Chapter 946: Chapter 946: Inspired

Nadia paused to let her words sink in and let the people process the severity of what happened.

"But I was saved by Her Majesty.

I could finally eat three meals a day and even have snacks in between, all for free and made by the best chefs in the Imperial Palace.

It was a life I never thought I could have after what Safiro went through.

But it all became possible because of His and Her Majesty.

I cannot help you with food or monetary matters.

However, as Her Majesty’s assistant, I will also do everything I can to help in whatever way possible.

I will read to you the other half of the territories that had also pledged their help..."

"She was the Chief’s daughter who became Her Majesty’s assistant? She’s the reason she visited Safiro..."

"So it’s not just rumors that a barren land became lush with greenery again after His and Her Majesty visited?!!"

The people were astounded as they heard it from Nadia herself.

They began to regret their actions against the Imperial Knights and magicians.

Nadia read the other half of the list that Odette did not read.

This arrangement was made since the two felt embarrassed that they were the only ones who could not offer any help.

After all, even Cordelia, the County that Ivan came from, had pledged some help which Count Cordelia himself would express.

"I am the Count of Cordelia.

Ivan Meyer, Her Majesty’s assistant, hails from my territory.

We also pledge 10% of our produce to the affected territories.

From today onwards, I will also be joining the researchers here as requested by the Department of Agriculture’s Research Bureau," Count Cordelia said.

After hearing from Ivan that his mentor was Count Cordelia, the researchers wanted him with them.

Count Cordelia expressed that Ivan had long surpassed him, but if they still wanted him there, he was willing to help in any way he could in their research.

The researchers insisted they wanted him anyway, thus, the Head of the Research Bureau convinced him to join them.

Thus, the Count teleported with them today.

Just as Count Cordelia finished speaking, Ivan appeared out of nowhere.

He almost lost his footing due to suddenly getting teleported in front of so many people, but he quickly composed himself.

"Greetings to Her Imperial Majesty. My deepest apologies for not greeting you upon arrival," Ivan bowed.

He was wearing goggles, a laboratory gown, and gloves.

His eyes had dark circles, and his skin was pale. It was easy to tell he barely had any sleep the past few days or had gone out in the sun.

His hair was tied neatly, though.

She heard from his thoughts that one of his fellow researchers fixed his messy hair first before allowing him to rush to meet her.

The researchers were busy, so Arabella was not supposed to meet with Ivan and just let him focus on his research.

However, it seems he rushed here when he heard her voice.

His escort magician teleported him here.

"It’s all right.

I intentionally did not have you informed, so you can focus on your research.

It’s good to see you again, Ivan.

You’re right on time, everyone has just finished introducing themselves.

Why won’t you introduce yourself, too?" Arabella smiled.

Ivan glanced at all the people outside the castle and gulped nervously.

However, he did not back down.

[I heard what they said. I’ll just share what I can too...]

"I am Ivan Meyer, assistant to Her Majesty.

Some of you must have seen me walking around gathering pests and infected plants.

I have also spoken with some of you as I walked around the territory," Ivan said.

"He is also an assistant to Her Majesty?!!"

"I thought he was just a commoner like us. He talked to me a few days ago..."

"He bought bread from me last time."

"He had coffee with him as we talked about the lockdown."

"He went to my farm two weeks ago..."

A lot of the locals recognized Ivan.

Arabella learned from Ivan’s thoughts that he had dressed in commoner attire borrowed from one of the gardeners in the castle.

Thus, the people had openly talked with him, thinking that he was one of them.

It made gathering the honest thoughts of the people and the actual situation much easier, which was one of the sources of the issues Ivan reported to her.

"I understand why you are surprised.

I am indeed a commoner.

I come from a family of farmers in Cordelia.

I have helped on the farm since I was a child and learned to write by writing on mud using sticks until my parents managed to afford bits of paper.

The book I first read was something we only picked up by accident.

I read in all my spare time until I came across agricultural research by Count Cordelia.

It sparked my interest, and since then began all sorts of experiments to help improve my parents’ farm.

The Count noticed me and allowed access to more of his books, and he became my mentor.

We conducted a lot of research together.

Until I dared to dream for more and decided to become a Civil Servant in Riva.

It was not easy, but I became one.

And a few months ago, I thought I should just return home unsuccessful.

But Her Majesty believed in me and hired me as one of her assistants.

Several weeks ago, upon learning about the plant disease here, Her Majesty asked me to head here as one of the researchers.

As Her Majesty’s assistant and as a researcher, I also promise to do my best to help in whatever way I can.

What I can offer you is my knowledge and experience in agricultural research and experiments.

Like my colleagues, I also assure that Her Majesty keeps her word.

I also attest to Lady Nadia’s words as I am a witness to the miraculous change His and Her Majesty brought on to Safiro," Ivan said.

"Is this true?! Then... can my children also become a Civil Servant?"

"Can I also become a Civil Servant if I study enough?"
