Chapter 926: Chapter 926: The Bodiless Prisoner

His elders sighed in relief since they knew a relationship between the two would be doomed due to the rules.

{See?! I told you!

Please stop embarrassing me.

Not everyone who looks wants to get married!}

Cassandra complained about her father’s behavior.

The Pope apparently had the habit of scaring off anyone who he thought had an interest in Cassandra, even if it was about something else entirely.

{Alright. Alright. Calm down. We are still in Valeria.}

"I see. I’m relieved, then," the Pope returned to his professional smile.

Once the greetings and introductions were done, everyone was seated.

Raymond and Riley stood behind them again as they did in the meeting this morning.

"I hope you enjoyed your meal, Your Holiness," Arabella initiated the lighter talk.

"Yes, thank you for your warm welcome.

I did not expect to be served both Valerian and Lobelian cuisine.

Both were scrumptious as well," the Pope smiled brightly.

He looked like he truly enjoyed the meal.

[They even learned how to prepare Lobelian cuisine.

At such a level of finesse, too.

I’m glad they are treating her well.]

Arabella glanced at the people behind him, and they seemed to have enjoyed it as well. They also thanked them for the meal.

"I’m glad all of you enjoyed it.

Our chefs will be delighted to hear about it," Arabella smiled back.

They exchanged a bit of small talk before they finally hit the real discussion they should have had.

"I heard Your Holiness wanted to see our prisoner," Alwin inquired when it was time for the serious talk.

"Yes, I heard the prisoner is in your custody.

We would like to see him to familiarize ourselves with whatever kind of magic he was using," the Pope replied.

Alwin glanced at his elders.

They already talked about this before heading here when they updated Alwin about what happened in Crux and why the Pope was here.

When his elders gave the go signal, Alwin flicked his fingers, and their prisoner appeared, enclosed in a circular magic barrier.

"!!!"

Lindon was wide-eyed when he saw everyone who was gathered around him.

[Why are all of them gathered?!!

Where are we?!

What is this place?!!]

’So this is the real him?’

This was also Arabella’s first time to see the real Lindon.

This was just his soul, though. His body was kept in a separate prison that Alwin had made.

Arabella wanted to get some information from Lindon, so she wanted to speak with him or at least be around him while they interrogated him, but Ferdinand hadn’t allowed her back then due to the assassination attempt.

They did not know about her ability yet at the time, either, and she could not reveal it recklessly.

When she had finally informed Ferdinand about her ability, a lot of things were happening at the same time, and he did not want to put her at risk.

Thus, this was her first time meeting him while he was imprisoned like this.

[The Emperor and Empress.

The Prime Minister.

The elf who caught me and his assistant.

The Pope?!

Why is the Pope here?

Did he catch the spies we planted?!

No, if he did, why would he need to see me?

Perhaps, they are just sharing information.]

Lindon immediately gauged the situation.

’Spies?! So there’s not just one, but two or more spies in the temple?!?’

Arabella noted to inform Ferdinand and Alwin once their guests and Lindon were not here.

For now, she would keep listening to everyone’s thoughts and gather whatever information she could.

[What is this circular prison? It’s empty, but I can feel a dark energy oozing from it.] Cassandra thought.

The four paladins thought the same.

[So this is him? He’s using dark magic indeed.]

Among their guests, only the Pope was able to see Lindon’s soul.

{Alwin, except for the Pope, our guests can’t see Lindon.} Arabella informed him.

"Ah, my apologies. Your Holiness may cast a spell to let them see him," Alwin reset the room’s security feature to allow the Pope.

[If these are his most capable people, then he needs to up his security.

I thought they should be more sensitive to dark magic than us.

Seeing souls should have been one of their specialties with the divine power they are blessed with.

He should train them more.]

Alwin was disappointed that the Pope’s comrades could not see Lindon.

[He’s obviously looking down on us! But this is not our expertise. The others would have been better when it comes to dark magic!]

Cassandra and the paladins noticed Alwin’s condescending look.

{Hey! Don’t look at them like that! You’re making it too obvious on your face. And even you were only able to see him after all your limiters were released.} Arabella reminded Alwin.

She could see Lindon as well since Alwin had cast a spell on all of them to be able to see souls like Lindon so they won’t be fooled again in the future.

{I know. But it’s the truth, though. This was supposed to be their specialty.} Alwin reasoned.

{Even so, it’s rude to let it show on your face.

Be discreet about it.

I heard dark magic is not their expertise.

There are other people from the temple who are apparently more well-versed when it comes to dark magic.}

Arabella had to explain so Alwin would stop.

{Oh, I see. That’s good, then.} Alwin finally stopped.

The Pope noticed but let it be since he knew the five were indeed still lacking.

{The five of you must train better to be able to see this on your own in the future.}

{Yes, Your Holiness. We deeply apologize for embarrassing you.}

{It’s alright.

They are just on a completely different level.

And this soul in particular had cast something to protect even his soul and hide his presence.

But even so, being able to see souls even with these protection and invisibility spells is indeed something you must be able to do soon, since it seems we will have more problems like this in the future.}

{Yes, Your Holiness. We will do our best.}

"Thank you," the Pope smiled at Alwin, and used his powers to let Cassandra and the four paladins see Lindon.
