Chapter 227: Chapter 226: The Family’s Expectations (2 more updates)

He unveiled the package then and there, boasting cheekily, "Young Master will let you all see today whether I’ve been lying or not."

"Bunny brat, your grandfather isn’t dead yet, and here you are calling yourself ’Young Master’." Elder Master Jin slapped the back of Xu Qiang’s head, "Hurry up and take it out."

It wasn’t that the old master was particularly fond of eating, he was simply curious about the only girl who was about to become his grandson’s wife.

What kind of girl was she that could make his well-behaved grandson fall for her?

While curious, he didn’t forget to tease Xu Qiang, "You’re already asking for food for her before your sister-in-law has even entered the family. So ambitious, next time you’re not allowed to do this, otherwise, Grandfather will break your legs."

Xu Zhiqiang hummed noncommittally, not responding. He thought that once they had tasted the Liuyue Su made by his cousin’s wife, maybe the old man would be the one asking for it himself.

With that in mind, Xu Qiang happily started to take out the contents of the package.

The family gathered around the coffee table, even Jin Ruiyang who was stretching his limbs on the side, cast a glance over.

Xu Qiang had been boasting for so long that Jin Ruibing, Jin Xiaoni, and others couldn’t be more curious.

Xu Qiang even made a spectacle of it, swiftly pulling the contents out of the bag with a flourish, "Ta-da-da-da!"

Everyone: "..."

What Xu Qiang had fished out was a glass jar, inside of which was Butter Sauce.

Xu Qiang had never tasted Xu Niannian’s Butter Dough, nor did he know what it was.

Seeing such a glass jar, Xu Qiang paused for a moment, turning the jar over several times, "What’s this thing, where’s my Xiao Su?"

Jin Ruibing even mocked him, "Pfft, this is what you’ve been calling Liuyue Su? Isn’t it just a jar of crappy chili sauce?"

Xu Qiang had no time to bicker with him, in his urgency, he put the jar aside too quickly, and accidentally knocked it over as he withdrew his hand.

A clattering sound followed as the jar shattered.

With it, a fragrant scent suddenly wafted through the air.

A savory, spicy aroma spread about, carrying a particularly rich and enticing fragrance.

Merely the smell was enough to make one salivate.

Instantly, everyone was attracted to the fragrant mess on the ground, and even Xu Qiang froze, his hunt for the Xiao Su momentarily forgotten, his gaze drawn over.

The jar on the floor was smashed to smithereens, not a bit left intact, its chili sauce contents spilled out.

The sauce’s crimson hue was vibrant, the thick broth clinging to a piece of diced mushroom on top, looking juicy and springy as if bursting with delicious sauce at one bite.

The scent was a real challenge to the taste buds.

The Jin family, young and old, all relished spiciness.

The smell alone was enough to make one crave a taste straight from the ground.

Realizing what he had done, Xu Qiang clutched his head in horror, "Oh my god, what have I done!"

All eyes shot toward him in unison, no need for him to vouch how delicious it was anymore, the aroma alone had everyone drooling.

Elder Master Jin, frustrated and angry, slapped him again, "Hurry and see what else is inside."

The servants swept the remnants from the floor into the trash, and Xu Qiang, having learned his lesson, shakily continued to take out the remaining items.

Seeing that there was another jar of chili sauce, Xu Qiang nearly cried with relief, while the family also felt an odd sense of reassurance.

There was a wooden box as well.

Xu Qiang thought it was the Liuyue Su and quickly opened it.

Instead of Liuyue Su, there were rows of mung bean cakes, pale yellow with a hint of light green.

Jin Xiaoni asked, "Is this Liuyue Su? Why does it look like mung bean cake?"

The mung bean cake emitted a delicate fragrance, but with the room still thick with the scent of Butter Sauce, one couldn’t detect its aroma without getting closer.

Xu Qiang was also taken aback for a moment—his cousin’s wife was not playing by the book.

"There’s a note here." Xu Xiaoxia, with sharp eyes, noticed a piece of paper at the bottom of the wooden box.

Xu Qiang was about to pick it up when someone else beat him to it.

With fingers long and well-defined, Jin Ruiyang pinched the note, reading it at a glance.

The handwriting was elegant and free-spirited, indication of a casual attitude, a sort of nonchalance that differed from a man’s writing, carrying a delicate charm.

Written by a woman.

The message on it was simple, and Jin Ruiyang read it out in a pleasant voice, "Liuyue Su doesn’t keep well for long and isn’t suitable for mailing, so I sent you mung bean cake and Butter Sauce. The mung bean cake is refreshing, and the Butter Sauce is to be mixed with noodles."

After reading, Jin Ruiyang was the first to reach for a piece of mung bean cake, taking a bite with caution.

The soft cake exuded a milky sweetness, and as he bit down, a faintly elegant fragrance released, blending with the freshness of the mung beans.

The texture was exceedingly smooth, almost melting in his mouth without much chewing, soft and fragrant.

With one bite, he revealed the filling inside, which he hadn’t reached yet.

Jin Ruiyang took another bite, and this time, the creamy filling at the center slid into his mouth—fine and melting upon contact.

The center filling was cool and refreshing, rich yet not cloying, its sweet flavor flooding his mouth and refreshing every cell within.

His body, which had just heated up from exercise, seemed instantly cooled, and Jin Ruiyang couldn’t help but squint his eyes, savoring this unique taste.

Seeing his expression, everyone gathered around, full of anticipation, asking, "How does it taste?"

A look of curiosity written all across their faces.
