Reborn as a Devouring Dragon with a System
Chapter 156: The Battle (7)

Chapter 156: The Battle (7)

The Death Spirit was stunned to find itself in a soul space untouched by the flood of blood.

It remembered what the voice had told it—

It only needed his cooperation and energy.

Of course, the Death Spirit hadn’t trusted so easily.

It had asked how much of its power would be required—

But the voice had simply answered:

It didn’t know.

What finally convinced him...

Was when the voice said it was related to saving Drakion.

He had no choice but to agree—

Because if Drakion fell into dire straits,

So would he.

But what truly surprised him was the sudden appearance of another person—

Drax.

There was some familiarity there.

And that familiarity was enough to make the Death Spirit calm.

Ding!

[Are you both ready?]

Drax nodded.

And when the Death Spirit saw this,

He too gave a solemn nod.

Ding!

[Beginning Partial Summoning of the Progenitor Dragon from the Ancient Past.]

In the next breath, the Death Spirit witnessed an overwhelming light surge—

A colossal rune appeared, stretching across the entire space.

It bore nine dragon-shaped designs, each one brimming with an aura so immense,

It sent chills spiraling down his very soul.

He stared at the dragons etched into the rune—

But even as he looked at them,

He couldn’t remember who or what they were.

That realization alone made his soul tremble.

What kind of creatures were these?

Then—

They moved to the center of the rune.

Suddenly, his energy—his Originat—was being sucked at a terrifying pace.

He staggered from the drain, eyes wide with disbelief.

Each dragon design began to glow, and from them surged a vast, ancient presence—

One that made him want to kneel.

Terror.

Awe.

Domination.

Something enormous and primeval was stirring.

But just as the moment of summoning reached its crescendo—

The rune dimmed...

And the designs disappeared.

Ding!

[It is detected that there isn’t enough energy to summon the Progenitor Dragons from the past.]

Ding!

[Searching for feasible means... Feasible means found, but they would greatly affect the Host.]

The Death Spirit was shaken.

To think that even draining him nearly dry hadn’t been enough—

Now he truly understood how terrifying the beings they were trying to summon were.

But before he could dwell too long—

He felt it.

A sudden, crashing wave of power.

Domineering. Ancient. Condescending.

And it was close.

He turned—

And saw Drakion.

No...

What he saw wasn’t merely Drakion.

From him surged an infinite aura, one identical to the dragons he had just seen etched into the runes.

His shock deepened.

He glanced at Drax—

And what he saw made his breath catch.

Gone was the playful, carefree presence.

In its place stood a being emanating the aura of a king,

A leader,

A Primordial Father.

Drax’s gaze shifted to where the rune had once flared—

Then turned again,

As if peering through time and space...

The Death Spirit felt it too.

It was as though Drax was watching the battle Drakion was currently engaged in.

"It happened sooner than expected,"

Drax said,

His voice echoing through the depths of primordial time.

"System, you can proceed with the summoning. I will take care of the energy required," Drax said, his voice ringing with unshakable dominion.

Ding!

[Feasible method found... Source of energy required for summoning has been located.]

Before the Death Spirit could comprehend what was happening, the runes reappeared, flaring with radiant brilliance.

The dragon designs within them began to shine with an intensity that pierced the void.

Drax himself glowed like a celestial forge—

Originat pouring out of him, surging into the runes.

The dragon designs stirred.

They moved as if they were alive, each line and scale pulsating with ancient vitality.

The flow of Originat surged—

And then,

Something descended.

The Death Spirit turned—

And what he saw was not form, but presence.

Primal. Progenitor. Eternal.

He could only glimpse their blurry figures, but the power they radiated shook his very soul.

Nine dragons.

Blurry, indistinct,

Yet unmistakably transcendent—

As though they had surpassed both world and cosmos.

Ding!

[Partial Summoning of the Progenitor Dragons... successful.]

Suddenly, he heard them—

A chorus of sighs...

Low and deep, filled with ancient weariness.

It was clear—

They had seen what was happening beyond this realm.

"It seems... it happened. And far too early,"

One of the Progenitor Dragons said, voice rumbling like forgotten thunder.

"All I did was tie his fate with that of the Little Five.

Who would have expected events to accelerate so quickly at this moment?"

Another Progenitor Dragon harrumphed with dissatisfaction.

What shook the Death Spirit was that he could not distinguish their voices.

Not male,

Not female,

Perhaps... both.

Or neither.

Voices forged from eternity itself.

Suddenly, one of the Progenitor Dragons turned toward Drax.

There was something in its bearing—

A weight of reverence from the others.

If Drakion had been present,

He would have known immediately—

This was the Devouring Dragon God.

"Drax, how is he doing?"

The Devouring Dragon God asked, voice smooth but charged with cosmic power.

"From the memories...

He’s doing better than expected," Drax replied, his tone still regal.

"We all knew he would face this.

But against the enemies ahead...

He’s not yet ready."

He paused.

"But we underestimated something...

The pain he has endured—

The torment woven into his blood."

At that, the others sighed again—

Deep. Resonant. Heavy with understanding.

"We’ll have to wait...

But for now, time is bleeding fast,"

The Devouring Dragon God said, his voice tinged with urgency.

"We must handle the killing intent,

Or he will become nothing more than a mindless blade—

A killing machine."

The Progenitor Dragons nodded, and began to move.

Then—

In a sudden burst of brilliance—

The Death Spirit saw Drax shift.

He turned into a beam of concentrated light

And merged into one of the Progenitor Dragons.

The act sent a surge of cosmic shock through the space.

And the next moment—

A flare of multicolored light erupted across the soul realm,

Radiating with the breath of ancient dragons.
