Chapter 937: What Sibruh Was Like
Chapter 937: Chapter 937: What Sibruh Was Like
The newly-assigned Marquess Sibruh bowed and led the greeting. Everyone else followed suit.
[His Majesty had given stern instructions to ensure Her Majesty’s stay here was safe and peaceful.
We must not disappoint him.
It’s a widely spread rumor that His Majesty cherishes Her Majesty very much.
It was clear in his words and actions as well, especially with all the instructions he gave us.]
Marquess Sibruh was careful to ensure Arabella was treated as well as possible, as Ferdinand had instructed them.
Ferdinand had been here the past few days, resolving the conflict here as much as he could and preparing them for her visit.
However, he was not here now since he also needed to conduct his rounds in all the other locked-down territories.
He wanted to be with Arabella in all her visits, but Arabella insisted they do their work separately.
If they stayed together all the time, they would be able to do less work.
Thus, she wanted them to continue working without disturbing each other.
Her safety was guaranteed with Rendell and Alwin with her, after all.
Likewise, most of her assistants had knight training.
And in case of danger, she could simply be teleported back to the Imperial Palace or the Magic Tower immediately.
Not that someone without anti-magic weapons would be able to hurt her now.
Ferdinand and Alwin had both cast their protection spells and barriers on her so unless an anti-magic weapon was used, she could not be hurt by attacks with weapons.
Any physical attack that was something else would be taken care of by Rendell.
Blanca was also with them and could fly off with her in case Alwin was unable to teleport them for whatever reason.
"Welcome to Sibruh, Your Majesty. Please allow me to give you a tour of our humble castle," Marquess Sibruh said nervously.
"Thank you," Arabella smiled, and walked with Rendell as her escort.
Marquess Sibruh gave all of them a tour of the castle until they reached the highest part.
Looking out at the view from afar, Sibruh was bordered by mountainous terrain on one side.
Meanwhile, on the other side were the Valerian territories.
Looking from above, it was clear that the Sibruh Castle was built as a stronghold since it was close to the borders.
It was not built with beauty in mind, but with safety as the priority.
The ancestors of Marquess Sibruh, who built it, had clearly ensured they could keep their people safe and maintain this stronghold.
Between Sibruh and the next kingdom was an empty land that could hardly be inhabited, so it was maintained as a vacant place that neither the nearby kingdom nor Sibruh occupied.
However, it cannot be truly said to be empty. It was dangerous, so no one occupied it, but it was perfect for bandits and criminals who had been kicked out of their kingdom.
It became a place where hoodlums gathered.
Sibruh remained safe from them since it was part of Valeria.
However, without Valeria’s reputation, bandits would have frequented Sibruh despite the terrain they must go through before coming here.
This was one of the reasons why Sibruh accepted becoming a part of Valeria.
{Alwin, can you please enhance my eyesight?}
{Sure.}
Alwin used a spell for her eyes, and Arabella was able to see farther places more clearly.
With this, even from the balcony of the castle, she could survey around Sibruh.
She checked the walls first, and Ferdinand was right.
The walls of Sibruh needed repairs.
And since they were sure someone had infiltrated Sibruh and introduced the pests and plant disease, then the walls indeed needed to be higher.
All entry and exit points must have new and sturdier gates as well.
The terrain on the nearby lands may not be good, but who knows if they also had someone like Alwin who could teleport a lot of people at once.
It was better to be careful.
The former Marquess Sibruh had relaxed because no one had spent money to cross the dangerous lands between them so far.
However, if someone was determined to ruin Valeria at all costs, it would not be too hard for someone to hire capable people to cross the lands or teleport right in front of Sibruh’s gates and attack them.
Higher towers for watching the said lands were also needed to ensure they were not the ones who were watched instead.
The roads and pavements were not in good condition either. They needed repairs and maintenance.
As for some areas near the farmlands, there were only stone paths or none at all. Just a trail where everyone walked. News ones needed to be made.
There needs to be a better and secure irrigation system as well to lessen the burden on the farmers having to carry water from one point to another just to water their plants
As for the buildings in Sibruh, it was also clear how the people had gone through a lot. Even some noble households’ abodes did not look too well.
The commoner’s dwelling place was getting old as well and needed to be rebuilt.
Building housing for the poor who cannot afford to maintain their homes might also be useful to help ease the frustration here.
As for the farmlands, all of it was now empty and looked like a desert. Even the forests in Sibruh had mostly been cleared and burned as well.
All the plants had been burned due to the plant disease and pest infestation.
Even now, the burning was still ongoing on one side of the Marquessate near the forest.
There was still ash falling all over the place.
Even through the distance, Arabella still picked up the smell of burning leaves and trees.
It was no wonder that the people here were the most chaotic and frustrated.
With Sibruh looking like this as winter approached, it was understandable why the people’s fears were at their peak.
Arabella looked around the entry and exit points of the Sibruh Castle, and there were Imperial Knights everywhere.
Ferdinand had assigned his knights to guard the castle since the people here staged a revolt just a few days ago.
