Chapter 645: Chapter 645: (1st Update)
Xu Niannian and Nanny Zhao, holding two children, arrived at the Xu family’s place, while Xu Sisi was in her room frowning and distressed. What on earth should she wear? Was anyone going to tell her?
This was her first engagement, and Xu Sisi had no idea how to dress a bit more formally, as her usual clothes were rather schoolgirlish.
She had asked her great grandmother.
But the old lady simply threw her a sentence to figure it out on her own and employed a hands-off policy.
So Xu Sisi was busy choosing clothes in her room.
The old lady and Xu Wentian were eating in the living room downstairs; the old lady had recently developed a passion for sweets.
She took a sweet cake and brought it to Xu Wentian’s mouth, "Ah, old man, open up."
Xu Wentian indulgently opened his mouth and ate the sweet treat he didn’t particularly like.
"How does it taste?" the old lady asked with a face full of anticipation.
Xu Wentian looked at Gao Lihong and smiled, "Sweet." Seeing the crumbs around her mouth, he gently reached out and wiped them away for her.
While these two old lovebirds displayed their affection, Xu Niannian and Nanny Zhao stepped through the front door carrying the two children and saw this scene.
It wouldn’t have mattered, except that the Baby Nian they were holding let out a "wa" and covered his eyes with his chubby hands, as if he had just seen some cringe-inducing display, which left Xu Niannian bemused.
When the old lady and Xu Wentian saw Xu Niannian come over, they no longer were engrossed in their sweet moments.
The old lady hurried over to take Xiao Bao from Xu Niannian’s hands, "Baby Nian, why did you come over? Weren’t you still at home recovering? Look at you, still carrying children?"
Xu Niannian was the apple of the old lady’s eye; even a small bump or scrape would make her worry excessively, let alone having lain in the hospital with her eyes closed for three days and nights, almost failing to wake up.
She wasn’t due for discharge yet according to the regulations, but because of the New Year, she and Jin Yu had been brought back, but she was supposed to recuperate at home under the care of a specially appointed doctor.
Seeing Xu Niannian come over like this, the old lady’s heart ached.
Xu Niannian knew the old lady cared about her and quickly reassured her, "Grandma, I’m fine, much better now. Today is Sisi’s engagement, and I came over to give her some advice. That girl probably still doesn’t know what to wear?"
The old lady remembered Xu Sisi coming to her for advice.
What had she told her at the time?
To figure it out on her own... She was told to take care of it herself.
In that moment, the old lady felt a pang of shame and felt somewhat guilty towards her granddaughter.
If she had offered a couple of suggestions, her dear Niannian wouldn’t have had to go back and forth trouble.
After a few words with the old lady, finally, she had persuaded her. Then she ran upstairs.
Pushing open the door to Xu Sisi’s room, Xu Niannian saw clothes flying everywhere.
Xu Niannian opened her eyes in surprise, "Sisi, what are you doing?"
Xu Sisi’s room was spacious, but now clothes littered the floor, and no one could tell which were clean or dirty. Xu Niannian almost couldn’t find a spot to step.
Startled by Xu Niannian’s voice, Xu Sisi’s head popped out from the wardrobe, wearing an emerald green hat on top.
"Ah, Sister Niannian, how did you come over?"
Honestly though, seeing Xu Sisi with a green hat on her head, Xu Niannian desperately wanted to laugh.
"I came to give you a hand. Why are you hiding in the wardrobe?"
Bringing this up, Xu Sisi felt a headache and promptly climbed out of the wardrobe.
She had an expression of great injustice on her face.
"It’s my first engagement, and grandma wouldn’t tell me anything, telling me to sort it out myself. But I have no clue what to wear. Look at my clothes, they all look like something a kid would wear."
Thinking of the two old people who were always busy romancing, Xu Sisi felt aggrieved.
She used to think that her grandfather was reliable, but turned out he was henpecked; grandma didn’t care about her, and neither did grandpa.
Living is truly exhausting.
She felt like a small bok choy abandoned by others.
