Chapter 1400: Chapter 680 The Ancient Legend in the Ancient Castle

"The agent said that this is an ancient castle more than three hundred years ago. The original owner once was a relative of Peter the Great and Queen Catherine, but later due to a mistake, was exiled to the Far East and established a castle here," Viola translated for Sean Knight.

The agent was a middle-aged woman, dressed very corporately with a serious expression on her face. Sean guessed she was probably using her seriousness to underscore the castle’s authenticity.

Of course, Sky Eye could see that the castle indeed had a history of two to three hundred centuries, built entirely of stone; its appearance rough, quite in line with the typical Russian temperament.

As for whether it was as splendid as the agent had described it previously was unknown. Moreover, Sean speculated that the so-called relative of Peter the Great might just be a legend.

"Then ask why nobody lived here afterward, turning it into this sorry state," Sean casually remarked while looking at the castle.

Viola didn’t quite understand the term "sorry state" and looked at Sean surprisingly, tilting her head in thought before translating to the agent.

"How did you translate that?" Sean noticed that Viola indeed didn’t quite grasp what the "sorry state" meant, and he asked with a smile.

"I said the castle is very dilapidated," Viola explained earnestly, her seriousness making her appear somewhat adorable.

Sean nodded.

The agent replied, and Viola translated:

"She said because it’s too far from the city, many years ago the descendants of the original owner sold the castle to someone else. The later owner disappeared, and the castle was abandoned, only to be developed recently."

The castle was indeed dilapidated, although the agent, trying to fetch a good price, had all the miscellaneous trees nearby chopped down, the lawn renovated, and even constructed a simple road leading to the interstate highway, but the castle was no longer intact, with some of the stones having collapsed.

Fixing the castle to make it inhabitable would require a large investment.

After all, even the door frames and windows were just empty spaces now, and the renovation costs would be substantial.

"If purchasing the castle, does that include just the castle itself, or also the land around it?" Sean asked, looking around.

"Twenty hectares of land surrounding the castle," the agent answered, "including woodland, grassland, and a small lake."

The environment here was really nice. Sean looked around at the large expanses of birch and conifer forests, not very densely grown, with thick leaves littering the ground, creating a quite scenic view.

However, it also felt truly desolate. On their drive there, there was hardly any habitation within at least a fifty-kilometer radius.

Sean wondered how that so-called relative of Peter the Great ever thought to build such a castle in this remote corner.

"Five kilometers to the southeast of the castle, there’s a military fort," the agent continued, "But that fort is a historic relic and not for sale."

What’s the point of mentioning that then!

Sean couldn’t help but complain.

"...However, it can be rented. The rent is very low," the agent stated matter-of-factly.

"Let’s go in and take a look," Sean said, "Go in and see if it’s worth buying."

Lincoln Harrington followed Sean and Viola into the castle, while Elijah Hastings and Douglas Cooper led team members scouting the surroundings.

"Why do you think the boss is interested in such a rundown place?" Douglas couldn’t help asking Elijah.

"Who knows, maybe the boss thinks there’s something underneath here," Elijah guessed too.

"Might as well find a spot to fence off for hunting," Douglas said, feeling an itch in his hands, "There’s really a lot of wildlife around! Just now on the road, that big deer, I really wanted to shoot it."

"Forget it, just endure for now. If the boss decides to enclose the area, then you can shoot all you want!" Elijah laughed, "After all, there are still people around now; they wouldn’t appreciate it if you started shooting, right?"

Douglas smiled and didn’t speak further.

Sean walked into the castle and noticed that the stone slabs of the floor were filled with grass growing out of the crevices. There were recent signs of attempts to clean it, but evidently, the job was poorly done; the grass roots were tenacious, and new leaves had sprouted again.

The agent continued with a straight face, as if none of this mattered. She began introducing the functions of various rooms inside the castle.

The hall, once used for receiving guests and hosting dance parties; the Dining Hall, Bedroom, Study Room, warehouse, etc.

It must be said, whether in the East or the West, due to either insufficient supplies or human resources, these rooms in ancient residential areas were relatively small. This made Sean, who was used to living in courtyards and big houses, feel that the castle was really stingy!

But considering this place in the Far East where hardly a bird would poop, having built a fairly intact three-story castle out of stone was not bad.

Then he found a surprise for himself.

The castle had a Basement, but the Basement was already empty.

Probably anyone visiting would think of it, that basements were the easiest places to hide things and also the most likely to be searched through.

Sean discovered something on the second floor, on the east side of the castle.

Normally, since there were no halls on the second and third floors, there were many small rooms.

Because there were many rooms, the area was relatively cramped, and nobody would suspect there was anything amiss.

But Sean, who kept his Sky Eye on throughout, noticed that there was a space on the east side of the second floor that should have been a room, was completely sealed within the walls.
