Chapter 1012: Chapter 1012: Harvest Festival

Transport costs would have been pricey but it’s not a problem for them with their magicians who could simply transport all of it with magic.

With Alwin and the others, they were able to save the cost of transporting all the goods they purchase here. And they even buy the goods here at a much lower cost.

These southern territories are very much valuable to Valeria then since they serve as a main supply source for their storehouses in Riva that provide for any ailing territory in the empire.

A lot of merchants purchase their goods here too once they can no longer purchase from other territories in Valeria when winter comes.

"The people here must be very hardworking. They do the same work all year round," Arabella commented.

"Yes. It’s more peaceful here as well since they could afford their basic necessities at a lower price. And there’s a lot of work they could do for the whole year. The only down time would be when there are storms but it only happens once in a while. The weather is generally friendly here."

It was indeed as Ferdinand said.

In Riva and other parts of Valeria they had visited, it had become colder with the imminent winter. Winter had already begun in some parts as well.

But here, it was still warm like it was spring or summer and the scenery was still filled with greenery even with most crops already harvested.

"Oh, is the event going to start?!" Arabella pointed at the area where people began to gather.

"Yes, it appears so. Would you like to go closer? Or is it alright here?"

Ferdinand asked her preference even though he preferred it here where it was not crowded.

"I think it’s fine here," Arabella replied.

It had become crowded in the streets since the locals were eager to watch and participate in the events.

Arabella was not too fond of staying in crowded places either so she preferred it here.

They had a clear view of everything without getting too close.

"Alright then," Ferdinand said and gestured to Alwin.

Alwin then made seats for them and Ferdinand helped her sit.

Music began to play and people dressed with costumes began dancing and singing.

Arabella recognized that it was a localized version of the myth of creation.

Next presenters came and this time it was a song and dance dedicated to the Dragon God for blessing the lands of Valeria and most especially, their territory for their bountiful harvest.

Various produce from the recent harvest were also presented. There was a contest of having the biggest or smallest harvest of some crops and farmers participated by bringing their produce and comparing it with the others.

They also showcased their local products and Arabella noticed that all products here were related to agriculture.

She thought about the resource maps she had in her office and recalled an important policy in Valeria.

In the southernmost territories of Valeria, mining was forbidden regardless of whether there’s a ton of resources that could be mined here.

Now that she was here, she fully understood why.

People here mostly depend on agriculture related work since they could farm all year round.

The soil is fertile too and almost all vacant land except for residential areas and forests were farmed.

There was no need to mine here where nature blesses them with ample food and resources. The other necessities they could not get from farming, they could simply buy it by reading with other territories.

If even a single mine was made here, it could cause damages to the nearby agricultural areas and could create risks for the locals.

Thus, mining was prohibited to prevent damages and risks to this fertile land that serves as the lifeblood of the people.

In areas like Sibruh where there are parts that cannot be tilled due to the lack of water or rocky structure, it was indeed alright to mine since they were far from residential areas and could not be used for agriculture.

As for a territory like this, it was indeed best to maximize it for agriculture when nature itself had blessed them.

After the presentations, there were games for various ages and the people eagerly participated.

When the crowd finally dispersed to the numerous stalls set up by merchants and locals alike, Ferdinand said, "Would you like to buy souvenirs?"

Arabellla’s eyes immediately brightened, "Yes, please!"

"Then, let’s go down there now that it’s not that crowded," Ferdinand said.

There were still a lot of people but at least there was ample space to walk on without bumping into a lot of people.

Arabella was about to say, ’Let’s go,’ but she realized she did not have any money with her.

"Uhm, I didn’t bring any money with me. Did you?" Arabella peered at Ferdinand.

He was wide-eyed when he realized he didn’t either.

Both of them did not have any money with them since their maids and butlers usually did all the purchases for them.

Even in her past life, Dimo was always the one who held onto her money. She did not have even a single coin with her.

Ferdinand glanced at Alwin and said, "Do you have some stored?"

"Yes, Your Majesty," Alwin replied and two pouches filled with platinum coins.

"Well done," Ferdinand praised.

Alwin felt proud since he was the only one among them who brought money with him.

Even Rendell does not since he gets all his needs from the palace’s supplies.

Alwin had some money with him since he buys materials for his experiments elsewhere if he could not find it in the supplies they already have.

However, there was still a problem.

One platinum coin is equal to 10,000 valers (Valers is the currency in Valeria. Its coin equivalent is explained in Chapter 74).

Ferdinand just said that goods here are cheap so they are unlikely to find something that costs 10,000 valers or 1 platinum coin just for a souvenir.

"Do you have lower coins? Commoners usually only use copper, bronze, and silver coins, right?" Arabella pointed out.

"Ah, right," Ferdinand and Alwin muttered.

If they used platinum coins here, it would be obvious they were from the richest here in Valeria.
