Chapter 538: The Shame of the Family

The men were executed days ago since all the proof against them was already there.

Sonia and the Head Butler were also supposed to be executed. However, for the sake of Brent and Monica, they were exiled instead.

Brent and Monica were supposed to go with the two. However, the Head Butler’s parents were against it since the children were innocent and still part of the ducal family.

They begged the Duke to allow them to raise the children in a secluded area in the duchy so they wouldn’t remind him of the betrayal of the two.

The Duke agreed as long as the children were taught and raised properly and if the children would rather be with their grandparents instead of their parents.

Sonia was shocked and horrified when Brent and Monica chose to be with their grandparents even if it meant they were to never meet again.

Sonia loved her children so much, but they did not choose her.

With that Sonia and the Head Butler were kicked out of the duchy and forbidden to ever return unless given a pardon.

The Duke originally decided to exile them so Brent and Monica would still grow up with their parents, but even the two young children were embarrassed and felt ashamed because of them. Thus, they decided to be with their grandparents instead.

It was the most painful punishment for the illicit couple.

But they reap what they sow.

Duke Olivier showed them mercy. But their own family and their children did not.

"I see," Arabella sighed deeply after Riley’s report. She knew how painful it was for parents to be separated from their children.

But with what Sonia and the Head Butler did, it was their fault. Duke Olivier already gave them a chance to be with their children but the two refused. There’s nothing they could do about that anymore.

"Let him meet with Dimo so they can speak. He must be eager to speak with his son after everything. And ask them if Dimo would continue staying in the Magic Tower or if he would go back to Olivier. Ah, but do not let him leave until after two weeks so I will be able to see Dimo first," Arabella instructed.

"Yes, Your Majesty," Riley teleported back to Riva.

Arabella wanted to be able to say her goodbyes. They couldn’t right now since she had an agreement with Ferdinand that she would not leave Estrella until he returned or until a month passed without him.

Thankfully, when Riley returned to give her a report, Dimo decided to continue studying in the Magic Tower. Duke Olivier approved of it since it had been a while since he saw his son enjoying something and telling stories animatedly with bright eyes.

Another two weeks quickly went by, but Ferdinand and Alvis did not return or contact them.

Arabella let two days more pass, but Ferdinand did not return either. She was becoming truly edgy, but she had to be strong and focus on their work so there would be no problems when he returned.

The time came for Arabella to speak with Narcissa again, so she decided to head back to Valeria. Rendell, Rowan, and Riley would be with her like last time.

She also had Ronald and Ivan return with her so they could go on a break or visit their families after their stay in a location they did not even know.

Arabella then summoned Narcissa to visit her office in the Imperial Palace.

After her talk with Narcissa last time, Arabella received letters of apology from Narcissa’s family, and they begged her to give Narcissa one more chance.

And her response to them was the same as what she told Narcissa. She already gave Narcissa a chance. But the option depends on what they decide to do after a month.

"Greetings to Your Imperial Majesty," Narcissa greeted. She had arrived with her family. They also bowed and greeted her politely.

"Your Majesty, we are deeply sorry for the problems our daughter has caused. We have scolded her a lot and had her re-educated in the past month. Please give her another chance to prove herself worthy to be your assistant," Narcissa’s father asked.

"I believe I only summoned Narcissa to be here," Arabella responded coolly and they froze.

If Ferdinand had emperor mode, she had her empress mode. And she was long used to doing it after 22 years as an Empress in her past life.

She knew they came here not just to ask forgiveness but also to warn her that Ryvaleh was highly influential. Embarrassing their family meant they might retaliate against her later. Along with all the families that support them.

But Arabella now had some of the support of six more of the most powerful households in Valeria. Even if they were not loyal to her yet, as long as their children remained as her assistants, they would give her some support for their children’s sake.

They cannot intimidate her easily. And even if they were able to do so, she would not show it.

[She looks colder than she did before. Did Narcissa tell us everything or did she hold something back?]

[She’s still so young but she oozes this much authority? Is this how they trained her in Lobelius? I thought she was a pampered young princess so it would be easy to sway her if we appeared in person. But she clearly stated we are unwelcome here.]

"Our apologies, Your Majesty. After we heard that you summoned her, we wanted to come and apologize in person," they replied.

"I am grateful you thought of apologizing in person. But please note that next time, I will not entertain uninvited guests or guests without prior letters to visit. Please inform me in advance next time. My schedule is fully packed so I cannot meet other guests who were not in my schedule," Arabella reminded them.
