Chapter 1000: Chapter 1000: A Bit of Rest
Everything smelled delicious, so Arabella eagerly ate once Alfredo had left.
Ferdinand watched her with a smile on his face.
"..."
Arabella blushed when she noticed and stopped eating.
"Stop staring at me and eat. Do you want me to choke?"
"Hahaha. Of course, not. You just looked too cute. I’ll eat now. I’ll eat," Ferdinand said as he chuckled.
Arabella pouted at him and ensured he was eating first before proceeding.
[I’m glad she has an appetite today. She looks like a squirrel stuffing her mouth. Is it because she is so small that at times she looks like a cute little animal?]
"!!!"
Arabella glared at her husband as she stopped chewing.
She swallowed her food first before she said, "Excuse me? You think I look like wild animals now?!"
"No, not at all," Ferdinand quickly said.
"I hear your thoughts, mister."
Arabella gave him another sharp look but did not forget to stuff her mouth with food again.
She was hungry after all.
"I don’t mean it in a bad way. I just mean, you look so adorable, soft, and harmless like small animals," Ferdinand clarified.
"Is that so? Then you look like a bear," Arabella compared him to an animal, too.
"A bear? I’m a dragon, though. Much bigger and stronger," Ferdinand corrected.
"Humph. You still look like a bear to me, though," Arabella did not change her mind and continued eating.
"Then what kind of bear?" Ferdinand asked and took a bite of his stake.
Arabella thought about it and realized she had never seen actual bears. Just illustrations. And what she was comparing him to was the stuffed one.
She said in a low voice, "A huge stuffed, warm, and huggy teddy bear."
One she could hug as much as she wanted (at least when they are together).
"Ah, the ones kids play with? Hahaha... Right. Of course," Ferdinand chuckled loudly.
[I forgot she likely had not seen real bears yet. Why did I expect her to mention a real bear?]
Arabella gripped her fork and spoon and said, "Hey! It’s not my fault I haven’t seen a real one. What kind of crazy person would go into the wild just to see bears for real?"
"Right. I know. I’m sorry," Ferdinand said, but he was still stopping his laughter.
"Dammit! Then why don’t you show them to me? Live ones, that is," Arabella glared.
[She cussed!]
Ferdinand blinked twice and stared at her.
"!!!"
Arabella was wide-eyed when she realized it and covered her mouth.
Her delicate, sweet, and gentle image was gone. It crumbled to pieces right in front of her.
Ferdinand had been teasing her since earlier to make her forget about the books she had flipped through. And due to the flow of their conversation, she got a bit too fired up and cussed like this was her past life.
"Oops. I’m sorry," Arabella said with a flushed face.
Ferdinand settled his face in the palm of one hand as he stared at her playfully and said, "I don’t mind. Even cussing looks cute on you."
"Geez. Will you stop teasing me already? It’s because you keep teasing me," Arabella pointed out.
"Alright. Alright. Then, why don’t you take a break tomorrow? I’ll take you somewhere to see real bears," Ferdinand said, still with a playful smile.
"No way. They must look scary anyway. I might die from a single attack," Arabella said.
She recalled hearing about villagers and even hunters dying from bears.
"What am I for then? I won’t allow any of them to get near you. And we’ll watch them from afar," Ferdinand assured her.
"But aren’t you busy? I think my schedule for tomorrow is full too. Attending the morning Court Sessions and going to Sibruh again and doing paperwork after," Arabella pointed out.
"You should take a bit of rest. Even your assistant and the researchers took a break for two days after the discovery of the treatment. You also contributed too for finding such a capable assistant. You deserve a break as well," Ferdinand explained.
"I didn’t do anything, though. He found the results on his own. That’s simply how capable he is."
Arabella did not want to take credit for Ivan’s hard work.
"Alright, then it’s your reward for hiring a capable assistant that greatly helped the empire in time of need, and for all your hard work the past few days. You helped catch spies and even rebels and their true leader. You also turned Sibruh into a more peaceful place in a matter of days, instead of being the most chaotic territory among the lockdown areas. You even made a lot of projects to help all the locked-down territories. All these are great feats that deserve rewards and a break," Ferdinand was intent on convincing her to rest.
Arabella only realized her and her assistants’ achievements when Ferdinand identified all of them.
’Now that I think about it, all of them did work quickly and efficiently. They deserve a break too.’
But she knew they would reject a break at this stage of the project. Thus, she noted to tell them to ask to inform her if they needed a break.
Her assistants wanted to catch up with Ivan, so they were not interested in breaks in the meantime.
’What do I have to do in Sibruh tomorrow?’
Arabella thought about her schedule, and there was nothing major she needed to do in Sibruh tomorrow.
Almost all of her major tasks were done over the past few days, and today. She had no speeches either. Thus, she could indeed schedule a break tomorrow.
"Alright. I’ll take a break tomorrow. I won’t head to Sibruh. It should also help the Marquess and his family have a breather after all the stress they went through today. But I should do the work I have here," Arabella concluded.
"Why are you worrying about other people first instead of yourself? That’s their work, and they should be grateful we did it for them since they could not do it. I’ll attend the Court Sessions so you don’t have to. The paperwork can wait. You should sleep well tonight till late morning," Ferdinand said.
He wanted her to take a break, probably because of what happened today in Sibruh.
