Chapter 930: Chapter 930: Getting More Anxious with Doing Nothing
"I already slept for too long. I’d rather not stay in my room for too long again," Alwin refused to stay put.
However, due to his elders’ worries, Alwin had the rest of the day off and had tea time with Dimo, Blanca, and Alvis in the garden.
Alwin could still not stay put, though, and visited Arabella in her office while his elders were busy.
"Your assistants seem to be busier than usual," Alwin commented.
He noticed that all her assistants were out at the moment and their tables were piled up with a lot of paperwork.
"Alwin, shouldn’t you be resting? Why are you here?"
Arabella frowned as he entered.
For once, he used the door like a normal person instead of simply teleporting into her office.
"I already caught up with Dimo and Blanca. I spoke with my Uncle, too. I have nothing else to do since Riley refuses to let me do my work until tomorrow," Alwin explained.
He was fine with calling Alvis his uncle when he was not around.
"Then why not go and sleep in your room and rest so you can work tomorrow?" Arabella suggested.
"I’m not a human. I came here in my body so I can work for a long time without sleep. I’m getting anxious about not getting updated on what’s going on. All Blanca and Uncle told me was that the war was over and everything had been resolved. And that there were no other major problems at the moment. But I know they’re holding back something," Alwin complained.
"So you came here to make me cough up the truth?" Arabella raised her brows.
"Of course. Aren’t we allies? You should update me on what’s going on. Just knowing the fact that I slept for more than a week is making me restless."
Alwin used their agreement to make her speak.
"You do understand that everyone is not telling you problems right now, since you would go back to working immediately. They wanted you to relax and rest before diving into work once again," Arabella pointed out.
"I know. But it’s making me more anxious not knowing what’s going on. Just tell me the truth already."
Alwin seated himself on the chair in front of her table and used magic so she won’t be able to touch all the work on her table.
"Alwin, do you think they’re the only ones worried about you? I visited you every single day as well. You clearly overworked yourself, and it led to what happened. If we are to ensure our long-term goals are achieved, you must rest properly. Not just physically, but everything else as well. You should relax once in a while and destress yourself," Arabella pointed out.
"I wanted to. But Riley and Uncle won’t even allow me in my laboratory. My way of relaxation is my experiments. I’m not the kind who rests by sleeping and doing nothing. I need to keep doing something. I get stressed with having nothing to do. Especially when I know it’s impossible for there to be no problems going on right now. And the more all of you keep secrets from me, the more I become anxious about the future. I came here hoping you understand because you know exactly why I’m this restless," Alwin voiced his frustration.
"Alright, alright. Calm down," Arabella sighed deeply.
She could feel his agitation with how his mana was fluctuating. She had been getting a better feel of these things lately.
Further, she indeed knew why he was so fearful of doing nothing.
After all, she felt the same.
With the tragedy of their past life, they knew of it, it was indeed hard to simply rest and do nothing.
They were both scared that a moment of being lax could lead to the ruined future they both knew.
Thus, they make up for it by working as hard as they can every single day.
Further, as an intellectual, Alwin had an extremely active mind. When it comes to matters about work and magic, his mind works so quickly that Arabella would often not be able to grasp or understand his thoughts.
Arabella had experienced this with Ivan as well which was why she allowed him to do work at his own pace and gave him the freedom to leave and do whatever he wanted after.
Just as Ivan would get bored to death if she made him stay in her office with no work to do, Alwin was the same.
They needed something to keep their minds going even if for other people, it may seem too much and stressful.
For them, doing nothing could be more stressful than doing a lot of work all at once.
"So, what happened? Why are your assistants gone? How’s the situation in Sibruh and the neighboring territories? Any other problems in Crux? Or perhaps the Court Sessions?"
Alwin bombarded her with questions all at once.
"One at a time," Arabella chided.
"Alright," Alwin nodded and seated himself like a behaved kid so she would start talking.
"First, the situation in Crux is progressing smoothly. The Knight Commander is taking care of the issues there. We might head there soon for the official announcement of making Crux a part of Valeria. The lady you healed is doing well, too. She and Princess Seraphina paid you a visit when you were asleep. They were overwhelmed to know the extent of risk you had gone to save her. They are immensely grateful, so I have sent a letter to Princess Seraphina that you have finally recovered."
"I see..." Alwin was relieved that the situation in Crux no longer escalated further.
He was also relieved that the person he saved did survive and was doing well.
"As for the Court Sessions, it had been tense lately since everyone is becoming increasingly curious about what was going on in Sibruh and all the locked-down territories.
We had promised to tell them once it was time, and they had been anticipating it every Court Session.
But since winter had begun in the northern territories, they were becoming more concerned.
I have discussed it with His Majesty, and we plan to tell them by tomorrow."
"T-tomorrow? Had there been developments with the research?" Alwin tilted his head.
