Xu Qiang couldn’t help but laugh and couldn’t be bothered to argue with them, "Just don’t come begging me to share my food when the time comes. I’m going to write a letter to my cousin-in-law right now and ask her to send me some food."
After saying that, he ran upstairs in a huff, while a group of brothers and sisters started teasing, "Did your performance get smashed?"
Jin Ruiyang sat on the living room sofa, holding an English book in his left hand and pushing up his gold-rimmed glasses with his right, casting a helpless smile at the rowdy bunch beside him.
"Big brother, what are you laughing at?" Jin Xiaoni curiously approached and glanced at the book in Jin Ruiyang’s hand.
She couldn’t understand a single word of the densely packed English words. The illiterate girl shook her head in headache, "Scary."
Jin Ruiyang smiled without a word.
Jin Xiaoni asked him, "Big brother, do you believe what Qiangzi said?"
"Why wouldn’t I believe him?" Jin Ruiyang countered.
Jin Xiaoni thought about it and felt it made sense. Her eldest cousin, with his sky-high arrogance, surely wouldn’t fancy a woman of poor caliber.
After all, he didn’t even take a liking to a woman as outstanding as Sister Feifei.
"Then, big brother, does Sister Feifei stand a chance?"
"Go play, and don’t pry into adult matters. You’re just a kid," Jin Ruiyang said with a smile on his face.
Just then, the phone in the living room rang, and Jin Ruiyang answered it.
"Hello."
Hearing Jin Ruiyang’s voice, Ye Shaoting was taken aback for a moment before quickly regathering his thoughts.
"Hello, Ruiyang, Jin Yu took a night train to the capital; I couldn’t stop him. It’s a complicated issue. Jin Yu is going to settle the score with the Ye Family’s good-for-nothing grandson. He will arrive at the station at six in the afternoon. You should pick him up and prevent him from acting rashly."
"What happened?" Jin Ruiyang slightly furrowed his brows, his voice calm and gentle.
"I can’t give the details, it’s top secret. Just stop Jin Yu, he listens to you the most. Talk some sense into him," the voice on the other end said.
"Alright, I’ll handle it. Don’t worry," Jin Ruiyang replied.
Jin Xiaoni had been listening by the side and, seeing him hang up the phone, leaned in to ask, "Big brother, who was on the phone?"
Jin Ruiyang didn’t answer, adjusted his glasses with one hand, picked up the car keys from the coffee table, and started walking outside.
*
At the train station, Jin Yu strode out furiously.
He had originally planned to interrogate a prisoner they had captured. As everyone knows, to prevent prisoners from committing suicide, they must be closely guarded without giving them the slightest chance to take their own lives.
His team had captured many prisoners, and none had succeeded in committing suicide.
But by some sick twist of fate, as soon as Old Master Ye’s people took over for just a few minutes, the prisoner committed suicide.
Jin Yu didn’t need anything spelled out to know the ins and outs of this situation.
As for the failure of the last mission not being related to the Ye Family’s useless grandson, Jin Yu would never believe it even if he were beaten to death.
But now, there was no direct evidence, and the prisoner indeed committed suicide, so even if Jin Yu wanted to openly cause trouble, he couldn’t.
Old Master Ye didn’t do anything; all he did was give the prisoner a chance to commit suicide.
As for the captured prisoner, his status wasn’t much different from Jin Yu’s—hiring a soldier.
Who moreover was a foreign national.
Which one of these people hadn’t undergone severe special training? Once captured by the enemy, as long as there was the slightest chance to commit suicide, they would absolutely not want to live.
All Old Master Ye needed to do was instruct his people to guard a little less stringently, and success in aiding the prisoner’s suicide would follow.
Even if Jin Yu reported it, at most they would judge it as negligence.
Such a light charge would be nothing more than a mild itch for the Ye Family, not painful in the least.
How could Jin Yu possibly suppress this anger.
For this mission, two living lives were sacrificed.
Jin Yu was known for his wild and arrogant character, but most of the time, he was calmer and more rational than anyone.
But this incident hit close to home, involving two brothers who had been sacrificed.
How could he remain indifferent and keep a cool head?
He couldn’t, they were his brothers.
Now, carrying his anger with him, he had planned to stab that grandson dead, to avenge his brothers.
Damn it, at worst after stabbing the man, he would spend life in prison. If that didn’t work out, he would trade his own life for it. He wouldn’t rest until that grandson was dead, unable to face the two brothers who had been sacrificed.
Jin Yu’s fury rose to an unprecedented height, and Jin Ruiyang could feel the surging anger as he saw him exit the train station, even before getting close to him.
With a slight frown on his handsome eyebrows, Jin Ruiyang moved forward and grabbed Jin Yu’s wrist, "Get in the car."
Jin Yu, already enraged, was suddenly grabbed and almost threw a punch.
Seeing it was Jin Ruiyang, he withdrew his hand.
"Why is it you?" Jin Yu furrowed his brows, "Did Ye Shaoting tell you?"
"Get in the car first." Jin Ruiyang directly pulled him into the car and firmly locked the doors.
Jin Yu sat in the backseat, unaffected by Jin Ruiyang’s action of locking the door, barely lifting an eyelid, he said with a slight smirk, "Your car can’t trap me, take me to the Ye Family."
Without even needing to see his current expression, just from hearing the tone of his speech, Jin Ruiyang knew how explosive Jin Yu’s temper was at the moment.
Glancing at him in the rearview mirror, Jin Ruiyang slowly pushed up his glasses and drove towards the Military District Compound.
"Calm down."
"I can’t calm down, today I’m going to slaughter that son of a bitch no matter what."
"And then?" Jin Ruiyang’s tone was neither too fast nor too slow, forming a stark contrast to the agitated Jin Yu.
"Then I’ll go turn myself in," Jin Yu said through clenched teeth.
"You know it’s against the law and yet you continue?" Jin Ruiyang chuckled softly, his voice warm, "I don’t know what grudge you have with Ye Xiangtian, but you can’t be impulsive about this."
"Today, I just have to be impulsive," Jin Yu was like a firecracker that would ignite at the slightest touch.
Jin Ruiyang grabbed his metaphorical achilles heel, "I can take you there, but have you thought about the consequences of doing this? I’ve heard from Qiangzi that your fiancée is very beautiful."
Hearing the word "fiancée," half of Jin Yu’s soaring anger subsided, and he was momentarily stunned.
He muttered subconsciously, "Jiaojiao..."
"Her name is Jiaojiao?"
Upon hearing Jin Ruiyang referring to Xu Niannian as Jiaojiao, Jin Yu frowned and corrected him, "Her name is Xu Niannian, not Jiaojiao."
Jiaojiao was his exclusive nickname for her, only he was allowed to use it.
Jin Ruiyang chuckled softly, Jin Yu’s reaction proving that he truly cared about this girl.
He continued to press on his sore spot in an unhurried manner, "Since we were little, our tastes have been the most similar. I believe I could also come to like a woman you fancy. If you really want to seek death, I’ll lend you a hand. After that, your fiancée—I’ll marry her for you, your child... ah, wrong, my child, I’ll have with Xu Niannian."
"Fuck your grandpa, Jin Ruiyang, I’ll kill you."
Jin Yu pounced forward in one swift move, his long legs stretching from the back to the front, he deftly stepped on the brakes, pinning Jin Ruiyang’s hands behind his back, with one knee pressed on his waist, he pushed his face against the car window.
Laughing softly, Jin Ruiyang’s glasses were askew, yet he still looked effortlessly handsome.
Allowing himself to be restrained, Jin Ruiyang said with a laugh, "So, still want to go to the Ye Family? I’ll get you a knife."
Jin Ruiyang was the commander of a key troop in the capital, holding the same rank as Jin Yu. If it really came down to a fight, Jin Yu would not be able to subdue him so easily.
Jin Yu swore under his breath and let go of him, slumping into the passenger seat.
"Drive."
"Where to?" asked Jin Ruiyang.
Jin Yu shot him an impatient glance, "You know damn well where, the Compound."
At his words, Jin Ruiyang chuckled, clicking his tongue regretfully, "It seems that Niannian and I are doomed to be star-crossed lovers."
Jin Yu’s forehead throbbed with prominent veins, "Not star-crossed, she’s your sister-in-law."
Jin Ruiyang couldn’t help but laugh. Arguing with him meant he had calmed down.
"Feeling calmer now?"
"Shut up!"
"You’re still getting offended?" asked Jin Ruiyang.
Jin Yu ground his teeth, "You want to marry my woman and I’m not supposed to get offended?"
Jin Ruiyang arched an eyebrow, "If I really like her, I’ll snatch your woman too."
"Fuck you..."
Jin Yu wanted to say fuck your mother, but then he remembered that was his dear aunt, he wanted to say fuck your grandfather, but realized that would be his grandfather too.
In the end, after holding it in for a while, he couldn’t contain it and kicked his waist, "Go eat shit."
After venting, Jin Yu had calmed down considerably, knowing that Jin Ruiyang had his best interests at heart, he said with a smirk, "Thanks."
Jin Ruiyang hummed, "You thanking me for wanting to have kids with your woman?"
"Fuck your grandpa."
Jin Yu kicked at Jin Ruiyang again, but this time his foot didn’t connect, because Jin Ruiyang returned the kick.
The two long legs collided in the crowded confines of the car.
Jin Ruiyang adjusted his glasses, his smile warm and genteel, "When will you change that hot temper?"
Jin Yu retorted, "A wolf in sheep’s clothing has no right to criticize me."
That bastard Jin Ruiyang was the most deceptive person Jin Yu had ever seen.
Deep down he was a scoundrel, yet he always presented himself as the picture of a modest gentleman, a facade of cultured and gentle refinement.
