Chapter 526: Former Fairy Queen
"The Fairy Queen and I were close friends. She’s akin to a sister to me. The fairies are kind and generous. They lived right beside our territory, and they always made our flowers bloom. I prefer trees, but their flowers are pleasing and invigorating to everyone."
Alvis’ eyes darted to the windows. He stared into the distance with nostalgia in his eyes.
"Did the Great Primordial tell Your Majesty about the Great War?" Alvis resolved to address her the Valerian way to make things easier.
"Yes, he did."
"The Fairy Queen died back then," his shoulders sagged at the memory.
"She asked me for help. But I was occupied.
"I was also trying to heal and protect my people, so I couldn’t go to her side.
"Because of that she and her husband overused their powers to save and protect the fairies and their homeland.
"I wasn’t even able to see their body because they offered and used up everything to save their kind.
"Their fairies retold that their bodies turned to dust and vanished after they used a series of ancient spells despite their wounded state."
Alvis heavily regretted being unable to help.
’But it wasn’t his fault.’
From what Arabella heard from Ferdinand and Raymond, humans were set on eliminating all the long-lived races back then, so they all had their circumstances.
Alvis said that by offering up their remaining life, the King and Queen of Fairies were able to save a lot of fairies.
They concentrated their magic in one part of their territory, gathered as many of the fairies as they could there, and prevented the entry of humans and all weapons.
That part was the only place that wasn’t burned in the fairies’ abode.
Alvis later brought it to the new fairies’ abode in Estrella beside the elves’ new territory. It was made as a holy site in memory of the King and Queen of Fairies.
"I mistook Your Majesty for the Fairy Queen due to the striking resemblance. And I can tell that the soul is the same, so I said those words earlier," Alvis explained.
’So, I was the Fairy Queen 6000 years ago?’ Arabella gulped.
She saw the Fairy Queen’s image in Alvis’ eyes, and they indeed look so alike. Except the Fairy Queen had mesmerizing rainbow eyes, gorgeous mystical wings of the same color, and a gradient hair starting from white to light blue, indigo, and purple.
"I see. So, you are saying that I was once the Fairy Queen. And now, I am her reincarnation," Arabella summed up.
"Yes. The Great Primordial didn’t have the chance to meet the Fairy Queen. But if he did, he would have recognized the soul was the same as well," Alvis added.
Ferdinand was in his destructive hibernation when the late Fairy Queen lived. And she died before Ferdinand and the other Primordial Dragons were awakened from their supposed eternal slumber.
Even Raymond and Rendell were not acquainted with the Fairy Queen and King either, so they did not know about it.
Alwin, Riley, Rowan, and the others were just children back then or were born after the Great War, so they only heard about the late King and Queen of Fairies from their elders.
"You said she had children. How many? And how are they?" Arabella was curious.
"She had five children with the Fairy King. The two sons and three daughters. Despite injuries, they all survived the Great War and I have watched over them since then."
As if compensating for his inability to help them in their time of need, Alvis ensured that the children of the two grew up safe and healthy.
"Do you believe in reincarnation, Your Majesty?" Alvis eyed her.
"Yes, I do now. Alwin and His Majesty both talked to me about it."
[I see. That’s a relief.]
’I experienced it myself in a weird way. Mine is more like going back in time as Alwin said.’
"Then, please allow me to apologize for the past."
"Eh? It may be true that I have her soul. But I am not the Fairy Queen. She had passed on and I am a different person."
Arabella had explained this to Ferdinand too when he apologized to her about what happened with the reincarnations before her.
"Yes, that’s also true. But you still have the same soul. Please allow me to express my apologies," Alvis implored.
Arabella gazed into his eyes, and he looked burdened about the past. He looked like he wouldn’t be free from it unless he apologized.
"Alright, then. But my response will be from my perspective," Arabella then agreed.
Alvis then expressed his regrets about not being able to help the Fairy Queen and the fairies.
He apologized with such heartfelt emotions and regret. He seemed to be truly close with the fairies.
Due to this Arabella decided to speak her thoughts even though she originally thought of just listening to the apology.
"From what I heard of the Great War, I believe the Fairy Queen did not blame or despise you for anything.
"When you responded that you were also fighting, she must have understood you were in the same situation.
"She’s a ruler herself so she must have understood that you needed to prioritize your people first before helping someone else’s.
"I believe, if she was listening now, she would say that there was no need to apologize since you were not at fault in the first place.
"She would have never blamed you for her death either since from your story, she must have already known the consequences of overusing her powers.
"And she would have been grateful instead that you have guided and protected their children in their stead."
"I see. Thank you for those words, Your Majesty. You are indeed the reincarnation of the Fairy Queen," Alvis smiled.
[Right. With how kind she was, she would indeed say something along those lines. I feel lighter after saying these out loud and hearing those words from her.]
Alvis already knew the Fairy Queen would have never blamed him.
But he was burdened because he couldn’t help thinking that he was only making up an excuse not to feel responsible for her death.
However, after hearing someone else come to the same conclusion just from listening to what happened in the past, he could finally think that he was not running away from guilt and responsibility.
