Chapter 82: We Had a Son [Bonus Chapter]
Arabella wanted to ask Ferdinand if she could go with them to Prudencia. She somehow wanted to see for herself how Gulliver and his men were punished.
But she knew she would just get in the way.
After all, Prudencia Palace would become a battlefield if Marquess Gulliver resist surrendering or try to escape.
If she went with them, they would worry about her safety. They would have to assign more guards for her instead of focusing on their mission.
Ferdinand and the knights might also be distracted by her presence.
She wouldn’t be any help anyway even if she went to Prudencia so she decided not to go. She would just stay in the Valeria Palace and patiently wait for the news.
It was also part of her job to believe in their knights and wait for the report.
She tilted her head in question when Ferdinand stared at her.
[She looks like she wants to come with us. But it would be too dangerous.]
She flinched, ’Was it that obvious on my face? I must have let my guard down too much for my thoughts to just be visible on my face all the time.’
"Can you convince your assistant to testify against the Marquess? I heard she was his betrothed because he threatened her with her siblings’ lives."
Arabella realized Ferdinand was giving her something else to do.
"Of course. I will speak with her."
"Thank you."
She was the one who should say thanks though since he was giving her a job so she won’t feel left out.
"If there is anything else I can help with, no matter how minor, please let me know."
"It’s because of you that what was happening in Prudencia came to light. If you didn’t visit them, we wouldn’t have known what was happening until later. You have already done more than enough and I am very much grateful. Please leave this to me."
[I don’t want you involved in the dirty work. We might have to spill blood. Her maid said last time that seeing blood makes her have nightmares. Her nightmare earlier must be caused by seeing blood in Prudencia.]
’He is being considerate.’
"Thank you. But I have done nothing of importance. I merely wanted a visit," she pretended to act as if this wasn’t her goal in the first place.
"All the same. It was because of your visit that this happened. If things go as planned, I might be able to bring you with us the next day for the Marquess’ trial. It would be then that your assistant would serve as one of the witnesses."
"Really, I can go too?!"
[She looks happy. She must want to see for herself how things get resolved since she witnessed what was happening firsthand.]
"Yes, if everything goes well and we capture all the people we wanted for the trial."
"Thank you. I hope everything goes well. I look forward to the Marquess’ troubled and regretful face."
She was happy that Ferdinand actually thought of bringing her along for the trial.
She’d love to see the expression on Odette’s face as well once she’s finally free of Gulliver’s clutches.
"I knew there must be a reason why Odette, who was so beautiful and graceful, was engaged with someone that old and cruel. He’s twice her age."
Odette was just fifteen while Marquess Gulliver was thirty.
[!!!]
’Oops. Did I just say that out loud?’
She looked up at Ferdinand when she realized he had gone silent.
[I’m also so much older than her. She would be disgusted if she learned my true age, wouldn’t she? Add my reputation here in the human realm and it was no wonder she was scared of me. She would be horrified once she learns I’m not even human, wouldn’t she?]
Ferdinand concluded that she would ask for divorce once she learns about his secrets.
’Is this why he didn’t tell me about it in our past life?’
It was because he was scared she would leave him?
He could have told her the facts when they had Fermin. Or he concluded she couldn’t be trusted with his secret so he didn’t tell her?
"I wasn’t trying to say anything about our age gap. It wasn’t my intention, I’m sorry. And we are just five years apart, so please don’t be bothered by my words."
"R-right. I just wondered if you hated older men," Ferdinand beat around the bush.
"No, not at all. I like mature men," smiled and he sighed in relief.
"You are already my husband. You have nothing to worry about," she assured him and he embraced her one more time.
After a few seconds, he diverted the topic so they won’t keep talking about age.
"By the way, what was your nightmare about?"
[Now that I thought about it, she screamed, don’t hurt HIM repeatedly. Who was she referring to? It must be someone important if she was trembling and sobbing because of him. Who would be so important to her... Ah, was she referring to her former lover? Then, I must be the villain. Is she dreaming I was hurting his former lover and she was stopping me?]
’Eh? I said those out loud while I was asleep?’
Still, how was Ferdinand so imaginative? All she said was, ’don’t hurt him,’ but he was adding all sorts of things.
How should she explain?
She embraced him and settled her head on his chest.
[!!!]
Ferdinand was speechless. He stiffened and even his thoughts became blank for a few seconds.
’Just hugging him has this much effect?’
[She embraced me of her own volition?! This is a first.]
"My nightmare was really scary. You see, in my dream, we had a son," she began still with her head settled on his chest.
She didn’t let him see her face since he might be able to tell she would hold something back.
[W-we had a S-SON?!!!]
’Doesn’t he want to?’ she frowned. She decided to ask to know what he thought about having children.
"Do you want to have children?"
[C-children?!]
’So he doesn’t want to?’ she pouted. How could she have Fermin if the father was unwilling?
She looked up at Ferdinand’s face to see what expression he was making.
His ears were red and he looked flustered.
