Chapter 44: I Like You Very Much [Bonus Chapter]

"It’s alright to cry. It just meant you were truly happy. I am glad that my husband seems to like me," she assured her Ferdinand.

Arabella honestly wanted to cry. They had been through so much before they got to this point. An entire lifetime. They had to be in their second life before their misunderstanding can be clarified and they can reconcile like this.

Ferdinand may not be able to remember it just as she does, but the strength and intensity of his feelings root in what happened between them in the past. Their tragic end.

’This time, I won’t allow it to happen again. Let’s get along well in this life.’

Arabella held back her tears since Ferdinand might misunderstand it again. He might conclude she was just forcing herself even if her heart still aches for Andrew. Which, she wasn’t.

"Yes. I like you a lot. I like you very much," Ferdinand eagerly said and his face turned red when he realized what he just said.

[It just escaped my mouth! Raymond said I should tell her exactly how I feel since she might think I’m only after her body if I just kept visiting in her chambers without saying anything. But isn’t this too embarrassing? How can I just say this all the time?]

’Raymond must have lectured him again after the conversation with me and Alwin.’

Arabella was rather getting embarrassed too but seeing Ferdinand like this was so foreign and cute. It makes her want to tease him. She caressed his cheek.

Who would have thought he was shy about these things? It was probably why he didn’t say anything in the past.

Ferdinand held her hand and leaned into her touch, asking for more attention. She flinched when he nuzzled her hand.

[I really like you. I like you a lot. I love you. I love you more than anything. Please be mine forever.]

She might just pass out from Ferdinand’s thoughts and actions without him saying anything.

There truly was no need to seduce him. If she made him fall even deeper, he might begin doing even more embarrassing things wherever he pleased.

For now, this was enough.

A cold breeze passed by and Ferdinand finally stopped his nuzzling and invited her to go back inside.

Arabella gazed one last time at the full moon and the starry night. They are the witnesses of her first step toward having a good relationship with Ferdinand and atoning for her sins.

’Please help me treasure and treat your descendant well,’ she prayed to the God of Dragons for the first time in so long.

Arabella and Ferdinand walked to her room hand in hand since he didn’t let go of her hand.

She flinched when he entered the room with her.

’Is he really going to sleep here tonight? What if he wants to consummate? What should I do?’

It was still quite far until the time to conceive Fermin comes. She wondered if normal preventive measures would work on a dragon’s seeds.

"I heard from Raymond, you wanted to begin working. Are you sure you want to begin soon? It’s a lot of work. We just got married. Shouldn’t you take it easy for now and get familiar with the palace first?" Ferdinand distracted her thoughts.

"I’m fine. I would like to begin learning now so I can support you in the future. I can learn more about the palace at the same time," Arabella smiled and Ferdinand looked so touched.

[She wants to support me?!!]

"I heard you and the Prime Minister have so much work to do. I thought I should help even a little. The people also won’t take a liking to a lazy Empress. I have to work if want them to like me."

[She had thought this much?!]

"You are such a good girl aren’t you?" Ferdinand patted her like she was a child insisting to help the adults.

"I’m not. I’m a Lady. No, a Madam now," she pouted.

’Geez. Just how old is he? He’s treating me like a child. Just wait till you see I can do well. I am forty. My mind at least."

[So adorable! She’s so cute when she pouts.]

’Can you focus? We’re talking about work,’ she wanted to say.

"Right. You are my wife. My Empress," Ferdinand kissed her hand. "I am happy that you are so thoughtful and eager to work. But please don’t push yourself. Learn at your own pace and don’t mind what others say too much. I’ll punish anyone who dares to badmouth you."

"Thank you."

’And please stop saying words that I never thought I would hear from you. My old heart won’t be able to take any more of such words.’

If she hadn’t learned to keep her composure for years, she would be blushing mad now.

A silent Ferdinand was scary but an expressive one is a bit too much for her even when she was trying to fall for him again.

[She just thanked me! Talking works after all. I should reward Raymond later. His tips and lectures are actually working. I thought he was being meddlesome at first, but it’s actually a great help.]

Ferdinand slept in her room that night with happy thoughts in his mind. In the morning, he left for the borders again.

Arabella was free to do as she pleased since then and so she asked to begin her lessons with Raymond.

Raymond taught her starting from the basics. He thought she was a fast learner when she knew exactly what to do after his discussions.

He tried making her do some paperwork and when she was able to do well, he looked so elated and asked her to temporarily be one of his assistants as part of her training.

Arabella agreed since doing real work would help to sharpen her skills so people wouldn’t be suspicious of why she knew exactly what to do as the Empress later.

Working at Raymond’s office also meant more chances of meeting his wife.
