Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Blind boxes are not that easy to open!
(Chapter four is here, seeking support!)
The person who bid for the first container couldn’t wait to start moving the stuff inside out, Sean knew this guy could probably make around a few thousand dollars.
The auctioneer loudly introduced:
"The second container came from the UK. Since the recipient is nowhere to be found and the shipping address is unknown, no one has claimed it. Therefore, it is now open for auction!"
Having finished speaking, he signaled to his assistant, who directly cut open the lock and pulled open the container door.
Looking at the sight of stacked packaging paper, everyone was befuddled!
Though it’s not packed tightly, from this view, one can see all the way inside, where more packaging paper is neatly folded. There is nothing else in sight.
Could this container be filled with just this stuff?
This isn’t worth much money!
Normally, even one minute of observation time would not be enough, but this time, everyone just stood in place and looked, with no intention of moving forward.
The auctioneer, probably realizing the lack of interest in this container, raised his hand and loudly announced:
"This container will be sold at auction without reserve, the auction starts now!"
For a while, no one bid.
Sean was also watching the situation.
Suddenly, Madden raised his hand!
The auctioneer immediately broke into a smile.
Everyone knows that Madden loves to bid high, so usually as soon as he makes a move, the price would be bumped up significantly!
At least it won’t be passed over this time!
Madden loudly proclaimed:
"I bid—one dollar!"
Pfft!
Ha ha ha ha!
Quite a few people burst into laughter!
The smile on the auctioneer’s face froze!
Isn’t Madden going too far!
Is he really going to sell this container for a dollar in the end?
However, now that Madden has bid, the auctioneer must abide by the rules and call the price no matter how low it may be:
"Okay, Madden’s bid is one dollar, is there anyone willing to bid higher? One dollar, going for one dollar, anyone else willing to bid higher..."
A treasure hunter spoke:
"One hundred dollars!"
Just kidding. This container may be relatively small, less than ten meters long, but the whole container full of packaging paper could sell for more than 300 dollars, right?
The auctioneer exhaled in relief, at least that’s acceptable.
He kept on calling:
"One hundred dollars, this gentleman bid one hundred dollars, is there anyone willing to bid higher? One hundred dollars, one hundred dollars..."
Sean raised his hand:
"One thousand dollars!"
As soon as Sean made a move, it immediately drew the attention of several other people.
Hamilton Diaz smirked and raised his hand:
"One thousand five hundred dollars!"
He’s not planning to take it, just looking to stir things up after seeing Sean making money in the morning.
Madden looked closely again, raised his hand and bid:
"Two thousand dollars!"
The price gradually increased until Sean bid again when it reached six thousand dollars:
"Six thousand five hundred dollars!"
Hamilton Diaz hesitated for a moment, then made another bid:
"Six thousand eight hundred dollars!"
He dared not increase it too much, fearing that if Sean didn’t bid, the container would end up in his hands, which would be bad.
But Madden, disregarding the situation, immediately raised the bid to seven thousand dollars!
At this point, the auctioneer started showing his true colours:
"Madden’s bid is seven thousand dollars. Is there anyone bidding higher? Seven thousand dollars for this rare container that has attracted several big shots. You can take it for seven thousand dollars....."
The auctioneer wanted to build a hot atmosphere, but the exterior of this container was too shabby, so no one responded.
Sean Knight raised his hand to bid again:
"7,500 dollars!"
Madden hesitated for a moment, then turned to Sean and said:
"Congratulations!"
The bronze pen in Sean’s hand was spinning faster, and he replied with a smile:
"We’ll see, it might just be a bunch of useless paper."
After paying the auctioneer and completing the procedures, Sean and Jason Caldwell began to unpack the cardboard boxes.
The auctioneer and the others had already moved on to the third container.
Sean and Jason were cleaning slowly, and while moving the boxes, Jason said to Sean:
"Bosuns Evans, should we call some people over?"
"There’s no need," Sean shook his head, "We can do it slowly, just the two of us."
Jason was curious, but he didn’t ask why.
Having spent some time with Sean, Jason had learned what questions he should and shouldn’t ask.
Stacks of packaging boxes were taken out.
Not far away, the auction of the third container was underway. Many people who saw the blind boxes cursed them as "crap," but some were excited, enjoying the suspense of these blind boxes.
The auction started with a price of 3,000 dollars and it kept rising!
When the price reached eight thousand dollars, Sean stopped paying attention.
Bidding further wasn’t worth it.
Eventually, the third container was auctioned to Madden for twelve thousand dollars.
Like Sean, he didn’t bother with the fourth container either, but instead got some help moving all the packaging boxes out of the third container.
Madden opened a box, saw a mobile phone, and excitedly cheered, catching others’ attention.
Sean pretended to look over and then exclaimed in surprise:
"Mobile phones? Woohoo! Madden, you’ve hit the jackpot this time!"
Madden joyously gave Sean a thumbs-up, then continued sifting through the boxes.
The others expressed their envy and jealousy.
Then, at the auction for the fourth container, seeing the carefully packaged items, people started bidding high just like Madden:
"2000 dollars!"
This bid was placed by Hamilton Diaz.
Seeing Madden win a hefty load of mobile phones from a blind box, he felt unbalanced and decided to try his luck with the fourth container, hoping to find a steal!
Madden took out the phones from one box and set them aside, then opened a second box. Seeing more phones, he jumped with joy!
However, when he touched them, his face instantly changed!
"Damn it! Fuck! Son of a bitch!"
How could they be models?
Madden was not happy at all!
Sean chuckled, and seeing Jason almost reaching the box that contained the medieval armor, he quickly told him:
"Move the things over there."
Although Jason didn’t understand why Sean instructed him to do so, he obediently complied.
By then, the auction for the fourth container had ended, and Hamilton Diaz successfully won it for 4,600 dollars.
The other treasure hunters either sighed and left or stayed to watch the fun.
Seeing the odd expression on Madden’s face, Hamilton Diaz loudly asked:
"What’s up, Mr. Madden? Aren’t those all mobile phones you got? Why the long face?"
"Damn it! Most of them are models! There are only ten real phones!"
Upon hearing this, Hamilton Diaz burst into uproarious laughter!
Feeling victorious, he ordered people to move the heaviest item out of the container.
The item was heavy, requiring two people to lift it gingerly.
Hamilton Diaz loudly announced:
"I bet there’s a full set of renovation tools inside! If so, I can make at least 5,000 dollars!"
Then he found a knife and swiftly cut open the plastic wrap.
Madden stopped unpacking and just watched Hamilton Diaz’s movements.
When Hamilton Diaz cut open and ripped off the plastic wrap, revealing the item inside, Madden erupted into laughter!
