Chapter 908: Chapter 908: I Can Heal Him

The Pope was willing to cooperate to prove their innocence.

[Good. He offered it himself.]

Ferdinand was satisfied with the Pope’s response.

He intentionally spoke the way he did to trigger the Pope into voluntarily reacting this way.

Of course, Ferdinand was not the one who thought about this, He preferred the non-roundabout way.

However, Raymond insisted on this since the Pope was the Overseer of humans. They could not force him to do what he didn’t like, so they had to be strategic about it.

Thankfully, it worked. They did not have to do more to make the Pope move without directly telling him what to do.

{He’s telling the truth, right?}

Ferdinand asked Arabella to verify just in case.

{Yes. He’s telling the truth. He’s not the one who gave the poison and is not involved with the weapon either.} Arabella replied.

The Pope was innocent. The same was true with Cassandra and the four paladins.

They were not involved with the poisoning and the anti-magic weapons.

"Also, I am able to detoxify poisons with Divine Power. It’s one of the gifts I have received to protect me from this poison, I must safeguard. I believe I can heal your mage," the Pope added.

Ferdinand and Arabella looked at each other before they glanced at Raymond.

Riley did the same as well.

[Why are all of them looking at the Prime Minister?]

The Pope and his companions also looked at Raymond.

{Raymond, this is our chance to see what he can do. If he helps Alwin along the way, then, isn’t it even better?}

Ferdinand wanted to see the Pope using his Divine Powers.

{Alright. Alright. Please stop looking at me. We are in front of guests. They are going to find it weird.}

Arabella and everyone else could not help it though.

It was Raymond who told them it was time to teach Alwin a lesson. Thus, they ended up glancing at him when the Pope offered healing.

[If the Pope can detoxify it completely, then it’s good for Alwin’s health. If he could help Alwin recover some of his mana, then Alwin won’t have to stay in Estrella for a few days to recover all this mana.] Raymond thought.

Alwin’s monstrous capacity, which was depleted several times in a single day and had only recovered a bit, would need him to stay in Estrella for several days to fully recover, without any aid.

"I hope you’re not trying to do anything funny," Ferdinand glanced at the Pope’s necklace.

He meant the Pope might attempt to finish Alwin off using the poison in the necklace once he gets close enough.

"Oh, not at all." the Pope understood. "My successor will wear the necklace in the meantime."

The Pope touched the jar and it returned as a small vial again. He then handed it to Cassandra, who nervously wore it after knowing what it was.

{Why are you making me wear something so valuable? What happens if I accidentally drop this?}

Cassandra asked in a panicked tone.

{No need to fret. Even a sword won’t be able to cut it down. Don’t you think it is indeed risky to have it on? If something happened to him, even if it’s not my doing, we will be blamed for it.}

The Pope was calm about it, but also logical and careful.

It was indeed better for both their safety for the Pope not to hold onto the poison in the meantime.

"We will head to his room after the meeting," Ferdinand then concluded.

"That’s great then. I’ll do what I can for him," the Pope smiled.

[If I did, he would feel a bit grateful to me, right? He should at least become curious about Divine Power and agree to be enlisted in the temple, right?]

The Pope had a hidden agenda.

"If you try anything else, I won’t hesitate to cut you down," Ferdinand gave the Pope a death glare when he noticed the mischievous glint in his eyes.

"Yes, of course. Fret not. I just want to help him," the Pope clarified.

{Did he have any dark motives?} Ferdinand was suspicious so he asked Arabella.

{He’s not planning to harm Alwin. Though, he does have a hidden agenda. He wants to heal Alwin so he would feel indebted to him o=and become curious about Divine Power. Strong enough that he would agree to enlist in the temple.} Arabella clarified.

{I see. Thank you.}

Ferdinand finally stopped glaring at the Pope after hearing Arabella’s explanation.

"Then let’s move on to the next agenda. I believe it’s the main reason you are here," Ferdinand guessed.

[Oh, how tricky. This means they already knew I had nothing to do with the previous two, right?]

The Pope realized he fell into their trap.

[I guess as long as the problem is solved for now, it should be fine.]

"Yes. At first, I was alarmed when I felt the tremor caused by mana so I immediately sent Lucas and Crystal here, to investigate," the Pope pointed to two of the Paladins with him. "They were shocked to hear there were undead and immediately reported it to me. I wanted to be able to question the necromancers you caught but you refused."

"Of course, we wouldn’t. The poison and anti-magic weapon appeared at the same time. And my mage got hurt from both," Ferdinand said matter-of-factly.

After all, they needed assurance that the Pope and the Great Temple were not conspiring against the long-lived races.

They cannot simply share more information without knowing their real intent.

Now that they know the Pope is still keeping his word and doing his part to prevent conflict between the two races, it’s fine to allow them more information.

"I understand. But now that you know we had no part in what happened in Crux, it’s better to share information with each other. The undead and the necromancers are equally detrimental to both sides," the Pope pointed out.

He was right about this.

Ferdinand and Raymond also wanted to speak with the Pope about the undead, which was why this meeting was agreed upon.
