Chapter 137: Chapter 136: Midnight Wolf Attack!
"What a stroke of luck!" someone muttered quietly.
Another enviously asked:
"Where did you find it? Is it far from here?"
"Could this diamond be brought here on purpose for us to see?"
"There’s no need for that."
Brown squeezed through the crowd and stood next to Sean Knight, his eyes filled with a hint of greed when he saw the diamond in his hand.
The broad bean-sized diamond had a faint pink hue. Although not very obvious, Brown, who had seen such things before, naturally knew its value.
"Did you find it in this forest?" Brown now understood a little why Smith highly praised Sean Knight’s good luck.
He really is lucky!
He found a diamond as soon as he arrived!
"Yes."
"Good, take us there first thing tomorrow morning," Brown instructed, then said, "It’s getting late, everyone rest up!"
He turned and left.
Sean Knight was a little puzzled. What did Brown mean? Was he planning to dig for diamonds there, or did he have other intentions?
As people dispersed, some were still discussing whether they should go dig some together tomorrow.
Not all of these treasure hunters are wealthy. They can live off their savings for three years, but what if they don’t make any money in those three years?
Sean Knight also noticed that many of the equipment used by Andrew Petrov and Chelsea’s teams was second-hand.
Although professional, it didn’t appear top-of-the-line.
Early the next morning, after each team finished breakfast and packed up, Brown’s bodyguard came over and called Sean to set off.
Although they were based here, everyone had to bring their own food.
Sean Knight thought Brown was a bit stingy.
As they set off, Sean was surprised to see that people from Andrew Petrov and Chelsea’s teams were also following behind.
Was it Brown’s request, or did these people just want to join and watch the fun?
It was unknown.
After walking no more than a few hundred meters, they found the place where Sean Knight had dug up the diamond.
Looking at the traces of digging, Brown was overjoyed and immediately instructed his bodyguard and the accompanying workers:
"Dig, dig right here!"
Then he pointed at Sean and the others:
"You three groups can set off. Mark the route on the map as you go so we don’t retrace our steps later."
This drove Sean and the others away.
After they left, a person was assigned to each group.
Following Sean was a 27 or 28-year-old young man. He looked like a Latino, with curly hair and a blank expression.
Sean tried to talk to him, but he didn’t respond. So Sean just kept his head down and moved on.
Stopping every now and then, Sean activated his Sky Eye. He walked about two kilometers before discovering traces of artificial digging underground.
It resembled an excavated tunnel. The ground here was slightly lower than the rest, covered in dead branches and leaves. It was clearly abandoned.
Sean followed the shallow ditch, walking about three or four kilometers. He took out a map and understood something.
This was the outermost line on the simple map in his hand. The direction and approximate turns were similar.
But he didn’t understand why someone would dig such a ditch in this jungle.
There was no need for a trench here, right?
He hadn’t found any clues like weapon fragments in the ditch using his Sky Eye either.
But the general direction had been determined. Next, they had to move towards the central area.
After walking a few more kilometers, Sean found a spot with less weeds and stopped.
Seeing that it was almost time, he decided to have lunch.
The man following him noticed his movements, understood his intentions, then walked twenty meters away and made a phone call.
He spoke in a language Sean didn’t understand.
Because others were around, Sean didn’t take out the pots and cook on the spot. Instead, he took out self-heating rice.
Add some water and it heats itself up. Inside, there was rice, vegetables, and meat – the nutrition was definitely enough.
Just the taste wasn’t great.
Thankfully, mixing it with pickles, it was quite flavorful.
The man following behind made a phone call and then took out his own food to eat.
Sean saw that it was just chocolate and compressed biscuits.
He mumbled to himself, Brown really is frugal.
After eating, they buried the garbage and set off again.
They kept walking until it was dark, and Sean didn’t see the second line.
He began to doubt his previous guess again.
However, as night fell, they couldn’t keep moving forward and needed rest.
Sean found a huge tree, climbed it with both hands and feet, and on a branch five or six meters above the ground, which was as thick as a person’s arm, he used a shovel and knife to make a spot where he could sit and rest.
After fixing up the place, Sean sat on the branch and began to eat.
The Latin man saw what Sean was doing and hesitated for a moment.
He originally planned to pitch a tent on the ground and spend the night there.
But seeing Sean doing this, he didn’t know whether he should stay on the ground or not.
For a moment, he looked rather dumbfounded.
Sean wanted to laugh inwardly, but didn’t.
He had thought this guy always had a cold demeanor.
After a while, the man also tried to climb the tree but gave up, pitched his tent under the tree, crawled in, turned on the light, seemed to be recording something, and then began to eat.
After finishing eating, Sean tidied up, tied his backpack, secured himself to the tree, and prepared to sleep.
At midnight, Sean suddenly woke up.
He looked down and saw several pairs of green eyes slowly approaching the tent.
Wolves!
He didn’t know if they were coyotes or prairie wolves.
Sean immediately took out his semi-automatic rifle and started to aim.
He looked down at the tent again. The man inside was snoring quite loudly.
A few wolves had already approached the tent, and one of them started to hook the tent cautiously with its claws.
The sound alerted the man inside, who shouted:
"Who is it?"
The wolves were startled, but they didn’t run far. They circled and one of them began to bite the tent.
"Bang!"
One shot was fired, and one of the wolves jumped but was not hit.
The wolves were frightened, running about ten meters away and watching the tent warily.
The man inside turned up the light, and the wolves retreated a few more meters.
Then a wolf howled in the distance, and more wolves crawled over!
The man inside apparently knew the danger now, shouting loudly, seemingly trying to scare away the wolf pack.
But the wolves were cunning, just circling and not leaving.
Gradually they got closer and closer to the tent.
In the end, two wolves, one from the front and one from the back, pounced on the tent!
With a few swipes, they tore a hole in the tent!
"Bang!"
The man inside shot and wounded a wolf, but the other wolves had already surrounded him!
"Bang bang bang bang!"
A few shots were fired, but the wolves were not injured again. This man’s shooting skills were really average.
Sean sighed from above, it seemed that this guy would end up being wolf food if things continued like this.
He aimed his rifle and fired, "Bang!" One wolf was shot and flung through the air.
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
Following that, five more shots, and five more wolves were shot and sent flying. The other wolves already knew the enemy was in the tree but could do nothing, running away into the distance.
"Don’t move around, turn off the light," Sean shouted, "There are still wolves outside, reload your bullets first."
The man inside responded and began to act.
Both men held on until daybreak, and the wolves had already disappeared.
They were safe now.
