Chapter 239 - 14: Royal Capital Auction House
Chapter 239: Chapter 14: Royal Capital Auction House
"The Royal Capital Auction House, officially known as the Gloria Auction House, stands alongside the Saint Messia Empire’s Sacred Chant Auction House and the Yiter Kingdom Federation’s Loran Auction House as one of the three top auction houses on the continent.
Each auction they host always concludes with a total transaction amount not less than one hundred thousand Gold Coins. They have auctioned items such as [Magnefique scepter], [Fallen Giant Dragon], [New Moon Crown], among other Ninth Rank Mysterious Objects."
"Over two thousand years ago, when the auction house was newly established, the owner had the honor of inviting the Great Emperor to attend the inaugural event, and took the opportunity to openly rename the auction house after him.
And Gloria the Great did not express any objections."
"For thousands of years, even though the Emperor has changed to Gloria III, and even as the layout of the Royal Capital has changed time and again, with countless powers rising and then declining, this auction house has always stood strong."
"Up to now, the Gloria Auction House has developed into the highest-ranking auction house in the entire Royal Capital, and even across the entire Gloria Empire, second to none."
As Anvis explained to Fiona, their carriage slowly entered the spacious parking area in front of the auction house.
Stepping down from the carriage, Anvis extended his right hand with gentlemanly grace, aiding Fiona as she disembarked.
This extraordinary entrance immediately attracted the attention of some nearby players.
"Hello, may I help you with anything?"
"At your service, lovely lady!"
"..."
The ’enthusiasm’ of the players startled the little girl, who instinctively grabbed Anvis’s arm, hiding behind the youth as her pale golden hair bristled in caution, and Kate in her arms also began to fluff up.
The family guards accompanying them hastily extended a force field, blocking the seven or eight players who had ’surged’ towards them at a certain distance.
They had a difficult task, as no one could guarantee that among these outsiders, none harbored intentions of harming their protectee.
Anvis, having no other choice, quickly led the girl towards the grand doors of the auction house, flanked by two giant dragons.
After showing their invitation at the entrance, the two were respectfully welcomed inside and personally received by the head of hospitality, who ushered them into a top-level VIP box.
This auction was not the annual [Seya] level auction meeting, and there were no openly special auction items, so not many high-ranking nobles were in attendance.
Had Anvis not retained related memories, he would have been equally disinterested in the ordinary auction items.
Halfway through, Anvis suddenly became aware of a certain situation.
Therefore, he temporarily instructed the head of hospitality to stop, and instead led Fiona and the somewhat perplexed chief toward a corridor behind the auction house.
Then, from a side louvered window, a small metal dart suddenly flew in through the slats.
In the bewildered gaze of the chief, a miniature Array glowed, and with a flash of light, the figure of an outsider appeared abruptly.
.....
Due to the players’ arrival half a year ago, the auction house was forced to deploy several Fifth Rank guards at the door, only allowing Second Rank and above Professionals to enter.
To prevent a bunch of ludicrous players from causing trouble inside and disturbing other genuine guests.
Upon discovering that entering the auction house had a ’Level restriction,’ players began trying all sorts of bizarre methods to bypass the guards and sneak in, persistently taking delight in this.
Finding a weak point in the defense was one of the approaches.
For example, at this moment, the Last Dragon Descendant simply teleported inside using a dart engraved with a short-range Teleportation Spell.
Perhaps his Level was already sufficient, but players do not take the ordinary path—that is their creed!
Picking up the dart that had fallen to the ground with a flourish, the Elf had just turned around.
Three NPCs were thoughtfully looking at him from behind.
Their gazes met, and the Last Dragon Descendant’s action of picking up the dart suddenly stiffened; he didn’t know what to do.
He had not noticed anyone approaching before!
"Uh... Respected Lord Anvis, is there anything you need help with?"
Following a moment of silence, the elf player gave an awkward smile.
Meanwhile, under Anvis’s gaze, he quickly touched the game panel with his mind, summoning a silver-gray pigeon, larger than a regular message pigeon, and sent out a message.
"Change of plans, hold off on the action!"
That was a high-level Message Pigeon, moving directly across space with just a few seconds of delay, unable to enter or exit special maps.
It sells for thirty-two dollars and forty cents for a month in the System Mall, available in three color schemes, and if you add ten more dollars, you can purchase a dye pack yourself. Buying a six-month subscription comes with a 20% discount and there are holiday sales too.
"Do you know who I am?"
Anvis revealed an amused smile; by rights, he should ’not recognize’ the current Last Dragon Descendant.
"Of course! You are Lord Anvis Olivendi! The Eternal Crystal Bird, a synonym for glory and wealth, the Light of Hope that illuminates the whole world...
Your wisdom is unrivaled, your appearance peerless in beauty, as a creature enveloped in your supreme radiance, I have long admired you!"
The elf hesitated for a moment, and then quickly remembered the public beta character wipe, promptly plastering on a smile and lavishing praise without regard for cost.
The welcoming host standing nearby listened in amazement, his hand that was about to be raised froze in place, unsure of how to deal with him.
"Big brother... is he really that amazing?"
Fiona was also startled by the descriptions given to the Last Dragon Descendant and couldn’t help but look at Anvis with admiration shining in her lake-blue eyes.
"...Alright, foreigner, your sincerity has moved me."
Anvis sighed, even though the way the Last Dragon Descendant was reunited with him was a bit embarrassing, he liked what he heard.
The Last Dragon Descendant was just this good, honest to the core.
"You remind me of a former follower, who was also from the Elf Clan just like you. Despite having some unique quirks, he was loyal enough and not lacking in ability."
"Regrettably, he died while sneaking into a noble lady’s room to steal her personal garments and in his overexcitement, accidentally triggered the defensive magic array outside the window."
Speaking of this, Anvis shook his head with regret, seemingly lamenting the fate of ’a certain follower’.
Why did I die in such an embarrassing way?
The Last Dragon Descendant’s eyelids twitched as he listened, but it was not his place to say anything.
"Foreigner, you have once again reminded me of that unfortunate soul. Here’s what we’ll do—I give you an opportunity; do you wish to become my follower?"
Anvis looked towards the elf, revealing his smile again.
[System Notice: Anvis has invited you to become his follower, do you accept?]
[Yes],[No]
"Ready to serve you at any time, Respected Lord Anvis!"
Seeing the system notice refreshed on the panel again, the Last Dragon Descendant was ecstatic.
"Very well, then, to commemorate my former elf follower, you shall be called Rivers."
Anvis’s lips slightly curled, and a new line of prompt once again scrolled across the elf’s panel.
[System Notice: Anvis has renamed you to [Rivers]]
"By the way, my name is..."
Before he could finish stating the name he had thought of for his character, looking at the panel as the name reverted back to Rivers, the elf fell into contemplation.
