Chapter 492: Chapter 24 Mutated Materials! [Request for Subscription]_2
Oluks was not slow in implementing his plans. The armed force of about a thousand people that he had assembled was proving immensely useful. Under their leadership, the entire convoy was virtually impossible to challenge. Even if such a challenge did arise, it would not stand a chance against Jia Yan. Therefore, due to the leadership of this armed group, things progressed smoothly!
"Sir... All the wealth you have requested has been confiscated clearly. Should we exchange the stolen items according to the list you provided?" Oluks asked, grovelling before the Big Mosquito, wondering when he started taking this subservience stance when talking to Jia Yan.
Jia Yan gazed at Oluks, a large frog trembling and grovelling at his feet. Unnamed brilliance subtly gleamed in his compound eyes.
Following that, he issued a satisfied voice, "Yes, you may negotiate deals with merchants and powerful entities according to the ratios I provided. Ultimately, the benefits you can glean depend on your abilities. If you can satisfy me this time, I will officially grant you the identity you desired in the convoy..."
"Thank you, Lord Assassin!" Upon hearing this, Oluks thanked him profusely, bowing low to show his gratitude.
"However!" Jia Yan continued, his tone becoming menacing:" Remember who gave you all you have. Don’t dare to betray me. If you do, don’t blame me for being ruthless."
Oluks responded immediately, breaking out in a cold sweat upon hearing Jia Yan’s warning.
Because he had handled vast sums of money of late, his power steadily growing, he couldn’t resist taking a few items he fancied when confiscating wealth. Yet, his dishonesty was seen through by Jia Yan direclty.
Jia Yan’s strength and elusive nature had always been an enigma to Oluks. Now, under the guise of motivation, Jia Yan’s veiled warning disconcerted the guilty Oluks.
While internally resolving to return the stolen goods to the storeroom, he outwardly showed deference in response. Oluks then left the Elderwood where Jia Yan resided.
Jia Yan merely looked on as the convoy moved off into the distance. Not three days had passed on this planet - a little over a day on Earth - since what was once a neon-lit small city was now in decay. The sandy wind rustled the frail remains of the demolished buildings, adding further to the melancholic atmosphere.
A few alien children were frolicking in the street. Among them was Lulu.
The number of clothes Lulu previously wore had apparently diminished. Now she was only clad in torn, ill-fitting children’s clothes, playing with other alien children.
Jia Yan felt a pang in his heart.
He was well aware of his actions. When Oluks specifically asked about Lulu’s particular situation not long ago, Jia Yan responded to treat her the same as others. Unexpectedly, they even took away Lulu’s clothing for sale.
He averted his gaze. As the rabbit-eared little girl and the diminutive aliens played and laughed, their happiness sounded to him like mockery...
"I’m not wrong in my actions. Whatever they have given up, I can double or even quadruple in return later."
Jia Yan attempted to justify his actions.
As to whether he would actually return their belongings in future, Jia Yan himself had no confidence.
"I’ve read in these books brought over by Oluks before: Evolutionary Creatures are a species of greedy life forms. They are a danger to all civilizations as every individual of their species is greedy. They would stop at nothing for their own evolution."
"Am I becoming like that?" Jia Yan let out a wry smile.
The convoy in Yellow Continent had descended into a muted hush; except for the non-stop exchange of merchandise. And because of recent confrontations, the surrounding powers were on alert. However, given the ’Earth Team’s’ recent activities, they seemed to be in a stable period. None showed much ambition for further aggression but on the contraty were industriously liquidating their own assets for more funds!
Many surrounding powers speculated that the apparent leader of the so-called Earth Team was a profiteer who would leave once he’d amassed substantial wealth. Wasn’t it obvious from the way he kept selling goods that the convoy depended on for survival?
Even some powerful weapons were sold, stirring considerable envy among a few powers keen on second-hand goods. Some of these items, left from the Original Sorin Fleet, were so rare that they were almost impossible to purchase in Gold Desert anyway!
This sale brought in a massive sum of money, while their ’kill the goose that lays the golden eggs’-like behaviour put the other powers at ease. If their adversaries were merely here to make a quick fortune and leave, as long as they laid low for a while, they could escape potential lootings!
Not only did Jia Yan’s actions reassure smaller powers, but they also made the ’Super Powers’,—even the ones who had intended to strike after their threat a few days ago—hesitate!
