Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 562: You are Evania, the Princess of the Shadows
Chapter 562: You are Evania, the Princess of the Shadows
"What’s that supposed to mean, Your Majesty? If he’s not human, then what is he?" Renee blinked repeatedly.
"Alwin is an elf. Don’t you think he resembles one from the books I had been reading months ago?"
"An elf?!"
[Her Majesty had been reading a lot of books about elves months ago indeed. I saw some of it and Alwin does resemble the descriptions and illustrations, particularly his out-of-this-world beauty and his gorgeous long hair.]
"But he doesn’t have pointed ears. If elves are true, then don’t they have pointed ears as those books have described?"
"Yes. He had hidden his pointed ears with magic. Would you like to see his real appearance? Should I call him?"
"Yes! Yes, please, Your Majesty!" Renee perked up. She was confused earlier but now, she was excited.
Arabella was right to use Alwin as the example since it would make Renee believe things much more easily.
"Alwin," Arabella called, and he appeared after a second.
"You summoned me, Your Majesty," Alwin pretended to be innocent of the topic. He used magic to hide the discoloration of half of his body.
[It’s ALWIN!!! I can finally see him again after so long!] Renee could barely behave in her seat. She gawked at Alwin while internally squealing.
Arabella felt bad for Darcus and Orpheus.
"Can you please show us your real appearance?" Arabella requested.
Alwin simply nodded and undid the spell that made him look like a normal human.
"Oh, my goodness!!! It’s true!" Renee gasped and gawked at Alwin even more than before.
[He is even more beautiful in his real appearance!! This is so sinful! How can someone be this ethereal?! I feel like I can die in peace after my eyes were blessed to be graced by such a divine-looking being. He looks much colder yet more powerful and intimidating in this appearance. But it makes him even more alluring. I want to marry him!]
’Oh my, that’s going too far.’
{Alwin you may go. Letting her see you in that appearance is dangerous.} Arabella instructed.
"If that’s all, I’m taking my leave," Alwin said and vanished before Renee could say a word.
"Do you believe now?"
"Yes! I believe it, Your Majesty," Renee nodded her head enthusiastically. It was as if she was drugged as if seeing Alwin’s true appearance.
"Alright. Drink some tea and calm down. We still have a lot to discuss, Queen Evelyn," Arabella addressed her formally.
"Oh, my apologies," Renee automatically sat up straight and obediently drank tea gracefully. Being addressed as Queen Evelyn still made her act the way she did when she lived as Evelyn.
[Right. She knows I’m a former queen. That was so embarrassing. But I couldn’t help it. Chester was nothing compared to Alwin. Alwin is like a divinity in that form. It’s so amazing! So, elves do exist. But what does that have to do with our conversation earlier? Why is she telling me about all these if they were tightly kept secrets.]
"Alwin and the elves are called the long-lived races. And Renee, you are one of them," Arabella did not prolong it anymore.
"I’m an elf?!" Renee was confused. "How could that be?"
"Not an elf. You are among the long-lived races but a different kind. You belong to a kind called the Shadows, and your real name is Evania."
"W-what?! Hold on, Your Majesty. How could this be? I have lived three lives perfectly as a human all this time," Renee did not understand.
"Yes, you have indeed lived those lives. You lived as Queen Evelyn, the sickly girl, and now as Renee. But the truth is, none of them are the real you. You have only borrowed their bodies and continued living their lives after they passed on," Arabella revealed the heavy truth.
"W-wait. Your Majesty, is this some kind of jest? How could I have not been the three? I lived and died as them. I have the memories," Renee was even more puzzled now.
"As I have said earlier, this is the truth that you must know even if it hurts. Even if it sounds impossible. I wouldn’t waste time discussing these with you if none of these are true," Arabella said, and Renee was silenced.
[She looks dead serious. But how could that be?!]
"For you to understand, listen to everything I have to say first even if they sound unbelievable," Arabella emphasized.
Renee nodded, even more nervous about what else she would hear.
"This is the story about you that I have been able to learn so far. You are Evania, the Princess of the Shadows.
"You fell in love with your personal guard and became lovers with him. But you were engaged to someone you did not want to marry.
"You wanted to break off your engagement to marry your lover, but your father heavily opposed it because you were supposed to become the Queen that would lead the Shadows after him.
"In the territory of the Shadows where you live, it was always nighttime, so you only ever see the moon and the stars, but mostly a dark sky.
"You did not want to become the Queen of such a place since your dream was to see the sun for yourself and to live somewhere with abundant sunlight with your lover.
"Since both of those were about to be denied to you, you ran away from your homeland no matter the cost. In the process, you were able to escape only with your soul. Your body was left in your homeland, and it remains there even now. Likewise, you forgot about all your original memories due to exiting the gate without approval.
"Shadows have the ability to leave their bodies and completely discard their original body if they wanted to. And they can occupy someone else’s body as well.
"The gate you excited from was close to Zygos and so your soul wandered there. You happened to encounter Evelyn when she just passed on and you occupied her body unconsciously.
"Since you had no memories of your original self, you mistook hers as your own and lived as her from then on until you died. The same happened with the sickly girl and this body you now occupy. The real Renee was already dead. Her soul had left her body and probably already got reincarnated."
Arabella revealed everything in one go and Renee was overwhelmed. She was speechless as she tried to process it all.
