Chapter 929: Chapter 929: Highly Confidential

[What would she want to speak about? Is it why she kept glancing at me?]

Alwin was wary. He glanced at his Elders and at Arabella.

{Should I say no? She seems suspicious.}

{It should be fine. Just entertain what you can answer. She’s invested in your magical abilities. She’s amazed by this and your room’s security features.}

Arabella explained so Alwin won’t conclude Cassandra was up to something..

"Sure. What is it you’d like to ask? I will answer if I can," Alwin said after all his elders nodded.

"Will Your Eminence be enlisting with the temple?"

Cassandra inquired, knowing that the Pope had extended his invitations and badly wanted Alwin to join for the sake of extra hands.

"I’m not sure. I’m still thinking about it," Alwin replied.

"I see... Then, I’d like to ask this now while I have the chance. I know I may seem preposterous, but it’s because I’m in awe. This room and your room have the best security features I’ve ever seen. I’d like to make a room like this too. Would it be possible to learn about it from you?"

"..."

Alwin was speechless about what Cassandra had just asked of him.

Everyone except Arabella was surprised as well.

After all, it was common sense that security features were among the tightest secrets of every nation.

However, it was indeed better to try and ask than never.

[I should be chastising her for daring to ask this question, but if he agrees, it will be beneficial in the long run.]

The Pope decided not to intervene and see how Alwin and everyone else respond.

"I am grateful to His Holiness for healing me. However, this room’s features are the results of my experiments and use a lot of mana to cast and mana stones to maintain. I’m sure you are not lacking resources, but I won’t divulge security features which can be used against us in the future," Alwin refused.

"I will never dare. I just want to make one for His Holiness," Cassandra explained.

"I doubt imprisoning your father in a room like this will make him happy," Alvis pointed out.

Cassandra blushed but persisted and said, "It’s just safety measures. There are also a lot of attempts on His Holiness. We have thwarted every single one, but it’s better to be careful."

"Ah, you have your headaches too, don’t you?" Alvis said to the Pope.

"Of course I do. Especially since the Temple is in Medius. A melting pot of people also gathers all sorts of schemers," the Pope sighed deeply.

This was also true. After all, the slave trade also occurs underground in Medius.

Being in the heart of the continent made Medius a key location for all sorts of organizations.

"Still, I have the protection of our Creator, so you need not worry too much, Sandra," the Pope assured his daughter.

"Even so. It doesn’t mean we can relax on security," Cassandra said.

One can never be too careful after all.

[We do need to protect the Pope and ensure he successfully teaches his successor. But it’s too risky to teach this...]

Alwin pondered over it.

"Instead of teaching you, I can make one for His Holiness," Alwin volunteered, and his elders were astounded.

[Why is he suddenly volunteering for something like this?!]

[If they have capable mages, they can study it and replicate it. It will probably take a while, though...]

[Is this lady actually her mate? I have never seen Alwin agree so easily to something this unreasonable.]

[Alwin is from this generation, so it should be fine for him to share his knowledge. But if this was used for something else...]

All of Alwin’s elders had their worries.

[What if he adds a feature to spy on Father? They will learn all the information they want...]

Cassandra had her concerns as well.

"That’s only if my elders agree, of course," Alwin added when he noticed his elders’ reactions.

"I’m not sure about that. I’d rather make it myself even if it’s difficult. I’m not saying I don’t trust you, but..." Cassandra trailed off and didn’t say it out loud.

"We are forbidden from harming His Holiness; he’s the Overseer of Humans after all," Alwin pointed out.

[So this is why His Holiness said he’s fine heading here alone...]

Cassandra and the paladins finally understood why the Pope had originally intended to head here alone without any guards or assistants.

[Did we actually come as baggage?!]

They realized that the Pope would have been safer alone than having to protect them.

{We deeply apologize for our ignorance!!!}

Cassandra and the paladins apologized to the Pope telepathically in unison.

{It’s alright. This is a valuable lesson for all of you. I wanted to show you the Empire as well and how the long-lived races had led them so far.}

In the end, they did not reach an agreement about the room, but Alwin did say he would think about it and discuss it with everyone first.

Along with some gifts, Riley teleported the Pope and his companions to the border, where he picked them up.

"You may teach her, but not right now. They must clean up the temple first to ensure it doesn’t fall into the wrong hands," Ferdinand said after their guests were gone.

"It’s probably better to create a room for the Pope than teach her. They could study it and make one themselves, but only after several years of studying all of the spells," Raymond preferred the second idea.

"I’d rather you don’t either of the two," Alvis disliked the fact that Alwin would get more work for himself.

Alwin then glanced at Arabella, who was the only one who had not said her opinion yet.

"Cassandra’s intention was indeed for the Pope’s safety. However, if this knowledge falls into the wrong hands, it will be dangerous. And shouldn’t you rest first before thinking about getting more work?" Arabella pointed out.

"Indeed. You should return to your room and have some rest," Alvis immediately agreed.

"I already slept for too long. I’d rather not stay in my room for too long again," Alwin refused to stay put.
