Chapter 133: Chapter 132: Channel

Sean Knight wouldn’t consider going back to James, the man was too greedy.

Sean decided to try his luck with Smith.

Even if Smith couldn’t handle these gold coins, he might introduce him to suitable outlets.

These gold coins, along with the gold and silverware, were all in Sean’s spatial realm.

As was the phoebe zhennan wooden box, and everything in it.

Sean was planning on keeping these items as family heirlooms.

At the shopping center, he saw Smith appraising items for a customer at the counter and approached him.

"...This is a jewelry box from just over 20 years ago, not as old as you believe it to be. Trust me, it’s no more than 30 years old at most."

After Smith finished speaking, the customer seemed dubious, but he ultimately asked for a price.

"How much can I sell it for?"

"Since it’s missing a gemstone, it won’t fetch a high price. I’d say around 300 dollars."

The cargo owner contemplated for a bit and finally decided to sell it.

After payment, Smith turned to Sean with a smile.

"Mr. Knight, do you have more goodies?"

The hundred odd Morgan gold coins he’d bought from Sean the previous time had earned him a tidy profit, so he was particularly cordial with Sean.

"I do have good things." Sean took out a pirate gold coin and placed it on the table.

"Hmm?" Smith picked up the coin and studied it closely before his face turned serious.

"Is this a... privately minted pirate gold coin?"

Looking up at Sean, he gave a confirming tone despite asking for a confirmation.

"Yes." Sean was somewhat impressed by Smith. Could he really tell just by looking?

Smith, noticing Sean’s skepticism, laughed and explained,

"There’s a faint salty smell on the gold coin, that’s the most distinctive characteristic. Additionally, though the markings on the coin are vague, they resemble the emblem of a former pirate king. I’ve dealt with similar ones before so I remember."

The coin displayed a dimly imprinted anchor, atop which a curved knife was inserted at an angle of forty-five degrees.

The back side displayed a figure wearing a captain’s hat.

Although it had all necessary elements, the coin was relatively rudimentary.

Though seemingly official, the markings were very crude which made it clear this was not minted at an official mint.

No wonder Smith could identify it immediately.

"How much could one sell for?"

"Although the gold content of this coin isn’t as high as in regular ones, it’s heavier making it more valuable. Some collectors like this kind of coin. Depending on how many you have, if it’s just this one, I’ll give you 1,200 dollars...."

"I have over 2,000."

"What?" Smith exclaimed. "So many? Did you find a pirate treasure?"

"Pretty much." Sean whispered, "I’d appreciate it if you kept this confidential."

"Understood, I got it." Smith held the coin and played around with it for a while before suddenly asking,

"Do you have anything else?"

"Yes."

"Can... can I see?"

Sean nodded and responded,

"I’ll go fetch them from the car—shall we look at them inside?"

"Okay."

Sean turned and walked out. When he came back, he was carrying two bags. He followed Smith into the back room.

Looking at the silver candlestick and golden bowl that Sean pulled out of the bag, Smith picked up the candlestick and began to inspect it closely.

"This should be a household item from a 17th century British noble."

Sean nodded in acknowledgement.

"Do you have a lot more of these?" Smith asked.

"I have some." Sean said equivocally. Certainly, he wouldn’t reveal everything.

Smith pondered and said:

"The amount of gold coins is too much, so I can’t offer you 1,200 dollars. If I take everything, I can only offer you one thousand dollars.

I need to evaluate these items after seeing them, for instance, this candlestick could be three thousand dollars and let me weigh this golden bowl... forty-one thousand dollars."

Sean thought for a while and said:

"Let me think about it."

Smith pushed the gold coins, the golden bowl, and the candlestick towards Sean:

"Sure, but don’t take too long; after all, mobilizing such an amount of funds will take some time."

Leaving the shopping center, Sean returned to his villa.

He thought about how Jeremy must have dealt with similar items and definitely had sales channels.

Most likely, Kathy knew about this channel.

As expected, when Sean showed the gold coins to Kathy, she was not only unsurprised but also looked quite excited!

"Mr. Knight, Mr. Jeremy did indeed have a channel for selling similar items, but I need to make a phone call to see if we could still use this existing channel."

"Okay, I asked two places, one offered 400 dollars, and the other offered 1,000 dollars." Sean outlined the situation.

Kathy looked at the gold coins again and said:

"From what I see, if there’s a large quantity of gold coins, one thousand dollars would be considered a reasonable price, let me finish asking."

Then Kathy made the phone call.

Sean wasn’t in a rush, even though it was one thousand dollars, the majority of his debt would be covered and he wouldn’t have to worry as much anymore.

After finishing the call, Kathy apologized to Sean and said:

"From the people I know, only two could handle such a large volume of gold coins, with prices being around eight hundred dollars and eight hundred and fifty dollars, respectively.

They said they have seen similar gold coins before, have collected them, and that’s the market price."

Sean nodded slightly, a bit disappointed, and it seemed that he could only sell to Smith now.

Sean thought for a bit and asked Kathy:

"Ms. Kathy, could you introduce a suitable financial staff? This much money going back and forth, there’s inheritance tax to pay and tax exemption details to consider, I don’t really understand..."

Kathy showed a confident smile:

"If Mr. Knight trusts me, then let me handle it! Before Mr. Jeremy hired me, I used to work in a renowned accounting firm in New York.

I managed much of Mr. Jeremy’s finance until..."

Her face softened with a sorrowful expression.

"That’s great." Sean nodded and said, "Then I will count on you for this."

The next day, Sean invited Smith over.

Seeing the four boxes of gold coins and all the gold and silverware displayed in the room, even with mental preparation, Smith couldn’t help but sigh:

"Sean, I must say, you’re a lucky one! To find such an enormous pirate treasure, people in this world have to painstakingly spend years or even decades to do so, yet as far as I know, you’ve only been in this business for a few months... Fortune truly favors you!"

Sean laughed to himself, thinking it wasn’t that fortune favored him but rather that it was the treasure left by their ancestors. He didn’t believe in lady luck much.

"Alright, let’s take a look at these items."

Leaning Smith to sit down, he showed him these dazzling items on the table.

Gold coins were easy to handle as they mostly were all similar.

The critical items were those pieces of gold and silverware. At this moment, Smith demonstrated his carefulness and rich professional knowledge.

For each item, after studying, he could roughly tell its era and origin. Although there might be some discrepancies, there were no significant problems.

While speaking, Smith also gave a rough appraisal.

Each time he talked about an item, Sean noted it down so as not to forget, using it as a learning process as well.

Once all the items had been appraised and valuated, half the day had already passed.

Only then did Smith have time to drink water.

He looked up to Sean and said:

"Mr. Knight, I can indeed take all these items, but we still need to discuss the price in detail."

"You can proceed."
