Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress
Chapter 977: A Call with Ferdinand

Chapter 977: Chapter 977: A Call with Ferdinand

Arabella excitedly returned inside her bedroom with the magic tool.

She settled the box on her bedside table.

Before she could even open it, she heard Ferdinand’s voice.

"Arabella?"

"Just a second," Arabella said and finally opened the box.

She carefully brought out the spherical magic communication tool and saw Ferdinand already waiting for her.

Just seeing his face made her smile.

It was such a long tiring day and being able to see him and hear his voice before sleeping was a treat.

"Why are you still awake?" Ferdinand asked without saying anything first.

Arabella pouted and said, "Says someone who sends a communication device to me at this hour."

"I was hoping you were already asleep and won’t hear him knock," Ferdinand said, but looked away.

Arabella’s smile returned when she saw the tip of his ears were red.

He knew she would still be awake at this hour.

After all, she usually sleeps by midnight or an hour before.

"Then, you weren’t really planning on speaking with me?"

She asked knowing he wanted to speak with her now for him to send a communication device instead of a letter.

"I, I did..." Ferdinand smiled.

Seeing it made her smile back before she even knew it.

She wished she could kiss him right now.

"Then, what did you want to say?" Arabella said in a softer voice.

"Are you not yet sleepy?" Ferdinand inquired first.

Arabella wanted to speak with him first so she said, "Not yet."

"Then, how was your visit in Sibruh today?" Ferdinand asked.

’Oh, it was about work...’ Arabella thought he simply missed her.

Expecting is quite the cruel thing.

’Are we supposed to talk about work right now?’

Arabella felt like she no longer had the energy for it.

’Or is there something else?’

"!!!"

Arabella was wide-eyed when she realized she forgot she deviated from the original plan without telling Ferdinand.

She got too excited to see and speak with him that she forgot all about it.

"We did as planned yesterday. Today as well. But after, we roamed around Sibruh..." Arabella trailed off.

"What for?" Ferdinand asked next.

Arabella glanced at him and gulped.

Was he giving her a chance to explain herself before he asks Rendell and Alwin?

Or did he already ask them?

"Didn’t they already report to you?" Arabella said in a low voice.

She could not help the feeling of disappointment that washed over her when she realized he did not call her simply because he wanted to see her or speak with her.

It was because she did not follow the plan they agreed upon. That she should not go far away from the castle. Especially not without all the guards assigned to her.

Arabella did already warn him that she might not stick to their agreement depending on the circumstances.

She understood Ferdinand had the right to get angry about it.

She already knew he might get angry when he learns about it and they might even fight about it.

It just felt terrible to have her expectations crushed after it was raised.

She thought they would just talk about light headed things since she was in her room.

He was the one who said they should avoid talking about work matters and heavy things in her room.

He was the one who said that as much as possible, he wanted their time alone here just for their love.

Perhaps it was why she thought they would talk about it when they saw each other in person.

Not right now when she was ready to go to bed and was speaking with him while sitting on her bed in her sleeping clothes.

Was it selfish of her to feel this way after breaking their agreement?

"Not yet," Ferdinand replied.

Arabella told herself she should be happy that he decided to speak with her first before asking Alwin, Rendell, and Riley for their reports.

Yet, she could not bring herself to a better mood.

Since he already asked about it, Arabella went to her Empress mode and reported in detail what happened in Sibruh the previous day and today.

She did not leave a single event secret except for her discussion with Alwin while they were having tea at the rocky hill.

It was easier to talk and report to Ferdinand in this mode when they’re purely speaking about work.

She did not need to doubt to involve his or her feelings and simply think and act as the Empress of Valeria.

And Arabella did so.

This way, even if she was not in a good mood, she could speak with Ferdinand without getting emotional. Rather, she did not need any emotion at all. She only needs to be the Empress.

And she did not need to apologize for breaking her word to an agreement they made as husband and wife.

Because as the Empress of Valeria, what she did was perfectly fine. It was efficient and saved them a lot of time and resources.

It was not without regard to her safety either since she had Alwin with her.

Thus, in this mode, Ferdinand cannot scold her and tell her what she did was wrong or harsh. Because in this mode, it was only right for the best interest of the Empire.

Of course, as Ferdinand’s wife and mate, it was a different matter.

But Arabella did not want to be scolded today after a long day of work. What she wanted was comfort from her husband.

Yet, instead, he asked her about what happened in Sibruh. Thus, she answered as the Empress.

Was it wrong of her? Was it rude to her husband?

Maybe.

But she was too tired to think about it.

She was not ready for a fight with him tonight.

Can’t they just be peaceful tonight?

"...This was all that we did in Sibruh, Your Majesty," Arabella concluded emotionlessly.

"I see... Y-you did well..." Ferdinand trailed off.

Of course, she did well.

As the Empress she did.

Thus, Ferdinand, as the Emperor, could not scold her in this mode either since none of what she did was wrong as the Empress.
