Chapter 147: Lifetimes of Pain, Suffering and Sorrow (8)
"Drakion, it’s been a month and we haven’t gone on a single date," Lyla muttered as she pouted, comfortably seated on Daniel’s lap, her fingers playing with the buttons on his shirt.
"Oh, really?" Daniel smiled at her, his voice laced with warmth.
It had been three months since their relationship began—and if Daniel could describe it in one word, it would be epic. He had never felt such peace, such calm... such fulfillment.
Looking at the smile dancing on her face was like watching light chase away darkness in his once-lonely world. Just cuddling her felt like achieving every dream he ever had.
Watching her sleepy eyes and soft breathing, he wondered how he had ever gone through life without such a heavenly presence.
To Daniel, Lyla was more than just a lover—
She was his heaven,
His pillar,
His shadow and light.
He couldn’t wait to marry her.
He wanted to place her in his home and build forever around her.
He never believed love could feel like this—so blind, yet so vividly overwhelming.
It clouded the world around him until she was the only thing he saw.
But still, there were times when he asked about her parents—and every time, she brushed the topic off.
He respected that.
He trusted there was a reason, and he would wait patiently for the right moment when she would speak.
"Yes, of course! Who doesn’t go on a date with her boyfriend after a whole month?" Lyla huffed, cheeks puffed with playful annoyance.
"Okay, okay," Daniel chuckled, "how about we go this weekend?"
Lyla’s eyes sparkled with delight as she jumped in excitement, her arms wrapping around him in joy. She planted a soft peck on his lips, but Daniel—greedy for more—leaned forward, deepening the kiss.
What began as a peck quickly transformed into a passionate entanglement of lips.
And like a breath exhaled into the wind—the weekend came in a blink.
Daniel stood in front of the mirror, fixing his collar. Dressed in a crisp white shirt tucked into tailored black trousers, his dark hair was neatly combed, and a silver watch adorned his right wrist. A spray of subtle cologne lingered in the air.
He stepped out and walked toward the room Lyla had locked herself in.
"Lyla, aren’t you done? Time is almost up," Daniel called, knocking on the door.
"I’m coming! I’m almost done!" her voice rang from within.
Daniel shook his head, lips twitching in amusement.
She had started dressing before him... and somehow, he’d finished first.
Meanwhile, chaos reigned in the room.
Lyla stood in the middle of scattered clothes and open drawers, spinning in frantic circles.
"What am I supposed to wear like this? This is our first date—I can’t just pick anything!" she cried, trying on outfit after outfit, discarding each one in frustration.
If only Daniel had known the reason for her delay, he would’ve laughed softly and pulled her into his arms.
Because to him—
No matter what she wore,
No matter what color or style,
She was already perfect.
Finally, after over fifteen minutes, the door creaked open—and Daniel stood still.
He forgot how to breathe.
Lyla stood before him, dressed in a pure white gown that flowed gently to her legs, a golden heart-shaped necklace glowing on her chest. She wore creamy heels that made her appear ethereal, otherworldly.
Daniel was entranced.
To him, it felt like an angel had descended into his room.
No one else should see her today.
Only he should be allowed to gaze upon her.
Lyla noticed his heated stare and blushed deeply, her voice soft, "Drakion... how do I look?"
"You look like an angel," Daniel whispered without thinking, unable to tear his gaze away.
His words made her heart flutter violently in her chest, her fingers tightening at her sides.
Looking at Daniel now—how clean, how handsome, how darkly regal—Lyla felt like he was a demon sent to claim her heart, and she was helpless to resist.
Their eyes remained locked for over five minutes, saying more than words ever could...
Until suddenly—
BEEP!
The alarm blared, breaking the moment.
A sharp, blaring reminder—
That they had a date to go on.
Daniel had gone that very day they discussed, to book a restaurant for their date. He made certain they would be the only ones to use it—complete privacy.
But that wasn’t all.
He had planned something else too...
Something he would reveal only when the moment was right.
Daniel owned his own car—a sleek, black Toyota Hilux. He had poured a fortune into it, polishing every curve to perfection.
Lyla stepped into the vehicle beside him, and together, they drove off into the Lagos sunset.
Yet, the restaurant was not their first destination.
Their journey began with adventure.
First stop—the beach.
The sea breeze kissed their faces as they walked hand in hand across the golden sands.
The sound of waves was drowned out by the silent stares they attracted.
Every gaze was locked on Lyla.
She was breathtaking.
Men—both bold and foolish—dared to approach her even as she stood beside Daniel.
They made their attempts, as if he wasn’t even there, despite clearly seeing they were lovers.
There were moments when Daniel’s fists itched,
moments when his blood boiled and reason slipped away.
But Lyla...
Lyla always placed a calming hand on his chest, a soft look in her eyes.
She refused to let their perfect date be tainted by petty provocations.
And with a smile, she’d always reply—
"I have a boyfriend."
Then she’d take Daniel’s hand, pull him close, and kiss him right in front of them.
Every time, Daniel felt like a king.
His heart thumped, pride bloomed, and his head swelled with joy.
After a day of laughter and shared memories, after the sun dipped low behind the Lagos skyline, they made their way to the restaurant for the final Chapter of the day’s journey.
Evening fell.
The lights of the restaurant shimmered softly against the glass walls, the reserved table waiting for them like destiny.
Daniel pulled out her seat; Lyla sat down, glowing with happiness.
She had never felt this alive.
Never so content.
The food arrived. Steam danced off the plates, and the aroma was enough to make the stars jealous.
Lyla took a bite—smiling, relishing—when suddenly—
CRUNCH!
Her teeth met something hard.
She froze.
Her fingers reached for her lips, carefully pulling out the object—
And what she saw made her breath hitch—
Her heart skipped—
A wave of disbelief washed over her face as she stared at the small item in her palm...
She was relishing the moment—
Yet, what she had found sent a fresh shock rippling through her very soul.
