Chapter 113: Chapter 113: Sending Jerky

Chen Jun slapped Li Dongxiang, knocking her to the ground.

The noodles Li Dongxiang was holding spilled all over the floor.

"You’re useless, every day you just know how to boil noodles at home. Learn from others; they also rely on their husbands to support the family, and their days are lived with flavor. Look at you, can’t do anything right, just know how to drag me down all day."

Chen Jun was just looking for a reason to vent his anger.

Hasn’t their family always been like this?

It’s a bit far-fetched to blame her now.

But Li Dongxiang also heard about Ye Hao causing trouble for him.

Chen Jun is definitely angry now, and she was the one who caused this.

Li Dongxiang felt somewhat guilty.

So she didn’t dare to argue with Chen Jun.

She only cursed Gu Yi in her heart, showing off with nothing to do every day.

Also blamed Yang Lin; it’s been so long, and Yang Lin hasn’t shown her face or sent any money or food to her.

Li Dongxiang quickly cleaned up the floor.

Then she went to prepare another bowl of noodles for Chen Jun, boiled the only two eggs they had at home for him.

Chen Jun ate and then went to sleep.

Li Dongxiang sat alone in the living room, getting angrier the more she thought about it.

This Yang Lin, she had suffered so much grievance for her, and last time only received ten yuan.

Li Dongxiang felt even more wronged the more she thought about it.

"Next time she comes, if it’s not fifty, I won’t let her off."

She said angrily.

Meanwhile, Yang Lin at the military hospital in B City suddenly felt a chill down her spine and sneezed.

Gu Yi was thinking last night that she would go to school this afternoon, and wouldn’t see Ye Hao for a week.

With her not around, Ye Hao eats at the canteen every day, but canteen meals are on a fixed schedule. If he gets hungry outside of meal times, he has to endure it.

He trains so hard every day; she wondered if he’s getting enough nutrition.

Gu Yi thought of making some snacks for Ye Hao to leave at home, so if he gets hungry at night, he can have something to eat.

But what to make? Gu Yi thought all night and eventually decided on making pork jerky, filling and nutritious.

So early in the morning, she went and bought quite a bit of meat, cutting it into strips and marinating it with seasoning.

After lunch, Gu Yi took the marinated pork strips out to drain.

She put oil in the pot and fried the pork.

Gu Yi divided the fried pork into two halves, added chili powder to one half to make it spicy, and left the other half plain.

She made quite a lot and thought of giving some to Ye Honglian and the others, as she was familiar with only these three people here.

Although Gu Yi wasn’t frequently on the base, she still had a good relationship with the few there.

She took three bowls, since Ye Honglian and Wu Chunmei both had young babies, she filled those bowls with plain jerky.

For Fang Hong, she put some spicy jerky at the bottom of the bowl and topped it with plain jerky.

Gu Yi found a basket, put the bowls inside, and covered them with a towel.

On the base, although she wasn’t familiar with many people, Ye Hao was known to all. If she only gave to three people, others would surely gossip, so covering it was better.

When she finished her preparations and was about to leave, she realized she only knew they all lived in the housing blocks, but didn’t know the specific floors or rooms.

Initially, Gu Yi thought of waiting to ask Ye Hao when he woke up, but there was nothing else for her to do.

In the end, she went out with the basket.

On reaching the bottom of the building, she happened to meet a military wife and asked for directions.

After thanking her, Gu Yi followed the directions and first found Ye Honglian’s house.

She knocked on the door, and soon Ye Honglian opened it.

"Hey, Yiyi, how come you’re here? Come in and sit."

Ye Honglian was quite warm when she saw her.

"Sister-in-law, I won’t sit. I was just messing around at home, making some food, and brought some for Qiangqiang to try."

Gu Yi said, taking a bowl out from the basket.

Ye Honglian looked at the bowl Gu Yi brought.

"What did you make, is it meat?"

Ye Honglian hadn’t seen this before, but it smelled particularly good.

"Yes, made some jerky. I can’t stay long on the base, so I thought of making some snacks for Ye Hao to nibble on if he gets hungry."

Gu Yi didn’t think much of it as she explained.

But Ye Honglian laughed when she heard it.

"You treat your deputy battalion commander at home like a kid, making snacks for him. No wonder he treats you so well, a good relationship between a couple requires effort from both sides."

Ye Honglian felt a bit emotional toward the end.

"Sister-in-law, try this. I made spicy and non-spicy ones, but I brought non-spicy for Qiangqiang, afraid he might not eat spicy."

Gu Yi handed the bowl to Ye Honglian.

Ye Honglian took the bowl and tried a small piece.

"Hmm, this tastes really good, the more you chew, the better it gets, your cooking is really good."

Ye Honglian thought Qiangqiang would surely love it.

"It’s easy to make; if Qiangqiang likes it, I’ll teach you next time when I come back."

Being praised always lifts one’s spirits, and Gu Yi was no exception.

"Yiyi, thank you in advance. Are you going to B City this afternoon?"

Parents always strive to give the best for their children, and Ye Honglian was no different.

Listening to Gu Yi, Ye Honglian liked her even more. Such skills are not usually shared easily with others.

"Yes, I’m going this afternoon."

Gu Yi nodded slightly.

"Yiyi, can I ask what you do in B City?"

Ye Honglian thought Gu Yi might be working in B City, otherwise relying on Ye Hao’s stipend alone wouldn’t allow their comfortable living, like casually gifting jerky.

She just wanted to inquire if there was anything suitable for her to do, as now that Qiangqiang was in kindergarten, she could earn some money to help with household expenses.

"Sister-in-law, don’t laugh at me when I tell you, okay?"

Gu Yi didn’t state directly but instead said this.

"No, no, sister-in-law just wants to know if you work in the city?"

Ye Honglian quickly replied.

"No, I’m studying at the Art College in the city, just passed the entrance exams this year."

After Gu Yi spoke, Ye Honglian couldn’t quite believe it.

"You’re really attending school?"

"Yes, they specially recruited a batch this year, and I happened to catch up."

Gu Yi smiled slightly.

"Oh, studying is good, I’ve often been at a loss when out because I don’t recognize words."

Although it differed from what she initially thought, Ye Honglian found Gu Yi even more impressive, managing both her studies and household affairs so well.

"Yes, indeed, I also have nothing much to do now, so I thought of learning more while I’m still young. Sister-in-law, I’ll chat with you next time when I return. You rest now, I’ll visit Sister-in-law Wu and Fang Hong, I brought some for them too."

Gu Yi checked the time and noticed Ye Hao would wake up soon.

So she proposed to go see Wu Chunmei and Fang Hong next.

"Alright, alright, thank you for the jerky. Go quickly; Chunmei lives right opposite me, and Fang Hong lives upstairs from us."

Ye Honglian quickly thanked her, went to the kitchen to fetch her own bowl, and poured out the jerky for Gu Yi to take the bowl back.

Gu Yi gave jerky to Wu Chunmei and Fang Hong, both of whom were pleasantly surprised, especially Fang Hong.

She didn’t expect Gu Yi would think of her too; being introverted and Gu Yi not often at the base, she hadn’t interacted much with Gu Yi.

After delivering the jerky, Gu Yi returned home just as Ye Hao was waking up.
