Chapter 36: I Cannot Let You Go [Bonus Chapter]

Alwin explained the alternate body was derived from the original so it was still the same person. Only, the alternate body was just a fragment of the original.

Everything Alwin had been telling her since the beginning seemed to be impossible and unbelievable but Arabella no longer wanted to be shocked or so surprised. She simply assumed that anything is possible in Estrella.

"You are so easy to read and you thought you were able to fool milord?" Alwin mocked her when he was able to guess what she was thinking once again.

’Could he actually read minds? How can he guess what I am thinking about again and again?’ Arabella frowned. ’Am I truly that transparent?’

"There was nothing to worry about since a dragon’s body is untouchable when their souls are in their human body or when they are hibernating. They are protected by the mighty God of Dragons. The dragons are already so low in number so the God of Dragons protects them from going extinct."

Alwin also said Ferdinand had a lot of loyal people who guard their dragon form so not even a speck of dust would touch them. They were also protected by multilayer barriers and spells.

"His Highness was then bound by the rules and regulations of Estrella as he was dedicated and registered as His Majesty’s newborn son. The young master could no longer transform into his dragon form outside of Estrella."

Alwin explained it was a necessity to let Fermin’s dragon body stay in Estrella.

Through it, no matter what happens in Valeria, in the worst-case scenario, only Fermin’s human body would die but his soul would go to Estrella and occupy his dragon form instead of completely perishing.

"That was how His Highness is still alive now. His alternate body died but his soul returned to his original. When His Highness’s body in Valeria was about to be cremated, I cast a spell and made a dummy in exchange. I teleported his corpse to Estrella so it would return to His Highness."

The alternate body Fermin and Ferdinand had was apparently connected to their original body since it was made from their mana and a fragment of their heart. It has to return to their original body once they die since it was an important part of them.

It was just as Arabella had witnessed earlier when Ferdinand’s corpse turned to golden particles and was absorbed back into his body.

"His Highness threw a tantrum and went berserk when he suddenly woke up in his dragon form. He was horrified when he learned he had died in Valeria and wanted to go back. Especially since he was supposedly preparing for his birthday celebration with you," Alwin said, and Arabella’s chest tightened.

"His Highness kept going berserk since he didn’t want to leave your side yet. Only His Majesty can stop the young master so he had to stay here in Estrella for a while until His Highness came to accept he had to live his life here from then on."

’Is this why Ferdinand was not around even after Fermin died?! He was in Estrella to take care of Fermin in his real body?’ Arabella gawked at Alwin.

She had mistaken it as Ferdinand not caring about their son at all.

And because Ferdinand was not around even at their son’s burial, it was easy for her to believe when Renee told her Ferdinand was the real culprit behind the poisoning. That the one who was executed was just following his orders.

Who would have thought Ferdinand was in Estrella continuing to take care of their son when she no longer could?

There were simply too many things Arabella did not know.

If she was not left in the dark about these, she wouldn’t have misunderstood things.

"Once a dragon dies in his alternate body outside Estrella, he can no longer go outside again. His Highness could only go outside of Estrella again once he comes of age and if he was meant to find a mate outside the continent."

It was why Arabella was never able to see her son again. The laws of Estrella cannot be broken since they meant punishment from the gods and could even mean death.

Fermin had to stay in Estrella until he reaches adulthood. Judging from his young appearance, he still hadn’t reached it even though he was supposed to be in his twenties already.

Alwin said it was because dragons grow at a different pace from humans.

"Fermin, I’m going to bring back your mother no matter what. So don’t be too sad anymore. Go back to the palace and wait for us," Ferdinand instructed once the sun rose the next day.

"Father, what will you do?" Fermin asked with a worried expression.

’What does he mean by that? Does he have the same thinking as Alwin?’

Arabella had also perked up. She had been listening to Alwin the whole time.

"Don’t worry about it. Just wait in the palace. I will explain later. And I will be back with your mother."

Fermin’s eyes brightened at the thought his mother would be back.

"Then I will do as Father says. But please don’t do anything dangerous," Fermin said and Ferdinand patted their son’s head.

Arabella was so touched by such a scene that her tears were threatening to flow again but she held back.

Who would have thought Ferdinand could also be affectionate to their son?

"Mother, I look forward to speaking with you again," Fermin hugged her corpse and kissed her on the cheek before flying back to the palace on the island.

Arabella could no longer stop her tears after such a loving act from her son.

"I’m sorry, Arabella. I cannot let you go after all. If I would lose you for all eternity, then I’d rather follow you. But since Fermin would be lonely without us, shall we live together with him here in Estrella? You would love to live with Fermin even if you hate me, right?" Ferdinand said as he lovingly caressed her cheek once their son had gone back to the palace.

"You can hear me, right? I can feel your soul is still around," Ferdinand said and Arabella flinched. She glanced at Alwin who walked close to his lord.
