Chapter 573: A Huge Step to Change the Future

Darcus and Orpheus were wary, but they realized this was an emotional parting even for Evania since she had been with these people for months.

"Yes, thank you for reminding me," Evania smiled. She hugged back Aletha.

[It feels nice to have someone who would care for me like this. And she’s quite right. I got fooled by Chester and Fatima’s pretty faces.]

Among Arabella’s five maids, Aletha was the eldest, so she was the mother figure while Eunice was the eldest sister.

Carla, Irene, and Renee were akin to the younger siblings, and they were the ones who debated and fought quite a lot.

"We will miss you."

Carla, Eunice, and Irene also hugged "Renee."

"Eat properly and make sure to hire capable guards to travel with you," Eunice advised.

"Yes, I will. There are already capable people who would go with me," Evania smiled.

"Really? Are you sure you can trust them? You didn’t hire them just because they look good, did you?" Irene frowned.

"They do look good. But I’m sure they are also quite capable," Evania tried to assure them, but it worried them even more.

Darcus and Orpheus’ ears turned red since Evania was referring to them. They would remain invisible during the whole time though.

The ones hired by the Marquess would be the ones who would be seen guarding "Renee."

"Maybe we should see them before you depart," Carla eyed her suspiciously. They knew she would have been easily moved by the looks instead of the abilities.

"You worry too much. My family are the ones who hired them to go with me so there’s nothing to fear. I’m sure they are capable."

[I am perfectly capable of protecting my lady.]

[I won’t let anyone touch even a single strand of her hair.]

Darcus and Orpheus looked like they wanted to show themselves and show off, but Alwin glared at them.

[Ugh, childish old men.] Alwin rolled his eyes.

"I see. That’s a relief," the four maids sighed.

Arabella chuckled at that. Evania had been quite obvious and vocal with her tendencies to be biased or rather obsessed with beauty so her fellow maids knew. They sometimes shared her views and tastes, but she was the most extreme.

The hours went by, and Arabella let them say their goodbyes and give gifts to each other.

"Please accept these. You will be able to travel to your first two destinations in a matter of minutes with these," Arabella gifted "Renee" two of the teleportation magic scrolls they purchased from the Holy Temple in Medeus.

It was so they had a reason to say why "Renee" was able to leave Valerian borders so quickly. They were planning to fake her death so her family would stop waiting for her to return.

After all, the real Renee had already passed on a long time ago. Evania only continued her life thinking it was her third reincarnation.

"Amazing! Those are teleportation scrolls," Irene’s eyes twinkled when she saw it. They recognized it since they had seen it in Arabella’s study.

"Aren’t you grateful to have worked for Her Majesty?! Those scrolls cost an entire territory," Carla was envious.

It was indeed a very expensive gift. But it was a parting gift, so it was alright.

"Yes, I am deeply grateful," Evania smiled. "Thank you for everything, Your Majesty."

"You are most welcome. I am also grateful for all your hard work. I wish for your happiness no matter where you go," Arabella smiled back.

With that, it was time to go. Evania’s things were magically packed, so everything was ready.

"Goodbye everyone," Evania waved as they saw her off. Her fellow maids were teary-eyed as they waved back.

Evania then headed to her adopted family’s residence in Riva.

Darcus and Orpheus pretended to be knights "Renee" hired to guard her.

Riley followed them while maintaining his invisibility. His task was to follow them until they used the gate near Zygos to return to Umbra.

Evania stayed in her adopted family’s residence for a day before departing for her travels.

Arabella met with them again in secret to give her congratulatory gifts for their engagement and her parting gift with Evania before they departed for another territory to continue their plans.

Evania used one of the teleportation scrolls she had received from Arabella. She headed to one of the most visited kingdoms in Eliora and toured there with the knights her family sent her.

Darcus and Orpheus were with her the whole time. Riley as well. But the three remained invisible and guarded without the others’ knowledge.

(Several days later...)

Arabella was walking to her office when Alwin suddenly stopped. He had returned to his guard duty to her while Ferdinand was away.

"What’s wrong?" Arabella glanced at him and gasped.

The discoloration on his body was gone.

"The curse was undone," Alwin gazed at his hands.

"Really?! You’re not using magic to conceal it?" Arabella eyed him.

"It’s gone. All my healing spells have also stopped. They have returned to Umbra," Alwin conjured the magic contracts he had signed with Darcus and Orpheus.

The contracts glowed a golden light and vanished.

"See? This happens once the terms on both sides have been fulfilled," Alwin explained.

"I see. Thank goodness. All that time and effort for it was worth it," Arabella sighed in relief.

"Yes," Alwin smiled at her genuinely for the first time. He looked like a heavy burden was lifted off his shoulders.

[Her Majesty won’t be used by Evania anymore. My lord wouldn’t have to suffer and die that way again.] Alwin sighed in relief too.

He looked like he might cry.

"The curse must have hurt a lot. Yet, you endured it this whole time. Thank you for your hard work," Arabella rubbed his back as if it was just about the curse.

{Thank you. Really. Thank you very much for all your help.} Arabella touched her summoning ring.

Alwin simply covered his eyes with one hand.

He did not reply sarcastically to her this time. He was greatly relieved and emotional that they had finally succeeded in solving one of the major causes of what happened in their past lives.

One of their goals had finally been achieved.

Renee, or rather Evania, had returned to her homeland. She would no longer try to take revenge on Chester and Fatima using Arabella.

They have accomplished a major feat to prevent the tragic future they have once experienced.

They have taken a huge step toward their goal to ensure Ferdinand would have a chance at happiness in this life.

But now, their problem was, that Ferdinand had not returned yet.
