Chapter 928: Mercy and Blessing
Chapter 928: Chapter 928: Mercy and Blessing
The Pope once again made the long explanations he had made in this room when Alvis and Alwin were not around.
"I understand we had our shortcomings, and we do apologize for it.
However, please still be mindful of your actions in the future as well.
It was good, there were no casualties from your mana, and no monsters popped up.
Not to mention, you showed what you look like. Some people have surely realized what you are.
Thankfully, the truth about the long-lived races is still unbelievable for most.
But the people of Crux are now worshiping you as their god and treating an overgrown tree as a sacred tree," the Pope also pointed out what was wrong with Alvis’ actions.
Alvis was in a panic, which was why he did what he did, but the Pope also had a valid point.
Thankfully, most people will simply think the sudden growth of weeds was a mysterious occurrence and would not connect it to the long-lived races. Even more so for the earthquake Alvis caused.
No one would believe it was caused by a single person, except for magicians who would be able to tell it was caused by mana.
"I should have stayed calm indeed, but it was a shock.
As you can tell, my nephew is very powerful and has already surpassed me in a lot of ways.
I never expected him to get hurt, especially with all his defenses, as this room demonstrates.
Likewise, he was trained by experienced combatants and swordsmen, so he doesn’t have weaknesses.
As for the people of Crux, they decided to worship me on their own.
I never wanted them to do so.
But looking at it from another angle, it helped hasten the change that their new rulers wanted.
The nobles feared the punishment of what they believed was a deity, so violence and abuses had greatly lessened.
And the poor people who had accepted that their situation would never change found hope to cling to.
While the people have these beliefs, their new rulers can do their best to change the system they wanted to uproot..."
Alvis listed all the positive things about it to contradict the Pope.
"And the tree from Alwin’s blood is indeed a sacred tree.
The fruits it will bear for more than a hundred years will be rich in mana and can help heal minor wounds and illnesses.
Its flowers, bark, leaves, and roots can be used to treat wounds and various illnesses as well.
If that’s not a sacred tree, then what is?
If so many people had not seen it, I would bring it back with me to our abode in Estrella so my fellow elves can take care of it themselves."
Sometimes, he seems to be nothing but a moody Uncle, but he does weigh and analyze things as a ruler does.
His fit in Crux did scare the nobles, and they were finally willing to stop their slavery practices after concluding they had received the wrath of the gods.
The fruits of Alwin’s tree and all its parts that can be edible or used as medicine were also a great help to the poor people who could not afford medicine.
Alvis had prohibited cutting the tree, but getting twigs and small branches and digging small roots were allowed as long as it was not excessive.
And even now, as they were speaking about it, a lot of people were benefiting from Alwin’s tree.
Thus, the people believe it is a form of mercy from the gods and a chance for them to change.
It indeed greatly helped in furthering the goal Princess Seraphina and Prince Sebastian had in mind.
The Pope and Alvis went back and forth discussing risks and benefits, while Ferdinand and Raymond did not talk back.
After debating with Alvis for a while, the Pope finally noticed Ferdinand and Raymond simply watched.
Only after the Pope realized there was no use debating with Alvis since he would never back down when it came to Alwin, did their discussion finally stop.
"Alright, let’s talk about something else. Can you give us a general overview as to why Crux went overboard?" the Pope asked Arabella, since she was the one who was not chastised by Alvis.
"The Queen and the anti-slavery faction were insistent on not returning the Prudencians. Further, the Queen and the Ruela Household wanted to use the war to eliminate the Alba Household, so they could be the most powerful family in Crux," Arabella shared what they were allowed to divulge at the moment.
"And they were full of pride and overconfidence, thinking they could win because of the necromancers and anti-magic weapons," Ferdinand added.
"What a selfish way to raise their household... Their crimes against humanity have gone too far. They can no longer blame this on their culture and system..." the Pope shook his head.
They discussed the punishments for the former Queen of Crux and her allies who were in on the scheme to use necromancy and the poisoned anti-magic weapons, plus the crime of sacrificing human lives like it was nothing.
Due to the severity of the crimes, the Great Temple also had to issue their punishment to condemn the said acts so no kingdom would repeat it again.
"This also needs to be discussed in the next Yearly Assembly of the Council," the Pope added.
"Indeed," Arabella and everyone else fully agreed.
There were still kingdoms in Eliora that had slavery. If they valued their people as low as the nobles of Crux did, they might repeat the crime in the future.
Thus, it had to be discussed in the Council.
Once the meeting was over, the Pope and his comrades were set to return to Medeus.
However, when they were about to step into the teleportation circle Riley prepared, Cassandra stopped walking and turned to Alwin’s direction.
"Uhm, my deepest apologies, but I may not have the chance to speak with you again... Can I ask you some questions?"
Cassandra finally gathered her courage and talked to Alwin.
[What would she want to speak about? Is it why she kept glancing at me?]
