member simply sighed with that single remark. After all, some things shouldn’t be discussed in too much detail since they are classified.

Three team members went down, with Elijah Hastings and another team member above to assist, while other team members spread out around the area as a guard.

"Boss, Captain Hastings, there’s something down here!"

"Can you haul it up?" Elijah Hastings shouted down into the cave.

"Yes, but we need someone to catch..."

Hearing the team member below, Elijah Hastings immediately motioned with his hand, and three of the alert team members ran over.

"Get the rope, get ready to hoist the thing up!"

The three team members quickly took out ropes from their backpacks, connected them with carabiners, and then let them down.

Soon, the team member below bent over, dragging something to just beneath the cave entrance, then expertly secured the object with the rope, tied it properly, made sure it was balanced, and then shouted:

"Pull!"

The team members above started to haul on the rope with effort. The team member below was steadying the object, aiming to keep it balanced.

Sean Knight and Elijah Hastings could already see that the object being pulled up was a vertically shaped box. Since it would get stuck if pulled sideways, the team members immediately unfastened the rope after getting the vertical box up and then let it back down.

The spare team members dragged the box to the side, and Elijah Hastings came over to take a look, laughing as he said:

"This box is old—but it’s still intact, not bad at all."

"Open it up," Sean Knight said. "Let’s see what’s inside."

Viola also stood by, curious to watch.

The box was initially open. To facilitate lifting it earlier, the team members had tied it with a rope. Now, as the team members untied the rope, old-fashioned muzzle-loading firearms were revealed.

The gun barrels were rusted, and the condition wasn’t very good—after all, in that era, the concept of storage and maintenance couldn’t match up to the standards of World War II.

Elijah Hastings picked up a gun and tried holding it up and then wiped some of the rust off, saying:

"If we find a professional, it’s still possible to repair this. But to be honest, even if it’s restored, it definitely won’t fire anymore. It might even burst the barrel, but it’ll make a fine collector’s item."

This box contained six firearms. They were originally new guns, oiled and kept in sawdust to prevent collision. Unfortunately, since the lid of the box had been open for so long, the grease had dried up and the sawdust had rotted away.

Sean Knight crouched down to rummage through it and found that the guns were all quite similar, so he didn’t bother handling them. He knew there were other items in the tunnel, so he went to the cave entrance to keep looking down.

After a while, the team members sent up more things, this time including gunpowder and the like. This stuff was more troublesome to handle; once it was brought up, Elijah Hastings had the team members place it far away to avoid any fire risk.

"Boss, the tunnel goes deep. We’ll go ahead and take a look," the team member called out from below.

"Wait for us, we’ll come down too," Sean Knight thought for a moment and said, "It’s been a while since I squirmed through a tunnel, starting to miss it."

Hearing his words, other team members laughed.

Sean Knight turned to Viola and said:

"You stay here. The tunnel is damp and dark, and your clothes will definitely get dirty if you go down."

"Okay." Viola had the same idea and nodded, "I’ll take a look at these guns up here—these guns are antiques!"

Sean Knight and two team members jumped down. Once he was down, Elijah Hastings stayed above.

Sean Knight followed the team member ahead, both with flashlights in hand, the tunnel clearly lit in every direction.

After a while, they came across another box, and the team member stopped.

"Carry it, anything you see, haul it up," Sean Knight saw this box contained shells.

The team members in front and behind worked together, the box was a bit heavy, and the wooden material of the box was damp from being stored so long, so they were extra cautious, fearing the box might not hold.

Sean Knight then leaned against the side, waiting for the team members to pass.

"You guys send it up, I’ll keep looking ahead," Sean Knight said, "There should be more in here."

"Then, boss, be careful, and watch your safety," a team member advised before slowly walking back with the box.

Sean Knight moved forward cautiously. The space indeed wasn’t very large, so he had to be mindful of his steps.

Sean Knight, holding his flashlight, felt his way forward, comparing everything with what he had seen in the Sky Eye previously, and soon reached the end of the tunnel.

He remembered that this room contained items that, at the time, were considered quite advanced.

Boxes of weapons were neatly arranged in the space. Sean Knight shone his flashlight on them, feeling a bit sentimental.

These items were big killers back in their day!

Opening a box, he pulled out a flintlock gun, and Sean Knight found that this gun was preserved quite well. It was at least much more advanced than the earlier muzzle-loading firearms.

Beyond firearms, there were bullets. And there were also some cold weapons.

Sean Knight, holding a flintlock gun, activated the Sky Eye again and scanned around, intending to return when he suddenly noticed two dark statues in the corner of the basement.

Double-headed eagles, half a meter tall.

Because they were placed in the corner of the space and blocked by several boxes filled with gunpowder, Sean Knight’s Sky Eye hadn’t noticed them from outside earlier.
