Chapter 124: Chapter 123: Good Boy!
Sean was holding the flashlight and entering deeper into the dark cave, feeling a little uneasy.
Although he didn’t have claustrophobia, it was impossible not to feel uneasy in this narrow space where he couldn’t see clearly in front of or behind him.
However, with so much debt on his shoulders and the stimulating buff of searching for pirate treasure, Sean gritted his teeth and continued to dive deeper.
After a short while, though, the passage in front of him seemed to begin ascending.
On both sides of the cave walls, there were obvious traces of artificial excavation.
About a minute later, Sean’s head suddenly broke the surface of the water — it was gone.
Sean tried taking off his breathing mouthpiece, and discovered that there was actually air in this place!
He guessed that he had reached a space below the island.
As for the air, it was probably seeping in through the gaps in the rocks.
He shined his flashlight upward, but saw nothing.
Continuing in front of him was another cave, but this time, the direction was sloping upwards.
The cave was a lot wider now, and Sean continued to move forward, even more cautiously.
After walking for about twenty meters and turning two bends, he saw a space about the size of a house ahead.
Some vines or tree roots entangled seven or eight boxes.
One of the boxes was already broken, its contents spilling out onto the floor.
Wine pots, wine glasses, candlesticks...
Dark green and black items occasionally glinted with a touch of gold.
Sean scanned them and smiled.
He went up and picked up a candlestick - it was heavy. He scratched it with his finger, and as expected, it was made of silver.
Among the seven or eight boxes, three of them were wooden, each about a meter square, and filled with such things, presumably stolen from other people’s houses.
There were also some pearls and gemstones inside. However, the pearls had lost their color and become garbage.
On the other hand, the gemstones were quite large, and although their craftsmanship was not very good, they made up for it in quantity.
Sean put down the candlestick and went to check the four iron boxes.
There was also a small box on top of them.
The iron boxes were half the size of the wooden ones and were not locked. As Sean opened them, he saw that they were filled with golden coins!
All four boxes were!
Sean picked up a coin and inspected it, frowning.
The coin was crudely made, and he didn’t think the purity was very good either.
But the quantity was huge.
Sean tried to move the box but couldn’t.
This box of golden coins alone weighed at least a hundred kilograms.
Four boxes... Sean felt a little dizzy.
Suddenly, he felt that the 35 million dollars of debt didn’t seem like a lot!
He just didn’t expect that a small pirate treasure map would unearth so many things!
It was a bit exaggerated!
As he thought this, Sean’s gaze fell on the small box at the very top.
When the Sky Eye scanned it, he saw that the small box contained something that made Sean think it was a scam at first glance.
A skull.
A crystal skull.
Sean Knight remembered reading a book called "The Thirteenth Crystal Skull," which was about mysterious events.
It was said in the book that the Maya civilization had left behind thirteen crystal skulls, each representing the future of the Earth and holding the answers to many of its unsolved mysteries.
According to ancient records, these 13 crystal skulls were supposed to protect humanity on the day of the apocalypse and represent the future of mankind. However, humanity has never actually experienced the end of the world, so the mystery of the thirteen crystal skulls remains unsolved.
According to the prophecies of the Maya civilization, the Earth was to face its end on December 21, 2012. But the 13 crystal skulls would intervene and help humans survive. As we know now, humanity has successfully overcome the supposed apocalypse without the help of these crystal skulls.
Descriptions of many unusual properties of the crystal skulls were also recorded in the books, such as the ability to reflect light entering through their eyes out of the neck area.
It was said that the thirteenth crystal skull was discovered in Germany a few years ago, completing the set of thirteen.
Later, many people sought to debunk this, claiming that it was all a scam, and some of the crystal skulls were modern replicas.
However, Sean never expected to find a crystal skull in a small, inconspicuous box containing pirate treasure.
Sean was very interested in this legend at the time and remembered reading on the Internet that an indigenous elder from South America claimed the crystal skulls to be 100,000 years old.
But the true story remained unclear to anyone.
Sean waved his hand and stored the three wooden boxes and four small iron boxes in the spatial realm of his jade pendant.
He already felt the air here was a bit stuffy.
It seemed there were too few air holes.
He walked up, opened the small box, took out the crystal skull, and carefully observed it.
With a size similar to that of a human skull, it felt cool to the touch.
Sean felt a sense of dread in the dark, holding such a mysterious crystal skull.
However, the crystal skull seemed to have an inexplicable allure. Sean embraced it, slowly bringing it closer to himself, wanting to see its true nature!
Unconsciously, the crystal skull was pressed against Sean’s forehead!
A cold sensation slowly penetrated Sean’s mind...
At this time, Joanna, who was outside, was already getting anxious.
Sean had been underwater for a long time. He wore a simple diving suit, and the oxygen cylinder was the small, portable type that only lasted for about 10 minutes, for convenience.
Now, 20 minutes had passed, and she worried that something might be wrong.
Joanna glanced at the yacht.
The yacht was still lit, but hesitating, she did not call for Tom; instead, she ran to the supply point and started to put on her diving suit.
From the deck, Tom noticed Joanna’s actions through his telescope and called out:
"Miss Joanna, where is Mr. Knight?"
"He’s diving, and I plan on going too."
Joanna was somewhat panicked but tried to maintain a calm tone in her voice.
She knew that Sean didn’t want more people to know about the hidden treasure.
Although Tom was puzzled, he didn’t interfere too much, and simply said:
"You two be careful, it’ll be dark in less than half an hour. If you two haven’t come back by then, I’m heading over to find you."
Joanna nodded and quickly put on her diving suit, hurrying towards where Sean had gone underwater.
While Sean had been learning quickly, Joanna had been living near the seaside and accumulating experience over the years.
After diving in the water and searching for a while, she found the cave that Sean had uncovered.
Joanna hesitated for a moment before deciding to swim in.
Just at that moment, the water in the cave began to surge, as if something was about to emerge. Startled, Joanna quickly retreated, swimming to a position about seven or eight meters from the cave entrance and warily watching.
When she saw Sean coming out of the cave, Joanna lunged at him and wept for joy—she thought she had lost him.
Sean was dazed until Joanna hugged him, snapping him out of it.
His previous state had been so fantastical that even with Sky Eye and the spatial realm, he had never felt anything so intense!
