Road to becoming the wealthiest: Starting From Treasure Hunting in the Cabinets -
Chapter 111: Accidentally Released?
Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Accidentally Released?
"Five hundred thousand dollars." Roger gave a price he deemed suitable in his mind.
Roger thought that Sean would be disappointed, but unexpectedly, Sean smiled.
Sean could accept this price.
What wasn’t satisfying about buying something for several thousand dollars and selling it for 500,000 dollars?
Seeing Sean smile, Roger felt that this young man was content— he had seen too many collectors who overestimated the value of their collections, and after being hit by reality, some became furious, some became disheartened.
People like Sean were relatively rare after all.
So, Roger started to see Sean in a different light.
"By the way, what about this armor?" Sean asked again.
"The armor is genuine." Roger thought for a moment and said, "A collector I had contact with recently bought a similar armor for 2 million dollars."
"That high?" Sean was surprised. It was just a set of ancient armor, and it didn’t appear to be used by famous people. How could the price be so high?
"Yes, indeed it’s that high." Roger nodded, picked up the helmet with the visor from the armor, and said while examining it:
"There aren’t many full sets like this passed down from the Middle Ages. Most of them are in various royal palaces in Europe or in the hands of private collectors.
Those people usually won’t sell these things, instead, they collect them as family heirlooms."
Sean seemed to remember that in some knight stories he had read, some apprentice knights wore armor passed down from their ancestors— this kind of thing could generally be used for several generations!
"So, those that circulate on the market are usually very expensive. Some people need to display objects in their homes that can prove their noble lineage, like this armor."
Although Sean didn’t agree, he more or less understood.
He had seen this question on the internet several times: "Why do Westerners care about noble bloodlines, while Chinese people don’t?"
The answer to this question was relatively easy to understand— ever since Chen Sheng and Wu Guang’s uprising in Daze town and their shout "kings and generals, are not we all in the same mold," throughout thousands of years, which family in the land of China didn’t produce a few nobles?
Everybody had, so it was no longer a novelty.
"From these documents, I know the original owner of this armor." Roger said leisurely.
"You know them?" Sean was somewhat surprised but then thought that with Roger at least being part of the "circle," it wouldn’t be too strange for him to know such a person, right?
"I don’t know them, but I know of them." Roger put down the armor and said, "A month ago, this collector passed away suddenly. Their collection was divided among their children, and many items were sold off cheaply.
As for this armor, there’s a high possibility that it was part of a transaction the collector had before their death, but the transaction was not yet completed..."
Sean nodded to show he understood, and then imagined the rest— maybe there was some insider dealing with the armor, but it was just unspeakable.
"So, Mr. Roger, can you help me contact buyers for these two items?"
"You want to sell?" Roger was somewhat surprised but looked at Sean’s Chinese face and understood.
The man really wasn’t particular about it!
Of course, it wasn’t that Sean was not particular, but he felt that those things were really of no use if he kept them!
"No problem at all!" Roger was also very happy. Gaining the trading rights for these two items would not only let him expand his connections, improve his status in the circle, but also earn commission— why wouldn’t he be happy?
"Alright, then please help me contact the buyers, Mr. Roger." Sean requested.
Roger carefully took photos and videos of these two items, then bid farewell and left.
Sean left those things in the bar’s warehouse. To be honest, the place he rented was really not safe!
Sean increasingly felt that he needed his own house.
Roger acted quickly, spending less than a day to contact a suitable buyer for Sean.
This buyer was very interested in the armor, and as Roger put it, they offered the fairest price among the several buyers he had contacted.
Sean didn’t show his face throughout the process, and in the end, Roger took away the armor and the iron execution device from Sean, leaving a check for 2.6 million dollars!
Sean Knight originally planned to earn a million dollars in half a year to find the will and hire a lawyer.
He didn’t expect to make enough with this deal alone!
But now the money wasn’t even needed!
Sean called Paul Walker to ask about the progress of the case, and Paul sighed:
"Since Mark Douglas hasn’t spoken, the testimonies of those two people might help, but they won’t be enough to charge him with a serious crime! We are applying for a search warrant for Mark’s house, hoping to make some discoveries."
As soon as Sean heard this, an idea struck him and he immediately said:
"I’m pretty good at finding things. When you guys search Mark’s house, it’d be best if you took me along!"
After thinking for a moment, Paul agreed.
After all, this time Sean’s contribution to the case couldn’t be ignored, and his good luck in the container auction also made Paul trust him.
Sean’s suggestion was just an impulsive idea, but the next day, Paul called him.
"Sean, we’ve applied for the search warrant and plan to visit Mark’s house later. I’ve already reported you as my special consultant, so you’d better come to our police station and leave with us!"
"Sure!"
Sean immediately canceled his plan to participate in the container auction again and rushed to the police station where Paul was.
When Paul saw Sean, he whispered:
"This time, I’ll be leading the search of Mark’s house, so you can follow. However, since there will be other policemen with us, it’s best for you, acting as my special consultant, not to talk too much unless we make an important discovery."
Sean nodded in agreement.
Then they rode in Paul’s police car to Mark’s house.
Mark’s house was a standalone courtyard, and after the police car arrived, Paul showed the search warrant to Mark’s wife.
With an emotionless face, Mark’s wife opened the door to let them in.
Mark had a daughter, who was now clinging to her mother’s chest, looking timidly at Paul and the others.
"Don’t be scared, Alice," Mark’s wife gently comforted her daughter.
Mark’s home was warmly decorated, and the smiling faces of the family of three on the wall exuded happiness. Sean was moved.
He hadn’t expected the law-breaking Mark to have a different appearance at home.
But it was normal.
Clearing his emotions, Sean activated the Sky Eye and started inspecting.
Paul and the others split up to search, and Sean silently wandered through each room.
The two policemen following Paul quickly finished searching their assigned areas but found nothing!
Disbelieving the results, Paul personally checked once more.
Half an hour later, Paul returned to the living room with a dark expression on his face.
Apparently, this search hadn’t yielded anything valuable!
He asked Mark’s wife:
"After Mark was arrested, did anyone visit? Did they take anything away?"
Mark’s wife shook her head.
At this moment, Sean called out from the study room upstairs:
"Paul, I’ve found something!"
