Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 73: Not Stone-hearted
Chapter 73: Not Stone-hearted
"I was surprised Your Majesty can give orders with such command in your voice. But regardless, I will always heed your orders, Your Majesty," Rendell bowed his head. "Moreover, I was also aching to pummel those mercenaries anyway."
"I see. That’s a relief. Thank you, Rendell."
"It’s my pleasure, Your Majesty."
She glanced at Alwin next.
"I didn’t mean to order you around as well. I was just allowed to make you teleport me since I have His Majesty’s permission. I didn’t mean to order you around as if I am Ferdinand."
If Alwin hates her more, she wouldn’t be able to make him her ally. She needed his knowledge and power.
[Hmph. What is she apologizing for after she already ordered us around? It’s not like she can take back her orders after we already obeyed.]
’He really doesn’t hold back, doesn’t he?’
"It’s alright. I am His Majesty’s mage so his Empress can also give me orders. As long as it’s not unreasonable, I will also follow your orders."
Thankfully, he said something different from what he was thinking.
’Then, does this mean he would follow other orders I give him in the future even if he doesn’t like them?’
She had to understand what was Alwin’s definition of unreasonable.
"Thank you, Alwin."
[I do dislike her but she did do her job as an Empress in the past and she wasn’t bad at it. I guess it’s better than an Empress who doesn’t work at all. I just have to make sure she doesn’t dare cheat on His Majesty again. If she dares to be a conniving vixen again I will make sure she suffers much more than she ever did.]
’So cruel. I won’t cheat again. Geez. It’s not like I did it because I wanted to cheat. It was just a means to an end.’
She wanted to give Alwin a long explanation but just let it be.
She couldn’t possibly reveal she could hear their thoughts or that she had memories of her past life. Alwin might just become even meaner to her.
"Your Majesty address them as Alwin and Rendell just fine. Please just call me Raymond too."
"But, you are the Prime Minister."
And she was his superior in a sense since he was the one who gets to decide which work would be sent to her office.
"It’s fine, Your Majesty. It should be easier to speak casually when we are not in a formal setting."
"Alright then. And, thank you for listening to me earlier. I simply panicked when I thought the child might die. He was so young to suffer such things."
"No need to thank me. It was my pleasure, Your Majesty. Rather, I was glad to have a valid reason to go even after Alwin stopped me. My first child is also a five-year-old boy, so seeing that child hurt really made me furious too. I would have gone as soon as I can if Rendell and Alwin hadn’t stopped me."
"Oh my, you have a child?" she pretended not to know.
She was relieved her companions wouldn’t actually just let a child die right in front of them. They were not stone-hearted.
After all, though she didn’t know them at a personal level, all of them in the past were loyal, respectful, and dutiful. They did hold back on information about Estrella; perhaps, because of a rule, but they did not do anything to directly harm her.
"Yes, Your Majesty. I have two children. A son and a daughter. My son is five while my daughter is still a toddler. She’s just three years old."
"I’d love to meet them. They must be adorable."
"Do you mean that, Your Majesty?"
"Of course!"
"Then I shall let them visit you sometime. They are the most adorable things in the world. . ." And Raymond began to brag about his children.
[Ugh. Here it comes again. I better leave while I can. I’ve heard this more than a thousand times in my past life. Why do I have to keep listening to it again?] Alwin made a face.
"Your Majesty, I will go around the County to heal those who were beaten up by the collectors."
Alwin used the injured to leave. Still, it would be a great help now that he volunteered to do it himself.
After all, Marie said the doctors were away to purchase medicine.
"Oh my. Thank you very much, Alwin! I was just thinking of asking you the same. Please do take care of them."
Alwin vanished before Raymond could say anything.
While they were waiting for the collectors to leave the County, Raymond went on to brag about his children.
Rendell fell asleep after fifteen minutes.
Alwin put up a protective and invisibility barrier around them so no one would even notice they were there.
There was no chance of anyone attacking them. And Rendell wakes up when he was needed anyway. It was like he knows by instinct.
Arabella meanwhile enjoyed listening to Raymond’s stories about his children from when his wife was still pregnant until the children were born and they quickly grew up.
It was so good to learn about other children’s growth even if she couldn’t talk about Fermin’s as well.
She truly missed Fermin so much.
If only she was sure she would give birth to Fermin even if she got pregnant on any random day; Arabella herself would seduce Ferdinand to sleep in her chambers until she was sure she was pregnant.
But she couldn’t do it just yet. The chances she wouldn’t give birth to Fermin scared her.
With Raymond’s storytelling, two hours passed by quickly and Alwin finally returned and reported to them.
While she was listening to Raymond’s stories about his children, Alwin went around the County and healed all those who were beaten up.
Alwin also gathered some intel and verified the information they heard from Marie.
He even tried to make more of the people agree as witnesses once the need arises.
