Chapter 521: Open A Gate [Bonus Chapter]

"I will be heading to Umbra to search for Alwin," Ferdinand informed her, and Arabella gulped.

She couldn’t tell him to go so easily after she had that dream. She wanted Alwin to be found soon too. But how long would Ferdinand be gone?

Didn’t Raymond say that the time in Umbra was flowing differently?

. . .

From Arabella’s dream, she learned this already happened in her previous life. Since Alwin returned then without Ferdinand going to Umbra, it meant Alwin may be able to return here without Ferdinand having to head there as well.

From what she could understand from her dream and what she learned from her memories of the past, Raymond may have gone to Umbra to find Alwin but did not find him. Alwin returned on his own later when the war in Valeria had fully erupted and Ferdinand was already dead in his human body.

Alwin himself said it took so long. Several years to be exact.

The Ferdinand now would not be able to wait that long, especially with how worried he was.

One thing Arabella noticed in this life was that ever since Ferdinand learned to understand and express his feelings, he was more caring with the people he treasured now. And he was becoming more vocal and expressive about it even when it came to Alwin and the others, not just her.

Ferdinand now understood that Alwin is important to him so he would not allow Alwin to remain missing for years when who knows what may have happened or could happen to him.

Especially with all the people Ferdinand had watched die before him.

Arabella could tell from how Ferdinand talked about the past that even though he thought he wasn’t that much affected by those deaths; Arabella could see that he was very much saddened by those.

She knew it must have felt lonely and terrible to keep losing all the people he once mingled with. It was hard for him to experience all those losses but he had denied to himself that it wasn’t. That it was just the cycle of life as he termed it.

Ferdinand would be too worried about Alwin if he just stayed here so it was indeed better for him to go and search for Alwin instead.

Moreover, a lot of things have already changed in this life compared to the past. What if Alwin encountered something he did not expect? What if he was facing new dangers that weren’t what he experienced before? What if he was in dire need of help?

Arabella understood that they indeed simply could not wait for his return. Ferdinand and Raymond trying to search for him from here hadn’t borne any fruit, so they needed to do something else. And if that is heading to Estrella, then so be it.

Because of her dream, Arabella has a bad feeling about this, but she cannot tell Ferdinand not to go. She would sound so selfish. And she didn’t want to seem like she didn’t care about Alwin.

She wanted Alwin to be found as soon as possible too.

But what she was worried about was what if the time in Umbra does flow differently as Raymond said in her dream? Ferdinand may end up staying there longer than he should.

"When will you go?" was all Arabella could say despite her worries.

"As soon as I get permission from Elrond."

"I see."

"Are you alright? You don’t look well," Ferdinand cupped her face.

"Eh? I’m fine," Arabella did her best to smile. She was wide-eyed when Ferdinand embraced her.

[Is she worried?]

’Was it too obvious in my face?’

"Don’t worry. I have been to Umbra before. I don’t remember exactly when anymore but I have gone there several times in the past when it was not yet separated," Ferdinand explained.

"Oh, you’ve been there? What was it like?"

"Just the same as here but they have different needs and practices. I don’t remember much since it was a long time ago."

"I see. It’s not dangerous for you right?"

"It’s not. I wouldn’t have allowed Alwin to go if that place posed a danger to me. I was assured Alwin would be just fine so I let him go. Something must have happened. After my meetings, Regis, Walter, and I, went to the gate Alwin used to enter Umbra. But none of us could enter. The gate was blocked for some reason. We were not able to penetrate the barrier."

"Blocked? Maybe that’s why Alwin cannot go out and you stopped feeling his presence," Arabella sat up.

Alwin did not mention the gate, malfunctioning or whatsoever in the past. He said he had to keep fighting monsters for so long and got lost so many times due to the magic protecting Umbra. But he didn’t say the gate was blocked.

"Yes, that’s possible. That’s why I must speak with Elrond. I will visit him later and inform him of my plans since I’m going to ask him to open a gate to Umbra."

"He could open a gate?" Arabella stared at her husband.

Alwin took a long time searching for a gate in the past life, but Elrond could actually open one.

"Yes. All primordial dragons used to be able to open a gate. But after all the new rules were established, we are not allowed to do so anymore. The spell and know-how were removed from our memory so we wouldn’t open one on our own."

"Are they always that strict?"

’They even went to the point of removing something from their memories just so they wouldn’t disobey. Were the primordials that disobedient that it had to be implemented that way?’ Arabella wondered.

Ferdinand did seem like the kind that would do something he was told not to do. Were all the primordial dragons like him?

"No. But all of us would likely still open gates just to spite them," Ferdinand chuckled.

"Ah, I see. No wonder."

She was right, after all.

[Her responses had been plain since earlier.]

"I’m sorry I must leave you again. I didn’t want to go too, but I’m worried something may happen to Alwin," Ferdinand cupped her face and kissed her.

’He still noticed?’

"I know. I understand. Just please come back safely," Arabella smiled.

Ferdinand hugged her and gave her another kiss, noticing she was worried.

"I will. Since I will head there using a gate from here, I will use my original body. I won’t die even if I receive all sorts of attacks, so you don’t have to worry," Ferdinand tried to assure her.

It was a relief that he would go using his almost indestructible dragon body, but his latter statement got her worried.
