Chapter 541: You May Begin Working Again

"I see. Since our daughter seems to be determined, we will allow her to do this. But please keep your word, Your Majesty. Our daughter is very capable, and she’s determined to keep working as your assistant."

"I will keep my word. But only if Narcissa keeps hers," Arabella smiled.

’I know that. And that’s exactly why I did all this,’ she wanted to add.

If Narcissa does not learn her lesson after doing that much offense, she might become even worse. And it would not be healthy for the Empire if all those who had connections with her would follow her example.

"I promise, I will keep my word, Your Majesty," Narcissa bowed and swore again.

Arabella was rather relieved that Narcissa’s apology had sincerity compared to how empty it was before.

People knew the Ryvalehs were close with the Reginalds, so they began to wonder if Narcissa was just passed and selected because of their connection with the Prime Minister.

After Narcissa, herself experienced getting doubted by people, she realized how painful and infuriating it was to be judged because of her background. Especially since she had passed the selection and the exams with her own abilities, not by connections as people had begun to doubt.

Arabella remained silent pretending to ponder if she should accept Narcissa again. She had already made her decisions though.

Narcissa and her parents waited nervously. They could not afford to get Narcissa fired due to all the rumors it would spur.

That was one of the reasons Arabella gave Narcissa a chance to choose and did not have everything she had done revealed. If they went to court, Narcissa would be ruined. She would no longer be able to work anywhere unless it was somewhere her Household managed and owned.

Narcissa’s knowledge and skills would also go to waste if she was not somewhere she could be maximized.

Thus, Arabella was already set on having her return if she was going to apologize with some semblance of sincerity, regret, and a sign that she finally understood the gravity of what she had done.

Since Narcissa did, Arabella was willing to give her another chance to be her assistant. And she hoped Narcissa would not disappoint her this time. The girl was indeed very capable, and she would be very useful if she stopped her bullying tendencies.

[Why is Her Majesty not saying anything? Did she feel insulted because of my parents?! I told them I would go alone for today, but they insisted on coming. What should I do?! I will be a laughingstock if I am fired.] Narcissa turned pale and gripped at her skirt.

Arabella felt bad so she finally said, "Alright. You may begin working again tomorrow. Please do your best."

Narcissa gasped.

"Thank you! Thank you, Your Majesty," Narcissa ended tearing up in relief.

"Our deepest gratitude, Your Majesty," Narcissa’s parents bowed as well.

"Alright, then. Narcissa, are you ready to apologize so I can summon them here?"

This was where the real tests began.

Arabella wanted to see how Narcissa would apologize after she was already accepted back. And she would keep observing how Narcissa would behave from now on after she was given another chance.

"Yes, Your Majesty," Narcissa was ready, but her parents were still clearly against it despite already agreeing.

"If you cannot stomach witnessing Narcissa bow to others, you may depart and leave this to us," Arabella said to the parents.

[What’s that supposed to mean?! We would seem cowardly and too prideful if we did that.]

"We would like to see it for ourselves and also say our apologies."

Arabella then summoned her assistants who were bullied, and one of the kitchen staff who was beaten up and threatened.

However, she had Narcissa’s parents made invisible with magic first so her assistants would not be pressured to accept Narcissa’s apology because they were around.

"Greetings to Your Majesty," Ivan, Nadia, Odette, and the kitchen staff greeted upon entering. They froze when they saw Narcissa.

"Narcissa has something to say to you all," Arabella said, and they tensed up.

[Did she still insist on us cheating?!] Ivan glanced at his coworkers who were as tense as he was.

Narcissa gulped nervously at the look on their faces. She could tell they were thinking she was up to something again. They all had a negative image of her due to what she did to them.

She glanced at Arabella, wordlessly asking if she should begin.

Arabella nodded her head.

Whether they forgive Narcissa or not is entirely up to them.

"Everyone, I’m so sorry for what I did to you. I accused you without proof, went to my own conclusions, and put the law into my hands. I understand now that I didn’t have the right nor the power to do any of those. My deepest apologies for harming you and causing you a lot of trouble. I will do my best to practice the Civil Service Code of Ethics from now on. I hope you can keep working with me," Narcissa bowed.

The four were surprised that a noble of high status was bowing to them. They glanced at Arabella for help, but she simply smiled.

"It’s up to you if you forgive her or not."

The kitchen staff, still afraid his work and his family might still be implicated, accepted it immediately.

"As long as you don’t get angry if we eat together, do not get some of our work anymore, and do not have Ivan beaten up again," Nadia was the next who let up. She still believed she was a commoner so she thought she should agree too.

"I promise I won’t do any of those anymore."

"Alright then. I forgive you," Nadia forgave easily. She had gone through much difficult things so she did not perceive the offense was that bad.

"Thank you!"

That was two.

"Oh, and I swear I’m trying hard to learn more about noble etiquette here in Riva, so I won’t irritate you. Odette is educating me," Nadia added.

"You do need to learn a lot of things when it comes to etiquette, but I promise I won’t embarrass you in front of the others anymore."

Narcissa was bothered by Nadia’s lack of manners especially in her speech.
