Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 979: Talking It Out
Chapter 979: Chapter 979: Talking It Out
’So he was just worried but got distracted?!!’
Arabella blinked twice when she realized she had misunderstood him.
Ferdinand simply got distracted because of her sleeping dress and asked a different question than what he intended.
Yet, she thought he was ready to scold her and was waiting for her to tell him everything they did in Sibruh.
Not wanting to get scolded, she talked to him formally as the Empress and not as his wife.
’I went and avoided him! I even slept like a log even after what I did!’
"Oh my goodness!!! I’m so sorry, Ferdinand! I’m sorry!"
Arabella hugged him tightly.
"You’re not angry at me for asking to speak with you at night, but asking about Sibruh instead?" Ferdinand was also confused.
"I’m not angry. I thought you were angry at me, which was why you brought it up.
And I didn’t want to fight or get scolded since I felt so tired...
So I talked to you formally and quickly escaped under the sheets." Arabella admitted.
’He must have felt terrible after what I did!’
"Pfft... Hahaha..."
Arabella blinked twice when Ferdinand chuckled.
"It seems we both worried for nothing.
I already know you must have been exhausted, so I wanted to see if you were alright.
I wasn’t set on scolding you or anything.
I just wanted to know that you were alright.
That was all it was.
It was my mistake for asking something else.
Ah, but it did feel terrible when you spoke to me so coldly.
It’s scary when you treat me like we’re not husband and wife.
It felt like we were strangers once again.
Please don’t talk to me in that manner again when it’s just the two of us," Ferdinand petted her hair.
Arabella felt even guiltier as the look in Ferdinand’s eyes changed slightly when he recalled it.
"Yes, I’m so sorry!
I won’t do it again!
I even slept so soundly after what I did!"
"It’s alright now," Ferdinand smiled and kissed her forehead.
"Really?" Arabella inquired again.
"Yes, I’m just glad you’re talking to me again.
I came here after you didn’t reply because I thought I angered you when you were already too tired.
When I arrived, you were already sleeping soundly.
It was because of teleporting so many times in a day.
It’s fine for the long-lived races, especially for someone like Alwin who’s so used to teleportation.
But your body is not used to teleporting so many times in a single day.
It was why you fell asleep immediately upon lying down," Ferdinand explained.
"Ah, so that was it. I was wondering why I felt more exhausted than usual..."
Arabella thought about it, and yesterday was indeed the first time she teleported so many times in a single day.
After walking from one area to another, they teleported to another where there were people living.
And they usually went to a high place with a good view first, before once again teleporting to where people were gathered most.
Then they moved to the next area through teleportation again.
Arabella did not feel dizzy or anything, which was why she thought it was alright.
She even did a lot of paperwork after.
It must have added to her exhaustion, which was why she was already sleepy and not in the best mood when Ferdinand asked to speak with her.
She thought he would be her comfort at such a time, so when she thought she would get scolded, she felt so disappointed.
She felt so much better now after a good rest.
And Ferdinand clarified things, too.
Arabella was so relieved that they had made up now without having to fight about it.
Being able to speak with others honestly like this felt so nice.
"Was there something else you wanted to talk about last night?
After repeating the scene in my head so many times, I realized that you looked like you wanted to talk about something else.
But I didn’t notice immediately, and you spoke formally after that," Ferdinand said, and Arabella looked away.
"N-nothing! Nothing at all," she buried her face in his chest.
Arabella suddenly felt embarrassed to say she felt disappointed he didn’t say he missed her first. Or say something sweet or ask about her first, and not about work.
Ferdinand pulled away a bit to get a look at her.
[Her face and ears are red.]
Arabella quickly hid her face again.
[This look... She seems to be embarrassed about something... She looks so adorable like this, but it makes me even more curious what it was about.]
"What is it?
What did you want to speak about?
Can you tell me?
I can’t read your mind, so please tell me."
Ferdinand cupped her face so she wouldn’t avoid looking at him.
Arabella still looked away, though, and when he tilted her face so she would meet his gaze, she closed her eyes instead and covered her face with her hands.
"..."
[Why doesn’t she want to tell me? It must be something important for her to become so cold when I didn’t get it.]
Arabella felt even more embarrassed since it’s nothing major at all.
"Forget about it. It’s nothing much," Arabella said.
"How can it be nothing much when you were so disappointed?
I wish I could hear your thoughts, too.
It’s unfair that I can’t..." Ferdinand complained all of a sudden.
Arabella peeked at his face, and he looked really concerned about it.
She must tell him before he worries even more.
"Uhm, it’s just...
I was looking forward to speaking with you after an exhausting day.
I thought I could finally rest and treat myself.
I thought I would hear you being sweet and all that...
But you asked about Sibruh instead, so I felt disappointed..."
Arabella admitted with a reddened face.
"!!!"
Ferdinand was wide-eyed when she explained.
"I’m sorry! I swear that’s not what I’m supposed to ask!"
"I know. It’s alright now. I understood after you explained. I misunderstood your intention," Arabella assured him.
"Really?"
It was Ferdinand’s turn to worry.
"Yes."
Arabella smiled and hugged him.
Ferdinand sighed in relief and hugged her back.
