Chapter 914: Chapter 914: He Made the Best Anti-Magic Weapons
’Is this alright?’ Arabella wondered and glanced at Ferdinand, Raymond, and Riley.
She blinked twice when she realized all of them could have stopped Alvis, but did not.
They were allowing Alvis to vent his frustration somehow.
Likewise, they were concerned about the weapons, so it was indeed better for those who had them not to get near Alwin, who was in a vulnerable state.
Alvis’s panic after seeing the anti-magic weapons and the necklace with the poison was understandable, though.
[This scoundrel! He said not to heal Alwin to teach him a lesson, but now that they could use it to gauge the Pope’s ability, he is allowing it!]
Alvis glared at Raymond, and the latter pretended not to notice it.
"Thank you," the Pope said as Cassandra was in a more comfortable position. "I heard you were the one who dealt with the undead. You have my thanks for that as well, King Alvis."
[Oh, so he’s the one who stopped all the undead?!!]
[I heard there were thousands of them. This man alone dealt with all of them?!]
"Ah, right. It was your duty to vanquish those. It was a good way to blow off some steam. But I’d rather not deal with them again," Alvis visibly disliked the Pope a lot and did not try to hide it.
"Yes, of course. We are investigating the matter," the Pope did not take offense at Alvis’ tone. "As thanks, allow me to check on your nephew and heal him."
He knew that this time, Alvis was the one he needed approval from, since Ferdinand already agreed.
Alvis was already informed before they headed here, though.
Riley contacted him telepathically during the meeting.
Thus, Alvis already knew what the Pope would do. And Alvis preferred that Alwin be healed.
However, Alvis reacted the way he did since he was alarmed when he saw anti-magic weapons and the vial containing the same poison that led to Alwin in this state.
[Hmph. His inventions helped in the death of the long-lived races, yet he became the Overseer instead of getting punished. The most effective anti-magic weapons were created by him, and yet, here he is shamelessly acting like he’s harmless.]
’Those were created by him?!’ Arabella was shocked at what she had just learned.
"I’d rather heal Alwin myself, but since I’m just here temporarily, I must abide by the rules. Fine. Go on then. But if you try to do anything else, I won’t hold back either," Alvis warned.
"I know. I’m not up to anything," the Pope assured him.
With Alvis’ consent, the Pope looked around to ensure everyone was in agreement.
When they nodded, he finally walked to Alwin’s bed until he was just a foot away.
"I’ll examine him then."
The Pope’s eyes glowed as he examined Alwin without touching him.
"Oh, he has built a resistance against the poison.
His body did not take as much damage as I thought.
And he has already recovered significantly.
However, he seems to have overused recovery mana potions and exhausted himself, so it taxed his body.
I will cleanse what remains of the poison and help his body recover."
The Pope noticed that Alwin’s current state was not only due to the poison or the anti-magic weapon.
[They intentionally did not tell me about this, didn’t they?
They had already built resistance to the poison and likely had developed an antidote as well.
If not, his condition would be much worse than this.
Especially since he overused mana potions.
Did they make him take it repeatedly, or did he do it himself?
The antidote’s effect must have slowed down due to his exhausted state.]
The Pope figured it all out, but misunderstood the mana potions
[Still, this capacity is crazy.
He truly rivals a dragon, even though he’s an elf.
For his mana to be depleted repeatedly, just what did they make him do?
Do they overwork him like this often, or is this an isolated case due to the circumstances?]
The Pope mistook Alwin’s state as something caused by his superiors overworking him.
When in fact, it was all Alwin’s decisions. His elders never wanted him to overwork himself like this.
[There were rumors among the soldiers and knights of Crux about the sudden appearance of the Valerian Army...
For his monstrous capacity to be depleted, he must have been the one to teleport them.
What a fearsome ability.
This is exactly why another war must be avoided at all costs.
Without their limiters, a single person from the long-lived races can easily kill so many people at once.
There’s no need to repeat what happened in the past.]
Hearing his thoughts, Arabella was glad that the Pope truly did not want the Great War to happen again.
"I will heal him now," the Pope said and held Alwin’s wrist.
A bright white light coursed from the Pope to Alwin, and as the seconds ticked by, Alwin’s complexion improved until it returned to normal.
After a while, Alwin suddenly sat up, grabbed the Pope by the wrist, and pointed a magically conjured short sword at him while saying, "Who are you?!"
Alwin froze when he realized it was the Pope.
[Why is the Pope here?!]
He looked around and was shocked to be surrounded by everyone.
"W-what’s going on?" Alwin asked in confusion.
"Relax, I mean no harm," the Pope said.
[He seems well-versed with using weapons as well.]
Alwin glanced at his elders, and only when they nodded did he finally let go of the Pope and hide his weapon.
"He was healing you," Ferdinand said, and Alwin was wide-eyed.
[What’s that supposed to mean?!
What happened?!
I was just healing Prudencians as far as I remember.
Why is the Pope here to heal me?
Did they contact him just to heal me?
Was it because of the poison?
I thought what they gave me was enough to counter it.
Does this mean it wasn’t?
If the Pope is here to heal me, does it mean they could not, and had to depend on the Pope because of me?!]
Alwin was horrified at the thought that his respectable and prideful elders, who didn’t like depending on other people, had to depend on the Pope because of him.
