Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 904: With Utmost Security
Chapter 904: Chapter 904: With Utmost Security
Everyone except for the Pope bowed their heads.
The Pope had brought five people with him.
Four were clearly fighters and magicians.
Meanwhile, the other one seemed to be the Pope’s secretary. She was a gorgeous lady who had a resemblance to the Pope.
[They did not bring any guards with them.]
[Is this their way of telling us they trust us? Aren’t they being too lax?]
[The Prime Minister welcomed us with only the magician who teleported us here. And yet, the same magician left him alone to speak with us while we waited. And now this.]
[Even the Emperor and Empress entered without a single guard despite the incident in Medeus and in Crux.]
[Are they underestimating us or telling us they trust the Temple and are not suspicious of us?]
The Pope’s companions who were standing a step behind him, were all puzzled.
There was no need for guards though, since the Pope and his companions won’t be able to leave this room even with a teleportation spell or scroll.
They would be trapped in this room if they tried anything funny.
The only way out of here was either through the door that could only be passed with authorization from someone of the long-lived races or through Riley teleporting them out of here with his authority as assistant to the master of the Magic Tower.
Further, everything in this room is under their control.
Any harmful spell used in this room will be automatically cancelled by the room’s security features.
Anyone not authorized to use a weapon but who wielded it would immediately be immobilized with a spell cast in advance as part of the room’s security.
The only ones currently authorized to wield a weapon in this room were the long-lived races.
Thus, Ferdinand, Alwin, and Riley.
On the surface, it may seem like they were being lax with security. But in truth, they were very much careful with this meeting, especially after what happened to Alwin.
Ferdinand and Raymond are both resistant to the poison that hurt Alwin.
As for the weapon, the two were both skilled and experienced fighters, so there was no need to worry about it.
Riley would take care of everything related to magic that the room’s security features won’t be able to negate.
Zion and Rendell were also on standby outside, and they could enter anytime they were needed.
And the only one among them who cannot fight is Arabella.
She could stab and run away if she had to, but she knew she would not need to do anything with both Ferdinand and Raymond here.
Rendell himself said these two were stronger than he was, so there was no need to worry at all.
Likewise, Riley is also a very capable mage.
"It’s good to see you again, Your Majesties," the Pope said with a well-practiced smile.
"Yes," Ferdinand replied with a poker face.
[I know he’s an Emperor, but is that really all he’s going to say?!]
The Pope’s companions felt attacked by Ferdinand’s response, so the atmosphere became a bit tense.
"It’s good to see you again, Your Holiness. Welcome to Valeria," Arabella smiled.
[Oh, I did hear the Empress is much friendlier.]
The Pope’s companions relaxed at Arabella’s response.
"Thank you," the Pope smiled back.
With this, the tense atmosphere was lessened.
[She’s not wearing the ring I gave her, nor is it on her person.
She never contacted me, even once either.
She’s reeking of so much more of his mana, too.
And they’re still holding hands.
Does this mean she hadn’t had any problems with him yet?]
’Ah, right! He did give me a ring to contact him!’
Arabella almost forgot about it. She only recalled it now after hearing about it from his thoughts.
The ring is still safely kept in the jewelry box she had placed it in. Alwin had imbued the box with magic so it wouldn’t be stolen or lost.
Arabella did not have anything in particular to personally speak about, so she had never contacted him.
His offer to contact him was not valid for work-related matters, but only for matters with her relationship with Ferdinand, so she never used the ring.
"I’d rather you do not stare too much," Ferdinand warned when the Pope’s gaze stayed on Arabella.
"Oh, my apologies. Where are my manners? I was just relieved to see the Empress is doing well," the Pope replied, and Ferdinand frowned.
"Of course, she is. Quit it with your meddling," Ferdinand warned.
[I already told him, Arabella has agreed to be my mate.]
Some of the Pope’s companions were once again appalled at Ferdinand’s behavior.
[His Holiness is just concerned about the Empress!]
[Does the Empress really know about what her husband truly is?]
"Alright. I didn’t come here to meddle anyway," the Pope sighed.
Thankfully, their spat did not escalate further.
"Oh, right. My companions here are paladins from the temple. And this one is my successor," the Pope pointed to the gorgeous lady who had a resemblance to him as his successor.
[She’s the successor?!]
All the long-lived races in the room, even Ferdinand, glanced at the Pope’s successor.
Their eyes glowed with magic as they checked her out.
[She’s the one who will replace him?!] Riley thought
[She did seem to have a lot of mana and a more discerning eye than the others.] Raymond thought.
[She seems to have great potential, but she’s still quite far.] Ferdinand thought.
"Now, now. Please don’t gawk at my daughter. She is quite shy," the Pope said.
"D-daughter?!" Arabella was shocked at what she heard. There was no news of him getting married at all.
"I was adopted from His Eminence’s relatives," the lady clarified.
[I already told him not to say it to other people since people keep misunderstanding. If no one is going to explain, people will think he has been lying to everyone. Geez.]
"Oh, I see. My apologies for being rude. I was surprised. Thank you for clarifying," Arabella quickly corrected her behavior.
