Chapter 1011: Chapter 1011: To The Southernmost Territories

She panicked when she saw the bears and forgot all about the barrier.

Now Alwin was laughing at her.

Arabella could not hear his laughter probably due to another barrier around him, but she could hear his thoughts.

She decided to just ignore him or he might say something else that would tick her off.

Well, at least knowing she would run away quickly in case of danger meant she would survive for long.

There’s no need to throw away her life senselessly after all.

With Ferdinand by her side, Arabella silently observed the bears.

The squirrels had run away when the bears arrived.

"They don’t move in groups?" Arabella inquired.

"Some do, some don’t.

But they usually live alone.

These two seem to be mates so they are together for now.

They will part once the mating season ends.

But when there may be other threats stronger than them, they move in groups since being alone means they become an easy target."

"I see..." Arabella nodded her head as she watched them. "This is still in Valeria, right?"

"Yes. This is in one of the western territories. This forest mostly has evergreen flora so we headed here first because we are sure to spot some bears here. This is their usual drinking spot in this area," Ferdinand explained.

He was quite knowledgeable about this since hunting used to be his pastime.

Raymond said that usually, if Ferdinand was bored and there were no monsters to obliterate nearby, he would go hunting animals instead.

Thus, Ferdinand knew the best hunting spots not only here in Valeria but also in nearby territories outside the Empire.

"Do you hunt them in areas like this where they gather to drink?" Arabella inquired.

"No, they won’t come here to drink again if I hunt them here. I hunt elsewhere away from their drinking spots."

Arabella somehow felt better at his response.

It felt wrong to hunt the bears here where they only come to drink without causing any problems.

She was relieved Ferdinand didn’t hunt one while they had their guards down peacefully drinking some water.

But then again, Ferdinand was not one who liked catching easy prey. Since he was not hunting for survival but just as a pastime, he preferred the hunt to be a bit more difficult than just snagging them in drinking spots where they were sure to gather.

It would no longer be exciting for him if he was sure to get one by going to drinking spots.

A few minutes after the two couple bears left, Arabella spotted another one coming.

"There’s another bear coming!" Arabella said when she saw a huge bear walk in.

When the bear was in front of the pond, she glanced back the way she came and made a sound.

Shortly after... "There are... cubs?! Ferdinand, there are cubs!"

Arabella pointed and squealed like an idiot after seeing three small bear cubs walk in. They looked quite cute unlike their tenacious looking adult bear.

Thankfully, her husband did not kill her excitement.

"Ah, those must be several months old," Ferdinand explained.

"I see," Arabella’s eyes were now focused on the cubs.

They went to drink in the pond like their mother did. But one seemed unruly and kept trying to play with the other cubs while they were drinking.

The mother bear seemed to tell him off since he stopped and drank water too. But once he was done, he began playing around again.

It seemed to be the energetic one among the siblings.

"Oh my!" Arabella gasped as the cub slipped and fell into the water. "Can bears swim?!"

"They usually do. But a cub this young might not be able to swim yet. It depends though," Ferdinand said as he watched the cub.

Arabella nervously watched and waited for the cub to start swimming but it was merely struggling in the water instead.

"It doesn’t seem to know how to swim!"

It was an unruly cub but it’s still young so she felt bad to just watch it drown.

Thankfully, the mother bear got the cub out of the water and seemed to scold it with the sounds it was making.

"They get scolded by their mothers too. Haha," Arabella could not help but chuckle at the sight.

"Yes, it seems so."

They continued watching until all the bears left.

After that they teleported to other locations to see other kinds of bears.

Thus, Arabella saw black, brown, and light brown, and even white colored bears.

They were mostly huge but their cubs were small and adorable and it seems that in every group, there were indeed still unruly ones who needed some scolding to behave.

After their bear sightseeing, they teleported to a territory in the southern part of Valeria to watch a harvest festival.

The festival events were scheduled from afternoon to evening and they have other events related to it for the whole week.

Arabella had never been here before and she could see the difference in prosperity from other areas of Valeria.

Most crops were already harvested, and yet there are still a lot of gardens that looked like they would be harvested soon too.

Meanwhile, in other areas, they had already tilled the soil to plant once again.

She did know that in the southernmost parts of Valeria, they could harvest more than twice a year since they only had two seasons.

"I didn’t know they plant immediately after harvesting," Arabella commented.

"Most of them here do since the soil is fertile. They add organic matter as well to ensure what was absorbed by the former crop was replenished. For other necessities, they add fertilizers. Thus, they can harvest several times a year depending upon their choice of crops," Ferdinand explained.

"I see... No wonder most of the supplies in the storehouses come here from the south," Arabella nodded in understanding.

"Yes, we purchase it here since they usually have a surplus. It’s also cheaper to buy here in the south than in all other territories in Valeria."

Transport costs would have been pricey but it’s not a problem for them with their magicians who could simply transport all of it with magic.
