’If she went to Zygos all alone when she’s this easy to tempt, how will she survive?’ Arabella was rather relieved that this was Darcus and Orpheus, people that Evania’s family trusted.

If it were someone else, she would have to remind Renee not to be too trusting of every pretty face she sees.

"It’s alright, my lady. It’s still early morning," Darcus tempted.

"Or do you have to go to work now?" Orpheus inquired.

Arabella already told them though that she had given Renee today as a day off because she had passed out yesterday.

"No, I was given a day off," Renee said, finally accepting their offer.

[Now that I thought about it, Her Majesty must have sent that letter telling me to rest because I passed out.] Renee just realized this because Darcus and Orpheus occupied her mind.

’Things seem to be going well. Maybe, we can officially introduce Darcus and Orpheus to her sooner than planned,’ Arabella hoped Renee would not react badly now once she learns her true identity.

Arabella then left with Alwin and her guards to give the three some privacy. Only Riley remained there and maintained his invisibility.

She then headed to the dining hall and had breakfast with Alwin. He hadn’t had breakfast as well, so they ate together.

"She’s already fawning over them though they had just met yesterday," Alwin complained.

"Perhaps she could feel it instinctively that they were not dangerous people. She already noticed that they seemed familiar," Arabella explained.

"But did she need to pass out? I thought something went wrong. But she just got too excited," Alwin continued his rant.

"Just be grateful instead that nothing went wrong. It can’t be helped that she passed out. We both know that she’s obsessed with beauty. Yet, she had been stuck in the palace doing routine work and unable to mingle. Then suddenly, she meets two beauties willing to pamper her," Arabella pointed out.

"I don’t understand what’s so great with beauties," Alwin rolled his eyes. He had been back to being somewhat moody ever since he returned from Umbra.

"Because you are a beauty yourself. And one who wouldn’t need to worry about aging for several thousand years or for the rest of your life."

She recalled Alvis who was Alwin’s uncle but did not seem old at all. He could be mistaken as Alwin’s older brother instead.

"I know that I look better than others. But why does it matter that much?"

Alwin didn’t understand the insecurities of those who were not that blessed in appearance since he was born beautiful.

Arabella may not understand it very well either but reaching her forties in the past life had helped her understand it a little bit.

Being able to hear people’s thoughts enlightened her about a lot of things as well. She had heard various thoughts when came to this.

People who were confident in their original appearance do exist.

But a lot of people have insecurities about their appearance and their abilities and often compare themselves with the people in their immediate surroundings, to the ones they look up to and the ones they hate.

Listening to Renee’s thoughts for one had taught Arabella a lot.

"Unlike the long-lived races, we humans are short-lived. So of course, we want to live our life to the fullest. We want to have everything we do not have and try every experience can get our hands on while we live. Life is short so we must maximize it," Arabella pointed out.

"And that includes the looks?" Alwin asked and took a bite of a slice of fruit.

"Yes, of course. We want to excel in everything even in our looks. Renee often had this thought: ’Why live being ugly when you can be beautiful?’ A lot of humans also think this way. If we notice something wrong with our looks, we find ways to correct it. Just look at how makeup, jewelry, and clothes sell so well here in the capital," she explained for Alwin to understand.

"Hmm, it does earn a lot of revenue. Nobles and commoners alike buy them a lot and wear a different one each time," Alwin noted.

He, on the other hand, wore the same cloak and outfit all the time and still looked effortlessly divine.

He didn’t need to put on makeup either since he looked so perfect even without it. There was no need for accessories as well since he already looked glamorous even without them.

Alwin could maintain his appearance with magic as well, so he did not need to use skincare products. He never needed to find something to improve his appearance, so he had been focused on his skills.

"Yes, everyone chooses what suits them to make themselves look more presentable, beautiful, and appealing not only for other people but also for themselves," Arabella reflected on this as well.

It may be just vanity to others. But that wasn’t always the case.

Beauty should also be on the inside indeed. But beauty had become a necessity on the outside as well since people judge first based on what they see.

Understanding the inside takes a lot of time so the basis was usually outside appearance first. Thus, they had to ensure they looked beautiful or presentable as well.

"There are also a lot of standards and beating those gives us a sense of satisfaction. As you can see, noble society is so obsessed with maintaining appearances. Everyone wanted to look in their most presentable selves. Even Ferdinand and I always have to maintain appearances," she cited.

"It’s such a pain so I never attended any social events. Do you not get tired doing it every single day," Alwin seems to be lazy when it comes to this. He was like Ferdinand indeed. They both disliked social events.

Alwin only attended when required as the Master of the Magic Tower. And he still wore his cloak that hid his face. He didn’t want to have to dress up and all that and maintain all the manners and etiquette.

Especially since he had been living quite a free life doing what he wanted on Ferdinand’s Island.
