Chapter 593: Speaking Cheesy Lines with a Straight Face
.
Being in Ferdinand’s arms like this gave Arabella such an immense sense of safety and assurance.
If possible, she didn’t want him out of her sight for the next few days.
He felt so warm and nice.
She looked up at the vast sky.
It was a full moon. The moon was so bright, and it gave a good view of the surroundings.
The stars were so much brighter than usual too. It was indeed a good night for stargazing.
"They’re so pretty," Arabella was glad she accepted Ferdinand’s offer to go here.
When she was alone, the view of the night sky, the faraway moon, and the stars only made her lonely. But with Ferdinand right beside her, they look so beautiful to gaze at.
"Yes, so pretty," Ferdinand replied, and Arabella glanced up to see the expression on his face since it wasn’t that easy for him to praise something.
She blinked twice when he was gazing at her.
"Why are you looking at me?" Arabella inquired.
"Can’t I?"
"You can. But aren’t we here to view the stars?"
Arabella felt the heat rise to her face since she heard from his thoughts that she was the one he was praising with her words earlier.
"I am looking at my star," Ferdinand kissed her forehead.
’When did he learn to speak like this?!’ Arabella knew her face turned red.
He was saying cheesy things out of nowhere. And with a straight face too. He looked like he didn’t even know he said something quite cheesy.
It had been months since they were together, so her heart wasn’t ready for this.
[Why would I waste my time gazing at the stars when I can finally see her after not being together for months?]
Arabella discovered from his thoughts that he planned to gaze at her and not the stars from the beginning.
He indeed wanted to show her the stars tonight but that was it. She could gaze at the stars all she wanted while he planned to gaze at her the whole time.
"Geez. You should look at the sky," Arabella directed his face towards the night sky in embarrassment.
"The stars are pretty too. But you are much prettier. I can just gaze at you for the rest of my life," Ferdinand said another cheesy line without realizing it.
Arabella was the only one who was getting all shy about it.
"Why is your face so red? Are you not feeling well?" Ferdinand touched her forehead and cupped her face.
"I’m fine," she avoided his gaze.
[Oh, she’s feeling shy. About what?]
Ferdinand didn’t understand why.
"Tell me why your face is this red," he demanded.
"It’s just hot," Arabella reasoned, and he teased her even more, trying to make her meet his eyes so he would have a clue.
She avoided his gaze and focused on the distance instead.
It was then that she noticed something.
"Eh?! Why is the sea around the island frozen? It’s not that cold yet. Snow hasn’t even begun to fall," Arabella blinked repeatedly.
She thought she was just seeing things but when she glanced at Ferdinand, he knew about it too. And he was so calm about it.
"My mana affected it.
I had just been in a fight with another primordial, so much of my mana was used.
Plus, I headed back here all alarmed.
That was why I had to leave quickly earlier and shift with this body.
My mana could have hurt you if Alwin and Alvis didn’t put up barriers.
The island is protected with spells so it would remain habitable even if my body released so much mana.
But the seas around do not have as many spells as the island. It would thaw in a few days to weeks as the amount of mana oozing from my real body decreases."
"Wow, just your mana could do this much?!" Arabella gasped.
She rose and walked to the edge of the balcony. Ferdinand followed her and wrapped her in his arms again.
It was astounding to see the seas frozen while the island was unaffected. Or not.
"The leaves of trees have wilted so much more than just this morning. A lot are falling every time the wind blows."
Arabella eyed the forests and the garden.
The leaves of trees that wilted and fell looked like they were crumbling so quickly and vanishing before they reached the ground since none piled up.
And strangely, only the flowers were not wilting.
"Ah, it’s because the mana oozing from my body is dangerous since I just came from a fight.
So instead of nurturing the vegetation nearby, as it usually does, it harms them.
It was why Alvis had to maintain barriers while I fought with Nero.
Or else, our mana would have caused a lot of damage to the surroundings."
"I see," Arabella nodded her head. She learned something again today. "Oh, then why are the flowers not wilting?"
"How could I damage something you love? I cast protection spells on them earlier before I shifted with this body," Ferdinand said nonchalantly.
"You did?!"
Arabella blinked repeatedly. She felt like she just received another love arrow into her heart. How much more will Ferdinand attack her heart today?
’He did that in a matter of seconds?’
She recalled that he only vanished for a few seconds and reappeared shortly after.
They had just reunited back then, and he was still alarmed and confused about what was going on, but he already thought of protecting her flowers from getting wilted by his mana.
"Your face is red again," Ferdinand pointed out, teasing her.
[I didn’t know she would be this happy about it.]
Arabella kissed him on the cheek this time, and he grinned.
The way he looked at her happily made her heart race. She looked away feeling shy again.
’What’s this? Was it because it had been months? My heart just keeps skipping a beat or racing wildly.’
Arabella tried to calm herself.
It was then that she noticed Alwin and Alvis walking to the forest.
