Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 47: Division of Labor
Chapter 47: Division of Labor
For the other assistants, Arabella would choose one from each of the most powerful families in Valeria since she had to get them as allies.
Getting one assistant from each of the main houses would help her to get closer to them.
As a vast empire, Valeria had several kingdoms, duchies, marquessates, counties, and smaller territories in it.
It especially increased during Ferdinand’s time as he was often on the battlefield conquering this and that ever since he was fifteen.
After all, Ferdinand was Emperor for thirteen years now while Raymond was Prime Minister for five years.
Ferdinand became the Emperor when he was ten years old after both of his parents died.
Raymond’s father, the younger sibling of the Former Emperor, remained as the Prime Minister until Ferdinand turned eighteen and the seat was succeeded by Raymond. Since then, Ferdinand became even more active in war and the Empire further widened.
With the exception of the Imperial Family which was sovereign, there were seven Households that were especially powerful and influential in Valeria. These Households trained and educated their children to the best of their abilities to ensure they maintain a strong political and social influence.
This meant seven of Arabella’s assistants would come from these houses.
Include Ivan and she already has eight. She would look for the other two from the other houses.
Raymond said she should begin with five first since he thought she might get overwhelmed by them.
But Arabella wouldn’t so she would choose ten of her assistants all at once since she might not have the time to look for more once she gets busy.
"Eunice, please organize these profiles per territory, household, and rank in the Imperial Civil Service Exam."
Arabella chose Eunice since she knew the maid was fit for this. She would have gotten her as one of her assistants in the office if she was not already a maid.
Likewise, Eunice would be required to take the exam before she could become an office assistant.
"Yes, Your Majesty," Eunice obediently accepted her job.
"Inform me once you are done," Arabella said and headed to her room. She had summoned her other maids since she had another job for them.
And, yes, even Renee. Renee was still with her. She cannot just fire Renee without proper reason. And so far, Renee had done nothing suspicious yet.
Arabella had scheduled her maids to alternately serve her so no one would get jealous of the other.
And if she gives one a task, she gives everyone something to do to prevent them from thinking she was showing favoritism.
"Everyone, I asked you all to come because there are a lot of things we need to do," Arabella smiled and her maids waited both nervously and excitedly.
"Renee, Carla, can you visit dress shops and buy dresses for me? Most of my clothes are still from Lobelius. I want most of my clothes to be something made by tailors here."
"Yes, Your Majesty, I will obey your orders. I am honored to be allowed to choose dresses for Your Majesty," Carla happily accepted.
After all, it was a huge task to choose which dress the Empress could wear.
However . . .
"Your Majesty, shouldn’t we invite the dressmakers in the palace to make custom-made dresses for you?"
[Why should the beautiful Empress wear just anything? Everything should be custom-made.]
Renee had something else in mind.
"I already have a lot of dresses being made by the best tailors of Valeria. While waiting for those, I need some dresses for everyday use. If we ask the tailors to make custom-made ones again, it would take a lot of time."
If she kept wearing Lobelius clothing in the Empire, the people could misunderstand it.
They might think she was not yet accepting Valeria as her home and Ferdinand as her husband.
She doesn’t know who the source was, but the rumor about the fact she once eloped with Andrew was known by the knights.
Who knows just how wide such a rumor had already reached?
Arabella had to show allegiance to Valeria and affection for Ferdinand even in the most basic things. She has to conform to the norms and show she’s adapting to life in the Empire.
She had also been eating Valerian food after the stocks Aletha got from Lobelius run out. The chefs were delighted to see her eat their home cuisine. They have also been improving greatly with how they cook and plate food for ladies.
"I believe you two can choose beautiful and comfortable dresses for me, right?"
[I see. I just have to choose the most beautiful dresses.] Renee concluded to choose only the prettiest.
"Yes, Your Majesty, we will obey your order."
Carla was talkative so she would surely talk a lot with the tailors and shop owners. Carla could help spread the word about Arabella and Ferdinand getting along well.
After all, Ferdinand visited her chamber every night for a month before heading for the borders. He also hugged and kissed Arabella in front of the knights when she went to see him off.
It would be good if the people heard about it so they would think the Emperor and Empress already have a good relationship and her eloping with Andrew was a thing of the past.
It was even better if people learned her maids were buying Valeria dresses for her.
Once Carla and Renee had left, it was Irene and Aletha’s turn next.
"Irene, Aletha, I want you both to redecorate my room. I had been thinking of changes I wanted to do for a while. I have listed them down so I won’t forget," she explained to them the change in colors, design, curtains, and bedding. "Eunice would join you both once she’s done with a task a gave her earlier."
Irene was naive and innocent but she was kind so she wouldn’t do anything suspicious in Arabella’s room. Renee meanwhile unnerved her so Arabella had sent the latter with Carla to buy dresses.
Meanwhile, Aletha knows her preferences so Arabella doesn’t have to worry much about redecorating her room. And once Eunice was done with her task, she could help Aletha and Irene.
