Chapter 996: Chapter 996: A Long Exhausting Day
The Marquess and his family visibly brightened at this news.
"Yes, a treatment was already found. However, they needed to do more experiments on various plants and how effective they would be, along with the proper amount to be used. Thus, we won’t announce it yet until we are sure it will be effective for most, if not all, of the crops and flora affected. So this will remain among us for now," Alwin clarified.
"Yes, Your Eminence. We will not inform others about it yet. We are already overwhelmed that there is already a treatment," Marquess Sibruh said with a brighter look in his eyes.
Having a better future to look forward to gave them hope.
After all, having a treatment meant the control methods they were doing now would no longer be necessary.
The continuous burning was difficult to do, and although the smoke from it was already directed with magic to only head upwards, it was still disheartening to see the burning going on.
It was like the telltale sign that their suffering was not over yet.
If the burning is finally stopped once the treatment works, even if there’s still a lockdown, then at least, the people and everyone else in the afflicted territories will no longer feel as depressed and frustrated.
"But what was their goal in spreading the disease? To cause a food shortage? Or famine?" One of Marquess Sibruh’s siblings asked.
"Yes, that’s one reason," Alwin agreed. "They wanted to cause food shortages and later on famine.
With what the other spies we caught were doing, when we caught them, it was clear they were trying to sow discord by causing internal strife.
They intentionally created the chaos here, and with the butler having learned about the Former Marquess’ personality, they knew exactly what would work and what wouldn’t.
The rebellion may have been Eugene Hamel’s scheme, but they let him do it without interfering with it since it helps their cause.
The collective anger of the people during mass gatherings was intentionally triggered by the spies.
They intentionally screamed things that would infuriate the people and make them go against authority. They were present during His and Her Majesty’s speeches. We caught them while Her Majesty was talking to the people."
Alwin revealed some information about the spies they caught and held back on the information about how, specifically.
"I see... It must be why, no matter what we say, mass gatherings addressing the people always end up negatively..." Marquess Sibruh nodded his head.
He had also experienced the frustration of not being listened to, no matter what he said to the people, because things always turned negative.
He finally understood why the people were much better when talking to them individually or in small groups than when gathered in a large crowd.
[I was rather amazed how things became more peaceful after Her Majesty arrived. The solutions she presented must have greatly helped since they gave hope to the people. But catching the spies must have also greatly contributed since the people were finally truly listening instead of just screaming things out in fury...]
The Marquess had been observing things silently during Arabella’s arrival and before it, so he had noticed the changes.
Learning about the presence of spies who triggered chaos while maximizing the problems already present here helped the Marquess understand why things escalated so quickly in the territory.
Everything had been plotted and set up by the still unknown enemy who had sent the spies.
"We hope that with this information, you will be more vigilant in the events here in Sibruh and be watchful of possible outsiders. Ensure that the people you assign to the watchtowers are people you can trust not to slack on their job," Alwin said.
"Yes, Your Eminence. We will be as vigilant as we can ever be. Our deepest gratitude for giving us all this information," the Marquess bowed to Alwin.
"Our deepest gratitude to Your Majesties," he also bowed to Arabella and Ferdinand.
The entire Sibruh Family followed suit.
With this, they had caught up with the information they needed the ruling household needed to be aware of.
During the whole discussion, none of the Sibruh family had traitorous thoughts against Valeria.
Even Ferdinand did not notice anything amiss among their actions and behavior.
None of them seemed to be working with the spies either, so it was a great relief.
They then discussed all the projects that would be implemented soon before they finally ended the meeting.
Arabella and Ferdinand then returned to the Imperial Palace to finally rest.
It was a long, exhausting day.
"You should go and rest, Alwin. Alvis would return here if you push yourself again," Ferdinand said as he dismissed Alwin.
[I can still work.] Alwin thought.
But he obediently returned to the Magic Tower when it was Ferdinand who told him to rest.
When it was Arabella who told him to rest, he still did some work. He truly had a bias about whom he listened to.
"Are you alright?"
This was the first question Ferdinand asked her when they were alone.
He was still worried because of how she looked before the meeting with the family of the involved nobles in the rebellion.
[Even when she, herself, is already pushing herself, she still manages to be considerate to others.] Ferdinand thought.
He meant when Arabella asked the Marquess if he would rather have the meeting today or later.
"I’m fine," Arabella smiled at her husband.
She did feel tired even when Alwin did most of the talking during the meetings.
Still, she was in consecutive meetings today.
Her schedule was fully packed, and the rest of the afternoon was about stressful matters.
It must be why she felt exhausted after.
"Then, what would you like first, a bath or dinner?" Ferdinand inquired.
It was already dark since their meetings took long.
"Hmm... I think it’s better to eat first," Arabella replied.
She knew she might fall asleep after a bath, so she chose to eat since Ferdinand was here.
Arabella wanted to eat with Ferdinand while he was here.
