Chapter 583: You are Not Allowed to Teleport Anywhere Alone
The black messenger bird that delivered Evania’s letter was apparently waiting for a reply letter to bring it back to the Shadow Territory.
Alwin had it stay in a magic cage in one of the rooms in the Magic Tower and was guarded by one of the mages.
"Shouldn’t it rest first?" Arabella tilted her head.
Messenger birds were usually fed and allowed to rest before they were sent to fly back to where they came from. Unless it was an emergency and they needed to return as soon as possible.
"It’s not a real living thing. It was made of magic," Alwin reminded.
"Oh, right," Arabella felt like an idiot. He did say earlier that it was a bird made with magic. She forgot because of all their discussions.
"It might take a lot of Orpheus mana to maintain the bird from such a distance, so it is better to reply as soon as possible," Alwin explained.
But Arabella learned from his thoughts what he was truly concerned about. It was that it could have other abilities activated in it. Such as listening in on them or something like that.
It was why Alwin had it kept in a separate room from this one in case Orpheus could see and hear through the bird.
"Alright, I’ll return to my study first then. Or could you please retrieve my seal from my study," Arabella said and Alwin vanished before she could finish talking.
"Here," he reappeared in ten seconds with the special paper she used for her letters, her magic pen, and her seal.
"Thank you."
’What a useful ability. I wish I could teleport too. Maybe I should ask him to teach me if it’s possible for me to learn it. Or should I ask him for scrolls? It must be easy for him to make those.’
"What?" Alwin frowned at her when she stared at the items he brought instead of writing.
"I was just thinking I wish I could teleport too. Don’t you think you could give me scrolls or a magic item I could use?"
She opted for the second option since teleportation was high-level magic.
It would probably take years to learn it and it would only be possible to learn it only if she had the aptitude to learn things related to magic. She wasn’t sure about that, so she asked for scrolls or magic items instead.
"It’s so conve-"
"No," Alwin cut her off.
"Can’t you let me finish?"
"No need. You are not allowed to learn teleportation magic or hold onto scrolls or any magic item you could use to teleport wherever you please," Alwin ended her hopes.
"You are so rude. I was just asking nicely," Arabella pursed her lips and glared at him.
"I thought you were used to it by now. And I’m not His Majesty. You can pout all day and I won’t feel bad at all."
’I wasn’t even trying to make him feel bad.’
"Ugh, maybe I should tell Ferdinand you are actually this rotten," Arabella didn’t debate further and simply sighed.
"He would agree with me. He would also prohibit it. It’s too dangerous for you to use teleportation scrolls or items on your own," Alwin talked like he was so sure Ferdinand would think the same.
Ferdinand would indeed worry, but if Arabella asked him nicely, he might agree.
Meanwhile, Alwin’s reason might be because he thinks she might use it to cheat on Ferdinand.
"Are you being suspicious of me again? Can’t you see I’m missing my husband too much? I’m not planning to use it for rendezvous with other men or anything like that."
"I didn’t even think about that. But now that you mention it, it could indeed happen, so I better ensure you don’t get your hands on any more teleportation scrolls," Alwin smirked.
"Ugh. I shouldn’t have mentioned it," she just told him she wasn’t planning on using it on such things, but he thought of being more vigilant instead.
"You can summon me if you need to go somewhere. Why would you even need scrolls?"
"What if you are busy or out of reach and I need to go somewhere urgently?" she tried to convince him a bit more.
"Riley, Rowan, or Zion could teleport you in my stead if they are around. If not, you must wait for me. You cannot go anywhere without at least one of us guarding you anyway, so I don’t see the problem with it."
"What if all of you are busy and it’s an emergency?" Arabella tried again.
"Blanca will start serving you soon. She cannot use teleportation magic yet, but she can flee with you somewhere safe in case of danger or other emergencies. Moreover, with all the spells His Majesty and I cast on you, no one would be able to hurt you anymore."
"Right."
Due to the mourning period for Renee, Blanca was not yet introduced as the replacement maid. They waited until the mourning period ended so that Blanca would be introduced after several more days.
But the thought of riding Blanca or being carried by her to go somewhere made her feel bad for the girl.
"And as I have said, it’s dangerous. You may end up teleporting somewhere else entirely if you get distracted for a bit," Alwin enlightened her since she was ignorant of the possibilities.
"That could happen?" Arabella blinked twice. It would indeed be dangerous if that was the case.
"Yes. I don’t want to be the one who gets scolded if you went missing. Likewise, what if you accidentally teleport to enemy territory? It’s going to be a war if you get caught and they refuse to return you," Alwin pointed out.
Arabella was wide-eyed. Those were worst-case scenarios. But if such things could happen, then it was better to rely on Alwin and the others instead of getting herself into such dangerous situations that could lead to much bigger problems.
"I, I see," she didn’t insist anymore.
