Chapter 161: Chapter 161: Features, Specialties!
"From ’Spanish Stuffed Peppers’ to ’Spanish Seafood Black Rice’ and the simple yet incredibly delicious ’Spanish Garlic Shrimp’."
Xia Yu had enjoyed three new dishes not yet launched at Kazasaki Tatsuki’s Spanish-style restaurant.
As soon as she sat down in the car after leaving the restaurant, Tiqie Helinai asked, "Which of those three new dishes are you most optimistic about? I mean, which one do you think will sell well?"
"Garlic Shrimp!" Xia Yu said without hesitation, "It’s simple, delicious, and full of Spanish flair, yet it’s also a national snack. If the price is right, I can’t see a reason why it wouldn’t be popular."
Tiqie Helinai’s lips curled into a smile, a twinkle of agreement flashing in her eyes.
They had a packed schedule today; next on the list was Kikuchi Sankaku’s ’Spring Fruit Pavilion.’
"Oh?"
When the two arrived at Spring Fruit Pavilion, a long-haired woman with a frighteningly ample bosom was just seeing off a regular customer at the entrance. Spotting Xia Yu and Tiqie Helinai approaching together, she was immediately delighted.
"Miss Tiqie, you’re here!" The woman’s delicate face lit up with joy.
She was Kikuchi Sankaku, had graduated as one of the elite and started her own restaurant, ’Spring Fruit Pavilion’, within less than two years. Both she and Kazasaki Tatsuki were praised as ’monsters who, although young, could compete with chefs above six stars.’
Moreover, because of her large breasts, Kazasaki Tatsuki often called her ’Big-breasted Demon.’ Though she appeared fragile and timid, only she knew her true nature.
A bit of a schemer.
Kikuchi Sankaku specialized in cuisine themed around ’spring,’ with vegetables and fruits being vital ingredients in her culinary kingdom.
"This is the new dish our restaurant plans to promote—Fruit Pizza!"
Soon after, Kikuchi Sankaku brought a steaming hot pizza to the table.
"Fruit Pizza?"
Xia Yu and Eriina observed.
The surface of the pizza was vibrant, seemingly chaotic with fruit at first glance. Yet upon closer inspection, the arrangement was harmoniously irregular; missing one piece, or adding an extra piece of any fruit would seem to break the balance.
"Shall we?" Xia Yu invited Eriina.
She nodded lightly. The pizza was pre-sliced, and following Xia Yu, Eriina picked up a piece and bit down.
"Crunch!"
Her entire body shuddered as juice from the fruits burst in her mouth. The pizza base was soft, and for a moment, with the mix of apple, kiwi, kiwi fruit, raisins, and more, along with cheese, an explosion of flavors erupted in their mouths!
In a daze, Xia Yu found herself standing in a spring fruit garden, with trees bearing ripe fruits that were ripe for the picking.
"Ah—"
A scream. Xia Yu saw the bare Tiqie Helinai opposite her, who was also tightly staring back.
Slowly chewing the pizza in her mouth, it was very chewy, especially the fresh fruits scattered on its surface, full of natural flavors. With each chew, Xia Yu didn’t know what taste would hit her next, sour or sweet, it was both anticipatory and surprising.
"This style... It’s really a secret garden of fruits, a treasure chest of fruits and vegetables!"
Xia Yu thought to herself.
...
The evening sun bathed the increasingly deserted shopping street in its glow.
"Come in and sit for a while!"
After getting out of the car, without hurrying to close the door, Xia Yu smiled and extended an invitation to the Divine Tongue in the car.
Tiqie Eriina agreed this time and came down with Niho Fuyuka; Xia Yu led them to the backyard tea pavilion and brewed some tea for them, finding a soft cushion to sit beside them.
He had been running around all day, starting from nine in the morning, visiting seven or eight restaurants nonstop; each restaurant’s chef provided Xia Yu with distinctly different culinary delights.
You see, the same dish in the hands of different chefs can be interpreted in thousands of colorful ways.
Just a minor change in the ingredient pairing could drastically alter the taste of a dish. Xia Yu had many gains and insights, but to put it straightforwardly, he had a clear understanding of the capabilities of a Five-Star Chef!
To him, a Five-Star Chef was not unbeatable.
Below the level of a five-star chef, it all depended on whose secret technique was closest to that premium quality, which completely matched what Xia Yu had thought before.
So, the slight impatience Xia Yu had felt these past couple of days was suddenly alleviated after today’s hustle.
"Uniqueness! Specialties!"
Xia Yu murmured, "Kazasaki Tatsuki, Kikuchi Sankaku, even Chef Shen He, they have all fully integrated their uniqueness and specialties into their cooking!"
It felt as if a huge bell had rung in his mind, clearing the fog before his eyes.
What were his own uniqueness and specialties?
Flame, and the spices he had recently made progress with; in other words, the utilization of "Bursting Flame" and "Spices Inequality" cooking techniques!
In Chef Shen He, Kazasaki Tatsuki, Kikuchi Sankaku, and even Iwazaki Jun from the Polar Star Dormitory, what Xia Yu saw was not merely their cooking skills but the wisdom in their dishes!
Such wisdom lay in the flourish of their personal features and strengths!
Just like Iwazaki Jun’s smoked dishes where even the seasoning salt was smoked.
If one shifted their perspective like this, why couldn’t he apply "Bursting Flame" and "Spices Inequality" to cooking "Dragon Roll Fish Fin Sausage"?
The more he thought about it, the harder it was for Xia Yu to contain his excitement, immediately allocating the remaining five Talent Points he had from completing the two-star restaurant challenge to "Spices Inequality"!
"Let’s do this!"
A sudden murmur startled Eriina and Hizaki in the tea pavilion.
Meow.
A slightly puzzled meow came from the roof, and the stray cat, peeking out its head and seeing strangers in the pavilion, quickly scampered away.
"Eriina, Hizaki, please stay a bit longer, give me some time, and I’ll treat you to a new dish—" Xia Yu stood up with a smile, strode back to the kitchen and began to bustle.
...
Night fell deeper.
Lights radiated from Xia’s cuisine shop.
Across the street, the former antique toy store had now become the observation base for the "Gourmet Society" watching over Xia’s restaurant.
"It’s too conspicuous!"
Lancelot fixated on the small shop lit up along the main street, his brows deeply furrowed.
Nowadays, only a few old stores were still holding on in the shopping district, like Morioka’s Sen Tian Pastry Shop and Xia’s cuisine shop.
"Team leader, I think the Defense Bureau of IGO’s Neon Department must already be aware of our activities in this area," a member of the ’Gourmet Society’ whispered from behind.
"Shh!" Lancelot’s pupils suddenly constricted, taking cover beside the window; with the corner of his eye, he glanced at a red sports car slowly pulling up in front of Xia’s shop, after which a woman dressed in a black tight suit, fully resembling a detective, stepped out of the car and entered the shop directly.
"It seems our plan needs to change..."
Lancelot pondered briefly, then turned to the intelligence officer behind him and whispered in his ear, "Just do as I said!"
