Chapter 1413: Chapter 684: Not Everyone Can Take Advantage! _2
"Yes, yes, yes!" Douglas Cooper burst into laughter as he heard that. That’s exactly the point!
After arranging everything and having food, Douglas took two team members and drove to the city.
Elijah Hastings acted as the overseer at the castle, watching the technicians at work, while Lincoln Harrington organized the nearby patrol forces.
Although the forest was vast, the primary area guarded was still the small lake. After all, that’s where the highest current value was.
To avoid provoking those potentially watching, the team members stopped salvaging in the water. According to Sean Knight’s plan, they’d first encircle the area with iron wire mesh, secure it, and then resume the salvage efforts.
Even though this was private property, from the moment he purchased the castle, everything produced from the nearby land belonged to Sean.
But being a foreigner, he couldn’t withstand jealousy everywhere.
If he really angered the masses, Sean could handle it, but it would be troublesome.
Therefore, the team members patrolled nearby but didn’t go far. They ignored any shadows they saw, only firing warning shots if people tried to wade into the river.
That was comparatively "friendly."
Sean and Viola kept wandering nearby. It wasn’t aimless; Sean, having time on his hands, started picking mushrooms in the forest.
With Sky Eye, knowing which mushrooms were edible and which were poisonous was effortless.
By noon, they had gathered quite a lot. Viola, although living in the small town, rarely participated in such activities, so she was quite happy to do so today, free from worries.
After eating lunch, Douglas called, saying he had picked up the people and was processing the procedures.
Sean and his group planned not to go out in the afternoon, just waiting for the team to arrive.
Unexpectedly, trouble occurred before it was even noon.
The technicians also had their meal at noon. Normally, working meant skipping meals—this was the local rule. However, Sean and his group didn’t have the habit of eating while letting others starve, so they had also prepared food for them.
After eating, Sean and his group were strolling about when suddenly, a large group of people rushed noisily toward the small lake!
Among these people, more than a dozen had guns, and many of the rest were wielding sticks and knives. They had a clear objective: they were headed straight for the lake!
The patrolling team members fired warning shots and quickly reported the situation to Sean.
Sean and his group quickly rushed over—the issue was that those team members didn’t understand Russian, which could easily lead to misunderstandings.
Although the likelihood of misunderstanding was small, Sean was concerned that the aggressive approach of those people might harm his team members, which would escalate the situation.
Wouldn’t he have to flatten those people?
Sean and Viola arrived just in time, as both sides were confronting each other. Any later, and gunfire might have broken out.
The team members were few but well-equipped, with over a dozen automatic rifles, bullets loaded, and no fear visible in their demeanor.
The opposing side had more people, fewer guns, but they were quite forceful, believing themselves to be in the right.
The two groups were essentially speaking different languages. The team members were yelling:
"This is private property, please leave, or we will fire!"
The opponents were also shouting:
"This is our land, Chinese get out! We are here to dig for diamonds!"
All right, Viola heard that. She looked worriedly at Sean, then at the team members, and translated the words to Sean.
"What?" Sean had guessed these people were here for the diamonds but didn’t expect them to be so brazen about it.
"They said that someone found diamonds downstream in the river and confirmed there should be diamonds here. That’s why they came."
"They also said that this land has been theirs for generations, so they want you to leave."
"Generations my foot!" Lincoln Harrington scoffed after hearing this and said, "Originally, this place belonged to the Tatars; then the Russians came and marked it, started collecting taxes, and that’s how Tomsk formed—these people were never the original owners of this land!"
Lincoln disliked these people, so he blatantly mentioned "Russian" outright. Otherwise, he would have been more considerate of Viola.
Viola, standing with Sean at the moment, didn’t take issue with Lincoln’s words and continued translating:
"Some of them are inciting, saying shooting won’t matter because they have more people and aren’t afraid of our team members..."
As Sean listened to Viola’s translation and saw the increasingly restless Russians, he made a quick decision and said to Lincoln:
"Tell our people to fire warning shots now!"
Then he said to Viola:
"Tell those people this is private property. If they don’t retreat after the warning, we will start aiming at people!"
The team members had already started firing warning shots!
Viola shouted loudly toward the people on the other side, but it was chaotic, and her voice wasn’t very loud, so they might not have heard her.
But they could hear the gunshots; the opposition didn’t expect the team members to open fire directly. A young man, somewhat nervously holding a gun, didn’t pay attention to where the gunfire was directed and abruptly started shooting toward Sean’s side!
The bullet hit the ground not far from Sean, startling Viola!
Sean immediately became displeased!
What’s the meaning of this? We fired a warning shot without escalating, and you started shooting first!
"Open fire! Take out a few of those with guns!" Sean yelled to his team members, "Be careful!"
