Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 98: Jack
Chapter 98: Jack
As a result, Jack had approached her more than once. However, Anna had no way to help him, and only Claire could treat him. Anna was extremely annoyed but forced a smile. "Sister Claire, what kind of medicine should Uncle Jack take now?"
Claire looked at Anna’s flattering smile and sneered inwardly. But when she thought of Jack, she became alert. She hadn’t forgotten that Jack had teamed up with Cole to deal with Alex.
Upon thinking this, Claire’s smile faded, and she asked seriously, "Do you still have contact with Jack?"
Anna’s face turned pale, and she hurriedly denied, "How could that be possible? Uncle Jack has been missing for a long time."
"Oh? Is that so?" Claire raised her eyebrows, thoughtfully saying, "I remember his illness was very tricky at the time. My prescription could only slowly alleviate his symptoms."
"However, if he doesn’t receive long-term treatment, I’m afraid his time is running out."
At this point, Claire paused and looked at Anna, saying, "If you still have contact with him, remember to tell me. It’s been years, and I need to diagnose him again in person."
Anna’s heart began to race, but she tried to remain calm. "How could I possibly know where Uncle Jack is? But if I hear anything, I’ll tell you immediately!"
Seeing her reaction, Claire’s eyes flashed with disdain, and she said lightly, "Okay, if you contact him, just call me."
After saying this, Claire left, leaving a stunned Anna behind. After a moment, Anna regained her composure and quickly turned to leave, panic rising within her. Claire might have discovered her connection with Jack, and that wasn’t good for her.
However, as Anna turned around, she bumped into a tall figure. "Ah! It hurts!" she cried out in pain, glaring angrily. "Who’s so blind they can’t watch where they’re going?"
As she looked up to see who it was, Anna wished she could bite her tongue.
"Alex..." she stammered. "How did you end up here?"
Upon hearing Alex’s name, Claire, who had been walking away, froze and turned back in disbelief.
Alex’s expression turned sour as he looked down at Anna, whose face was now flushed, and asked, "Shouldn’t I be the one asking that question? What are you doing here?"
Although Alex had lost his memory, he and Anna had been childhood friends, and many of his memories were from before Anna went abroad. He had long forgotten the incident where Anna and Jack had hurt him, and he didn’t even remember that he had married Claire. Therefore, subconsciously, he still saw Anna as his fiancée.
"Oh, nothing much. I’ve been feeling a bit unwell lately, so I came to see if there were any suitable medicines," Anna said, her face stiff as she suppressed her panic. She glanced in Claire’s direction, afraid she might say something she shouldn’t.
"You’re not feeling well? Have you seen a doctor?" Alex furrowed his brows and asked in a harsh tone, showing concern.
Anna’s heart was pounding as she quickly shook her head.
"If you haven’t seen a doctor, how can you just buy medicine randomly? What if something goes wrong?" Alex frowned and reproached, causing Anna to feel excited at the rare opportunity to communicate with him. However, Claire’s presence made her hesitant to stay for long.
"I’ll go see a doctor first and come back for the medicine," Anna said before quickly leaving the dispensary.
Watching the interaction between the two, Claire felt a sourness in her heart that she couldn’t put into words. She turned to leave but was stopped by Alex.
"Are you the new nurse here?" he asked. "Why haven’t I seen you before?"
Looking at Claire’s back, Alex felt a strong desire to talk to her. When she stopped, he approached her, wanting to see her face. However, she took two steps to the side, as if rejecting him.
Alex’s face darkened, but he suppressed his emotions and said, "I’m here to pick up my medicine. The previous head nurse should have told you, right?"
Claire was surprised and turned back to ask, "Are you sick? Where does it hurt?"
In the blink of an eye, Alex’s face appeared before her. She saw the black halo in his eyes, the lifeless pupils, and his lips turning purple.
Claire’s pretty face changed slightly. She instinctively reached out and pressed her hand against Alex’s pulse on his chest. Alex was caught off guard and allowed Claire to touch him.
After carefully examining it for a few seconds, Claire released her hand and said, "You’ll have trouble sleeping tonight? This won’t do. I’ll prescribe some sedatives for you."
Claire turned around and walked into the inner room, preparing to get the medicine. For some reason, seeing him in such a haggard state made Claire feel a bit sad.
"Do you see a doctor? Why don’t you work as a doctor?" Alex’s voice sounded with a gentleness that he himself hadn’t noticed.
When she touched his pulse just now, Alex’s heart rate suddenly increased. The faint fragrance coming from her made him feel at ease. Claire’s movements halted as she turned to face Alex, who had a calm expression on his face.
After hesitating for a moment, she said, "No, it was my own choice." Pausing for a moment, she continued, "I am not skilled in medicine and do not have the ability to diagnose and treat patients. What you said earlier was just a suggestion," she added. "Mr. Miller, please don’t take it to heart."
"What about the medicine?" Alex’s tone carried a hint of urgency as he asked.
"What medicine?" Claire murmured.
"Didn’t you just say you would prescribe medicine for me?" Alex’s eyes held a hint of expectation as he looked straight at her. "Go get it for me."
Looking at him, Claire’s eyes avoided his gaze as she said, "I just said it casually earlier. There are many doctors in this clinic who are better than me. Mr. Miller, you should..."
"Get it for me," Alex interrupted, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
Claire pursed her lips and looked up at him, only to see a hint of gloominess in his expression that made her heart skip a beat. Seeing his resolute attitude, Claire remained silent for a moment before saying, "Wait here for a moment. I’ll go get it for you."
"Okay," Alex nodded, his gaze following her as she left the room until she disappeared from sight.
As Claire walked out of the room, she took a deep breath. She didn’t know how to face him, who had lost his memory, so she could only avoid him for now.
Just as she turned to leave, a familiar figure appeared at the dispensary. Louis walked up to Alex and looked in the direction he was staring at, saying, "Mr. Miller, it’s time for the meeting."
"What are you doing here?" Alex turned his attention back and looked in the direction where Claire had left.
"Louis, find out who that girl was just now," Alex said.
Upon hearing this, Louis was stunned and didn’t respond for a while.
"Did you hear me?" Alex asked impatiently.
"Uh... yes, I heard you," Louis muttered.
---
Louis couldn’t help but walk towards the inner room, wanting to see who this woman was that had such charm to move Alex’s heart. He reached out his hand and was about to open the door of the inner room.
But the door opened from the inside, and Claire walked out with medicine in her hand.
Upon seeing Claire, Louis was struck as if by lightning and stood frozen in place. Claire also looked up and blinked in surprise at the familiar face of Louis.
After a moment, she said, "Long time no see."
This sentence brought Louis back to his senses, but soon another thought came to his mind: Alex must have fallen for this woman!
Louis’s lips moved, then he turned and pointed to the direction outside the door, saying, "Did he see you just now?"
Claire nodded and handed him the medicine, saying, "Take this medicine to him. It will help with his insomnia."
"Besides, he has forgotten about me, so there’s no need to remind him again."
Upon hearing this, Louis’s hand holding the medicine paused and he asked, "Claire, do you know...?"
"I don’t want to know," Claire interrupted sharply. "He can’t remember me, Louis."
She looked at him with a focused gaze and said, "Consider it a favor to me."
Louis struggled with his thoughts for a while before saying, "I don’t know what you’re planning, but I can promise you for now that I won’t reveal your identity to him."
Claire breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, "Thank you, Brother Louis."
Louis raised his eyebrows at her words. But Claire did not chat with him any longer. She took the prescription and left.
Louis stood still, watching Claire leave. After a long time, he sighed, shook his head, and closed the door to the dispensary.
Louis frowned with a look of worry and walked towards the conference room. By the time he arrived, the meeting had already started, and Alex was giving a speech at the front.
Louis realized that he was late.
