Chapter 136: Chapter 135: The Professional Difference

During the next part of the journey, Sean Knight realized what it meant to say that a thin camel is still bigger than a horse.

Even though Brown was on the verge of bankruptcy, the arrangements along the way were still luxurious.

Sean thought self-mockingly that his own vision and view of things were too small.

At first, when he heard Smith say that Brown was about to go bankrupt, he thought it would be like the poor businessmen with furrowed brows in novels.

But they still lived in villas, flew airplanes, and after landing, a convoy of luxury cars was waiting.

The base was built in a large area of primitive forest.

Driving from the airport to the base, the trees on both sides became dense and the vehicles sparse, until only their convoy remained on the road.

The car drove for a good seven or eight hours before turning off the road and reaching a flat area, where seven or eight tents had already been set up and people were busy working.

After getting out of the car, Sean was assigned to a small tent.

Putting down his backpack, Sean took out a water bottle from his spatial realm and drank a few mouthfuls before eating some food. He was about to go out to the restroom when someone came to call him.

Brown’s tent was in the middle of the base, the largest one, with all the furnishings inside. It didn’t look like they were here for treasure hunting, but more like tourism.

There were also two maids serving.

When Sean entered, Brown was drinking coffee and listening to a report.

He glanced at Sean and waved his hand to dismiss the person giving the report.

Sean arrived first, followed by Andrew Petrov’s group, and finally Chelsea’s group.

"Rest today and start the operation tomorrow," Brown ordered once all three groups were assembled. "Begin the operation tomorrow.

Come on, everyone take out your maps, and I’ll mark our location for you. Swan Lake is nearby, and you can decide on your own routes to search. My people will follow you and report back any developments."

Sean didn’t say anything, while Andrew Petrov asked:

"Do we come back every day, on a regular basis, or only after we find the treasure? If we find it, what happens to the other two groups?"

Even though he had conflicts with Andrew Petrov, Sean had to admit that he was more thoughtful.

After all, he was a professional, and that made a difference.

Brown listened to these questions and turned to look at the others, asking:

"Do you have any questions?"

Chelsea spoke up:

"Mr. Brown mentioned that the treasure is of enormous value and must be quite extensive. If it’s far from the base, how do we transport it?"

Brown looked at Sean.

Sean shook his head. He was a newbie who didn’t know anything, so he might as well hide his ignorance.

Andrew Petrov glanced at Sean with a look of disdain.

Brown said slowly:

"Normally, we return once every three days. Within a few dozen kilometers around here is, to my knowledge, the most likely place where treasures are buried.

So any clues should be nearby. If you look in the wrong place or get lost, I’m not responsible.

If one group finds the treasure, the other two groups will automatically withdraw. I’ll give them a consolation fee of 10,000 US dollars per person and send them away."

The winner takes all, but at least Brown wasn’t too heartless.

After the three groups left the tent, Sean was about to head back when Andrew Petrov’s voice came over:

"Chinese boy, don’t embarrass yourself here! You, an amateur at best, coming here to treasure hunt will only bring disgrace and possibly even put your life at risk! If you leave now, you can at least preserve some dignity!"

Sean looked back at him for a moment before turning away expressionlessly and leaving.

Andrew Petrov was right, Sean couldn’t even be considered an amateur.

But Sean had no intention of leaving, whether Andrew Petrov’s words were genuine concern or just meant to eliminate a competitor.

Back in his tent, Sean put on his gear, sprayed mosquito repellent on himself, and decided to take a walk in the forest.

He had never experienced such a vast primitive forest before.

As he left the tent, he saw Andrew Petrov’s people preparing, Thera sprinkling powder outside the tent, others weeding, and some assembling scattered equipment.

Indeed, they were more professional than he was.

But Sean didn’t feel inferior; everyone had their own strengths!

And his strengths were something they lacked.

Sean glanced around and saw that there was no one outside Chelsea’s tent, and there were faint voices inside, probably having a meeting.

Sean looked at the map in his hand. Even if Mr. Brown had marked the base’s location, it was still very uncertain.

A map with a radius of several kilometers on a small piece of paper, how accurate could that be?

He only knew that he should head west.

Sean took a step westward.

Behind him, he heard mocking laughter from Andrew Petrov’s group.

Sean ignored it, deciding to first check out the forest environment.

As he entered the forest, his vision darkened.

There were a lot of thick leaves on the ground, with dead branches hidden beneath them, making it difficult to walk and occasionally tripping him up.

Fortunately, he had Sky Eye, which he would occasionally activate to see the path ahead.

There weren’t many small shrubs, as many large trees occupied the soil’s nutrients. Unlike rainforests in the south, only some shade-loving grasses could survive beneath such trees.

Occasionally, mushrooms would poke their heads out, and Sean also saw rats scurrying in and out of the leaves.

A wild rabbit hopped up not far away, ran about a dozen meters, and then stopped, turning its head vigilantly to watch Sean.

Sean took his gun out of the spatial realm and aimed at the rabbit, but ultimately lowered the gun.

Firing the gun would not be wise.

The rabbit eventually ran away.

As Sean continued to walk deeper into the forest, he faintly heard the howling of wolves.

Not only was he not afraid, but he even felt a little excited.

This was a real primitive jungle!

With his submachine gun in hand, he was not afraid.

Despite walking until the sun set, he still hadn’t encountered any wild animals, but there was an unexpected find.

With some regret, he finally turned back.

On the way back, he deliberately veered off his original route and activated Sky Eye as he walked. Near a small brook close to the base, he made a surprising discovery.

Several transparent little stones were among the scattered stones beside the brook.

Sean took out a small shovel to dig them out.

They ranged in size from broad beans to soybeans.

Rough diamonds!

Arkansas was famous for its diamonds, and he hadn’t expected to find them here!

Sean scanned his surroundings again and found more, but they were tiny, sesame-sized, so he let them be.

With the rough diamonds in the palm of his hand, Sean happily returned to the base.

"You weren’t eaten by wolves?" Someone from Andrew Petrov’s side mocked, "Looks like you’re pretty lucky."

Chelsea also walked over and said:

"Going into the forest at this time, it’s very risky."

Sean didn’t respond, just smiled and nodded to show he understood her concerns.

"Did you make any discoveries?"

Sean stretched out his hand, showing her the diamonds.

It wasn’t about showing off, but rather appropriately displaying his strength.

Otherwise, he would really be underestimated by these people.

"You found these?" Chelsea exclaimed: "Diamonds?"

"Yes, I found them by the brook."

Chelsea’s exclamation attracted the attention of people from both groups. Apart from Andrew Petrov, everyone flocked to take a look.

Although there were enough diamonds on Earth for everyone to have over a thousand carats, in reality, diamonds, especially large ones, were still valuable items.

Even Mr. Brown was drawn by the commotion to take a curious look.
