Reborn in Japan as a Chef God -
Chapter 102: Show Yourself
Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Show Yourself
Each person cooking a signature dish?
Xia Yu was surprised, he hadn’t anticipated Dojima Yin to say that.
The other party was not only a top-tier special-grade chef but also an idol for all the students at Far Moon, a ’living legend.’ Eating a dish personally prepared by him was undoubtedly a significant honor.
Furthermore, not everyone had the confidence to present their own work on the same table as that of a special-grade chef. Comparisons in cooking only magnified the flaws in one’s dish when showcased alongside the finest. Xia Yu always felt like he was falling into some sort of calculation.
Ding.
What he didn’t expect was the system suddenly jumping in to fan the flames at this moment:
"System: New task acquired [Flame Cuisine Hospitality]."
"Hint: Just mastered the fifth glowing dish? Actually, you’ve been researching it for days in the Chef God Space. Show your results to bring this feast to a perfect conclusion for both host and guests."
"Reward: ’Comprehension Crystal’ *1."
This was the second task Xia Yu received today while touring Far Moon, quite to his surprise, especially the reward section, which was not some kitchenware, recipe, or Fame Points, but a mysterious consumable item.
The system provided details on the item:
"[Comprehension Crystal]: A one-time consumable item that, upon use, allows you to recall dishes you’ve tasted in the past hour and compile detailed information in your mind with a small chance to learn a recipe or technique."
Thump thump!
Seeing the item details, Xia Yu’s heart immediately raced.
He remembered the last consumable item he used, called the [Copy Crystal], and this item’s effects seemed incredibly similar.
One focused on replication and reproduction, while the other was on comprehension and learning.
The thought of peeking into the culinary skills of special-grade chefs, with a chance to learn from them, excited Xia Yu immensely. He had to seize this opportunity!
He carefully read the task’s text once again.
It was clear that the task required him to create a glowing version of "Flame-roasted Suckling Pig." Frankly, this was quite a challenge for Xia Yu. Even if he included the time spent researching in the Chef God Space, he had only studied the recipe for a few days, without any successful glowing examples so far.
But challenges were what fueled him. The system wouldn’t hand him a task for no reason!
Xia Yu readily agreed to Dojima Yin’s proposal but added a condition at the end:
"Mr. Dojima, I hope you will use your ’Chef’s Soul’ in that dish to showcase your genuine culinary skills!"
He emphasized the term ’Chef’s Soul.’
"Chef’s Soul? Haha, that’s only natural!"
Dojima Yin stood up, went outside to make a phone call, evidently to have someone prepare the ingredients.
Tiqie Helinai and Niho Fuyuka looked at Xia Yu with strange eyes, clearly not expecting him to agree so straightforwardly, even encouraging a special-grade chef to display their true skills. In a way, wasn’t that the ignorance of fearlessness?
"What ingredients do you need, just say the word." Tiqie Xianzuowen looked at Xia Yu, his expression as calm as a still pool of water. "If they’re not in the estate’s storehouse, I’ll have Far Moon’s logistics deliver them."
"One live cow, one live pig."
Xia Yu wasn’t the least bit polite, speaking up: "The live cow doesn’t matter, although a buffalo would be better. As for the live pig, it should be a lean suckling pig, weighing between ten to twenty pounds!"
Before Tiqie Xianzuowen could give instructions, Niho Fuyuka had already risen and left her seat.
"He’s making roasted suckling pig?" Tiqie Helinai sat down, gently biting her thumbnail, her mind racing, "But if it’s roasted suckling pig, why does he need a live cow?"
"Two dishes?"
Her gaze subtly shifted to Xia Yu, only for him to suddenly remember something and say, "Oh right, I also need some special kitchenware."
"Firstly, a kitchen knife at least one meter long, weighing over 5 pounds. Then a large oven, iron chains, two to three fingers thick will do, and as much charcoal as possible..."
These words only added to the confusion among the people in the teahouse.
"What exactly are you going to do?" Tiqie Helinai finally couldn’t help but speak up, looking at him with a complex gaze.
"You’ll understand once I’m done!" Xia Yu casually replied, not paying any more attention to his surroundings, sitting cross-legged, closing his eyes as if resting, but actually secretly communicating with the Chef God Space, urgently researching the recipe.
A quarter hour later, Xia Yu was woken up by Niho Fuyuka.
He exited the Chef God Space and walked outside the teahouse, finding the kitchenware and ingredients already prepared in the courtyard.
The live cow was a large buffalo kept in a cage.
The ten-pound black suckling pig was in another small cage.
A large oven the size of a bed was set up in the open area of the courtyard, with several large burlap sacks piled beside it, undoubtedly filled with charcoal.
Xia Yu didn’t even look at the ingredients, instead reaching into the sack for a piece of charcoal, examining it closely, and couldn’t help but exclaim, "Excellent charcoal—!"
What came next required flame cooking and charcoal was the energy source for cooking. It was crucial.
Excellent charcoal was a must, and the charcoal provided by Far Moon was jet black, with a hardness similar to metal, covered in white ash. This type of charcoal, known as white coal, had a high carbon content, offering not just high temperatures, but long burn durations, making it perfect for charcoal grill cooking.
"Xingping, come help—"
Xia Yu called to Xingping Chuangzhen inside the teahouse.
Since the Far Moon Commander had instructed people to arrange for the ingredients and kitchenware here, the meaning was clear enough. Xia Yu wasn’t the reserved type, so he straightforwardly demonstrated his culinary skills.
Xingping Chuangzhen scratched his head and approached, without Xia Yu saying a word, pointed to the mountain-like pile of burlap sacks, "Help me pour the charcoal into the charcoal furnace."
With that said, he himself picked up a sack, at least several dozen pounds of white coal, and poured it all into the charcoal furnace, climbing up the furnace, evenly spreading the charcoal in a layer.
He turned to start the fire, but upon looking back, he saw Xingping Chuangzhen struggling to move one sack, barely able to carry or lift it, even dragging it was a challenge. Clearly, physical labor was not the Food Duel Jiao’s specialty. Seeing this, Xia Yu simply hoisted the sack onto his shoulder without breaking a sweat and waved Xingping Chuangzhen off to help start the fire.
As everyone watched his busy figure, their gazes transformed.
"Monster!" Tiqie Helinai murmured softly.
"What’s with his physique?!" Niho Fuyuka covered her mouth, to others what seemed normal strength work for Xia Yu was undeniably at a powerhouse level in the eyes of other high school peers.
Sen Tian Makoto tilted her head, eyes filled with surprise, feeling like her childhood friend suddenly became a stranger.
Tiqie Xianzuowen and Liangzi Liya remained seated in the teahouse, exchanging a glance, yet their amazement was just beginning.
Start the fire, make the charcoal.
Letting the furnace’s layers of thick charcoal burn for now, after all, the charcoal fire wasn’t hot enough yet.
Additionally, he instructed the household servants to boil hot water in the kitchen. Xia Yu opened the cage, first pulling out the ten-pound black lean suckling pig, its limbs bound, squealing unaware that it would soon become a delicacy on the dining table.
Rather than hastily butchering, Xia Yu had Xingping Chuangzhen fetch a basin of clean water, placing the suckling pig on the courtyard floor lined with a sheet of white membrane paper, washing it thoroughly to remove all impurities.
This step of washing was often overlooked; if a live pig didn’t receive a clean shower, the subsequent slaughtering would affect the meat quality.
With glowing cuisine, every step in the ingredient preparation process had to be meticulously attended to, with no detail overlooked. This was the experience Xia Yu had gained since learning the fifth glowing recipe.
