Chapter 570: Can’t I Keep You Both?

Darcus and Orpheus both fixed their postures and tried to look their best though it was obvious they tensed up as Evania gazed at them and was evaluating them in her mind.

[Darcus had a huge build like Her Majesty’s guard Rendell since he was among the strongest warriors among the Shadows. Despite others saying that keeping a body was a weakness, Darcus was perfectly strong and not vulnerable in his body.

[Orpheus has a build like Alwin since his focus was also magic. He is the most powerful in our territory when it comes to magic. And he had not gotten rid of his body either despite most magicians in our territory doing so, saying it was to not have any weakness.

[They are indeed equally outstanding and kind. They have both searched and waited for me even when they were unsure if I was alive or not. Isn’t it quite cruel to choose between them? Do I really have to make a choice?]

"I don’t want to choose between you two," Evania said and the two looked like their soul was shattered.

[So, her choice was Alwin after all. Someone else stole her heart while she was here.] Darcus and Orpheus were disheartened. They looked visibly depressed.

"Princess Evania, could please clarify what you mean? Are you saying you do not like them both? Or you cannot choose between them?" Arabella spoke up since the two misunderstood.

"Oh, what I meant was, as I have answered before you helped me recover some of my memories, you are both so outstanding. I feel bad having to make the choice," Evania explained.

"Can’t I just keep you both?" Evania added.

"Eh?!" Everyone in the room gasped.

’Is that allowed in their culture? Her thoughts still really surprise me. But that may be possible indeed if it was allowed in their territory.’

Evania was the heir apparent so she may be allowed to have more than one spouse. Now that Arabella thought about it, that may be the solution to this.

"Oops! Did I just say that out loud?!" Evania looked around and covered her mouth when realized what she had done. It was a thought she meant for herself, but she said it out loud.

"Princess, what’s that supposed to mean?" Orpheus blinked repeatedly.

"Don’t ask!" Evania covered her face with both hands in embarrassment.

"But my lady, does this mean, you like us both even after recovering your most recent memories?"

Darcus was hurt since of course, he was hoping Evania would choose her.

"W-Well, I..." Evania gulped.

"I’m so sorry, Darcus."

Darcus was wide-eyed at that.

His skin turned so pale since being the one to receive an apology meant he was getting rejected or Evania’s feelings for him were completely gone so she could not make her choice easily.

If she still loved Darcus as she did before, she would have already chosen him as she had repeatedly done in the past.

But this time it was different. Having difficulty choosing between them meant Darcus and Orpheus were equal to her now regardless of their past feelings and relationship as lovers.

"I do have my most memories now. I know I once loved and adored you so much. I would have chosen to die if I were to marry someone else and not you," Evania continued.

[She would have chosen to die?! Is that why she did not mind leaving her body behind?!] Orpheus balled his fists.

[I love her that much too. Even now. But why is she speaking about it in the past tense?] Darcus gulped nervously.

"I could never accept marrying someone else."

[I see. I was indeed the one who pushed her to go that far. If I had convinced my father to withdraw the marriage arrangements, she wouldn’t have had to go through so much.] Orpheus bit his lip.

"But you did not fight for me until the end while I never gave up on you. You accepted father’s decision when he made an ultimatum."

[Is she choosing Orpheus?!!!] Darcus was petrified and speechless.

"I..." Darcus opened his mouth to speak but closed it again.

[No, I should not make any excuses about that. I indeed relented. I thought it was the best choice for her. But this happened instead. I should have fought for her no matter what His Majesty said. She must have indeed been so disappointed back then.]

"I deeply apologize for that, my lady."

[Evania did not know, but His Majesty threatened to exile Darcus back then. He also said he would prohibit Darcus from ever seeing Evania ever again and would not allow any form of communication between them. Darcus relented since he concluded it was better to still be able to see and protect Evania than never see her again. Even if it meant allowing her to marry me.] Orpheus understood his rival.

’I see. Evania was hurt that Darcus gave up and decided to simply watch her from afar while she never gave up on him. She did not know Darcus was threatened by her father.’

Arabella was absorbed in the love story of these three. She understood how painful it was to be separated from someone you thought was the love of your life.

"I’m not blaming you. I understand you had your reasons. I also did not want to ruin your future, so I ran away alone. I could not stomach marrying someone else and letting you watch me be with another man. That was why I did not tell you I was leaving," Evania clarified.

"I would have gladly eloped with you, if I had known you would run away, my lady," Darcus also opened how he felt back then.

"Eh? But you had your responsibilities at home," Evania frowned at Darcus.

Darcus had a bittersweet smile on his face as he said, "Wherever you are is my future and my happiness. Nothing else matters if I can be with you."

’Oh my,’ Arabella understood why Evania fell for this man.

"Eh?" Evania blinked repeatedly. Her face turned red.

[ I thought he had always been loyal to his duties. How can he say that so easily? Now my heart is racing wild. That’s cheating.]
